Arrival Story: One of our older cats had died leaving the other alone. I knew I didn't want another purebred cat since our older cats had had health issues connected to their breeding, so we went to a rescue organization called Cat City run by PAWS and saw this tiny black kitten. She was the runt. When I picked her up, she looked right into my eyes and patted at my face, so of course she came home with us. Our older cat tolerated her, but wasn't thrilled. What we didn't know was the older cat was already getting kidney failure. She died a couple of months after we got Raven. Then we started the long search for a friend for Raven. Raven was very lonely while we were at work. We'd come home to find her stuffed dog at her food bowl and sometimes at her water bowl in another room. This stuffed dog was almost as big as Raven. At night she'd haul him up the stairs somehow and bring him to our bedroom. She clearly needed a friend.
Bio: Raven is the most focused, patient cat I've ever known. As a kitten she loved shiny things. Besides taking my earrings, she'd also stick her head in the penny jar, pick up a penny, and drop it off the end of the bookcase. We'd find a small pile of pennies there. I think being the runt made her really determined--she doesn't let anything get in her way. She also has a devilish sense of humor. She loves startling me or her kitty sister, Sage. You can see her delight when she gets one of us to jump. Raven loves to play fetch with crumpled paper balls. She runs to get them and comes flying back to drop it at my feet. If I "fly" her around the house, she'll catch moths and flies. She also loves to play chase and hide & seek with me around the house. Raven taught the game to Sage, who is much better at the hiding and chasing than I am. Raven sometimes gets irritated by Sage, but when it gets cold Raven lets her snuggle which is all Sage really wants. Raven can be very sweet--she likes to sit at the computer and tilt her head with dreamy eyes, asking me to pet her. Raven has just recently decided our dog Saffron might be fun after all. She has started charging to the edge of the bed at Saffron to get a reaction and then skittering back in a modified game of Boo!. She has 8 lives left because as a kitten she almost died from pneumonia. The vet wasn't sure we'd want to spend the money to treat her, since she was just a kitten and we hadn't had her long, but she was already part of the family so of course we did. They even let us visit her in the hospital. Raven has an odd sense of taste--she loves peanutbutter, gingersnaps, curry, rosemary, lavender, and crabapple blossoms. She is a wickedly smart cat and we're glad she doesn't have opposable thumbs. Otherwise she could very well be the boss of us and our house would be full of booby traps to make her cackle when we shriek. She's a wonderful cat and I can't imagine our family without her.
Lives Remaining: 8 of 9

The rules: Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Cats who are tagged need to write on their own blog about the seven things and the rules. You need to choose seven cats to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment that they have been tagged and to read your blog.
1. Raven acts crabby, but is the goofiest love-bug. She loves to be petted, but mainly when no one else is around.
2. She ate a clove of roasted garlic as a small kitten. We realized that's where the garlic went because she had very strong garlic breath.
3. Raven still occasionally carries her red dog(the one in the pics) around. Again, only when no one is looking.
4. She sneaks sniffs of Saffron the dog when Saffron isn't looking.
5. Raven will run around chasing the laser pointer until she pants like a dog if we let her. We didn't realize she was panting when it happened--I'd never seen a cat do that.
6. She thinks the kitty windowbox I made is just hers. She doesn't like to share.
7. Raven is such a wonderful, clever cat and we feel so lucky to have found her. She's the reason I will only ever adopt rescued cats. Please consider adopting!
It has finally warmed up enough that I can leave the window open for Raven and Sage to use their window box. They are so happy! Right now, Raven is stretched out the full length sunning her tummy. And watching the birds. I may need to build another so Sage gets equal access. (You can see a picture of the box on Sage's page.)
