Arrival Story: I had been thinking of getting a cat from a shelter for a few months. I had already visited the shelter once, but came back a second day and Tajar (then called Mister) was meowing at me from his cage. I asked to take him out to see him and found out how cool a cat he was. He stayed near me the whole time and continued to rub against me. I couldn't take him home that day, but came back for him a few days later.
As soon as Tajar was home, he was very affectionate and often followed me around the apartment. I learned a few days later that he had an infection from his neuter surgery (a week before I took him home) and I had to take him back to the shelter for tests and to be watched for a few days. I missed him a lot while he was gone. He came home and I do not know how I ever lived without him. He is an awesome mixture of affectionate and playful.

Bio: I am named after a character from a camp story named Tajar. Tajar is something like a tiger, something like a jaguar, and something like a badger and he loves to swing by his tail through the trees. Tajar is pronounced like "badger" except with a "t" at the beginning. I was named this after my mom learned that I loved to jump.

Cat-Mama:
I am new to owning a cat and have learned that it seems a lot like having a child. I feel guilty for leaving Tajar alone, am constantly finding the things he does cute, and love to gush about him to my friends. The latter is one reason I am writing this entry (and maybe more). I gush so much to my friends about Tajar, that I wonder if they are getting tired of it. I thought it might be a good idea to write diary entries here instead of telling them everytime he does something cute.
I was out of town for a week and a half and missed Tajar a lot. I sent him to a cat-boarders that placed him in a home for that week because I was worried about him being in the apartment alone with company only 20 minutes a day since he is such a people-cat. I was so excited to go pick him up yesterday! When I did, the woman said that he was one of the sweetest, best-behaved cats she had ever cat-sat for and that they almost did not want to give him back (jokingly of course.....they weren't going to steal Tajar). I was kind of proud to have such a likeable cat.
I felt like choosing a cat from a shelter was such a gamble. It was my first cat so I was unsure what to look for and just chose the cat that I liked the best from the shelter. Besides all the medical issues Tajar had at first, I think I made a good choice. He is so sweet but also playful and kittenish at times. As of yet, he has never acted-out towards me, only giving me warning bites or moving away when he needs space. He is very vocal and loves to follow me around even though I live in a small studio apartment where it isn't hard to see me no matter where I am. Tajar needed me and I think I needed him as well.
