Arrival Story:
Snooken's mother (Sammy) adopted us. Soon after we thought her stomach seemed to be growing in size. Soon after that our suspicions became true when we heard a kitten crying outside our bedroom window one day. We ran out and discovered Snooken. Her mother did not know she could trust us yet so when she heard us there she jumped out from inside the gas meter cover where she was housing her kittens and pulled Snooken back inside. When we got a flashlight, we discovered there was another all black kitten inside. We think the mother was trying to move the kittens and we just interrupted her. Within weeks she did move the kittens further into the back yard, into a wood pile. We would visit the kittens looking in on them with the flashlight. In time, the kittens would recognize our voice and come to the opening of the woodpile where we could pull them out and look at them. They were about the size of a big rat. Their mother was gaining trust in us but maybe not completely, as she would continue to move them to a nearby neighbors house. Eventually she trusted us and would let us take them into the patio, with her supervision, until it was time to go to sleep in the woodpile. Snooken was originally named Uno and her sister was named Dos. Dos was adopted by one of our co-workers and was renamed Sheba. We are fortunate to visit Sheba regularly and compare kitty characteristics. The mother still visits when its time to eat or just to chill, we are not sure where she lives.
