I was tagged by the darling girl of all of us, Miranda, to play Family Tag. Thanks, Miranda, hope you're not disappointed by a short entry!! p.s. All of us who first heard your story, around New Year's, are so happy you found the right momma, and that you're doing SO well!!!
As for my family, it's just me 'n' Mom. She works with the animal clinic a block away. She is a bereavement assistant, so she is called in whenever a cat has to be put down. She is alerted by the staff when a kitty reaches the point where the vet will discuss it with the family and when the decision is made, the family goes to the Peace Room. Mommy meets them there, and they will be led through the whole thing. She explains the procedure in whatever level of detail they ask for. She asks for stories about the kitty. She prays if they want it, but basically follows their lead, and they see no other employees and are not presented with any bills at that time. The Peace Room has anything a kitty could want in it. Mom pushes a button on the phone when they are ready to have the kitty brought in, and another when they are ready for the vet.
She cries every time, but wouldn't have it any other way, because losing a kitty is something to cry about. She stays until the owner is okay to drive or someone else comes for them.
Right now the clinic is cooperating with the animal hospital on the other side of town to make this service available there, so Mom is training their employees.
In order to keep her certifications, she goes in for some surgeries and other procedures to stay on top of things. I like to smell other kitties when she gets back, but I think I'd rather NOT have one full-time!!
Love to all, Tink

AWWW Come on Tink!!! Don't yous wants a kitten???
We'd read little pieces of this here and there, but this makes it all clearer. What a wonderful service your mom does! The Mama could have used you there when they had to put their little dog down some years back. Even though they like the vet and even HE had tears in his eyes when it came time, it was such a wretched experience. She's not sure she'd want to go through it again.
Blizzard - I think maybe you've got ulterior motives here! MOL
HUH??? Who, little ole mees???? Why would yous say dat??? Just want dem to have homes...dats all!!! ( And get things back to normal around here!!!! PAWLEASE!!!)
Tink, Thank you so much for sharing your story, Mom had tears in her eyes just reading about what your Mom does. How comforting that must be to families. When Mom's first cat went to the bridge one of the nurses from the office stayed with her and to this day she is still Mom's favorite staff member at our vet. We so appreciate what your Mom does! Your are very lucky to have a Mom with so much love to give! Purrs, Skylar

Wow, Tink, your Mom sounds like one special lady. Bless her heart for doing that job, it must be heartbreaking but at the same time satisfying to be able to bring comfort to other pet parents when their fur babies have to leave them. Give your Mom a big hug from all of us!
Your mom has such a beautiful calling - can't call some that special a job! Beautiful mom and you such a beautiful kitty. My mom is what they call and disaster chaplain for humanz mostly. She thinkz your mom is totally awesome!
I cannot imagine being the only kitty - no tails to chase! No food to steal.
Mom could have used your sweet Mom a few times in her life. Especially with Blackie. God Bless your Mom for doing such hard job. I couldn't imagine having to wake up in the morning knowing your going to go to work to see poor kitties put down and cry. That's got to be tough.
Tink, I understand wanting your Mom to yourself but then again it is fun watching Zach get mad at Diamond.
Oh, your mom is amazing Tink! My mom could never do such work. Your mom is a true blessing - thank you for giving such comfort to so many.
