Arrival Story:
Picasso had been fostered through my good friend who helps out the Michigan Humane Society. She called us to let us know of this very nice adult cat that she was taking care of. Apparently the woman who had adopted him 4 years earlier when he was a kitten was no longer able to take care of him. He was surrendered back to the Humane Society and they put him up for adoption at one of the extension centers off-site. Unfortunately for him, he was then exposed to an URI so he was pulled and put into foster care to recover. Fortunately for us, he ended up at my friend's home for some love and care to try and get over the kitty cold.

As a MHS foster, Picasso supports Michigan Humane Society Mega March team, Making Treads for Fosters! Their page can be found at www.michiganhumane.org/goto/Making Treads

I cannot believe that the time has gone by so fast. I certainly have it made around here. They have this special Siamese cat food for me, but I still crunch and drop about 1/3 of the kibble anyhow. I'm not sure what is supposed to be so special about this food. My people remark that it should be good for my giant fangs and my chewing, but I'm not too sure. Oh well, it's pretty tasty anyhow.

I have found all these great places to hide. I have some cat cubes that I tear up pretty quickly. I think the lady is pretty disappointed, but really, I LOVE them and just want to play in the cubes. Chewing and ripping is part of that great fun!

This house has some pretty good long paths for me to run. Although, I find that making the corner sometimes is a bit challenging. I'm surprised to find the rugs have these little tunnels once in a while when I run back around. I just have to stop and see what happened and find out if something went under them. I'm sure something must be making these tunnels. One of these days I WILL catch whatever it is when I poke my nose and long, lankly limbs in there to see what's inside!

It's getting chilly out again. I'm making some nests in the blankets on the couch. My cat next that I like to sleep in is on the bed. It's nice to sleep where everyone else is.

I'm pretty happy! purr, purr!

Boy is it finally hot around here!

I've been sleeping for hours each day in the sunshine. I'll get up sometimes to go get a bite or two. I have this new food that the lady and man say is 'special' just for me! They say it's some special Siamese cat food so I don't make so many crumbs on the floor. I still do my best to crunch up the stuff and spit pieces out all around on the floor so they have something to do each day.

Some mornings, the lady has an alarm go off. She says it's time to get up, but I like to crawl up and put my paws on the pillow up under her neck and shove my head next to hers and go back to sleep.

At night, I'm running around once it cools off. This place has some pretty good straight paths for me to just run like a maniac and howl! I have these giant pieces of paper from some boxes that I poke around in as well. They make pretty neat cat tents that I hide in and then jump around to make noise too.

There are all sorts of creatures that run around outside. There are these things called squirrels that come up on the deck and peek at me. I don't get it though...there are definitely at least 3 different kinds of 'squirrels', but that's what the lady calls them. Then there are these itty, bitty squirrel looking fuzzballs that run up on the porch and dig in the planters. They have stripes and make sounds like chirping birds! They are odd little fuzzy ones.

A few moths have been flying around the house. I do my best to capture them, but the lady and man don't like me chasing anything that is flying around. I really love the challenge and I get to leap and leap and leap. (It's something I'm really good at! I can make it all the way to the lady's shoulder some days when she's not paying attention and I want to see what she's doing.)

There are also these crazy things with lots of long legs that I chase around and try to chew on. The man doesn't like these at all. I think they are great fun to play with. The legs come right off and they still try to run away from me really fast, but they are no match for my teeth and paws!

Off to the hunt...or maybe another nap.

Winter. What is it with this cold that seeps in at the windows? I try to turn my back to the sun and warm up as much as possible when there is sunshine! It's nice to cook on the blanket on the table.

It was pretty exciting a while ago when the house was all cleaned up. Then these fake trees came up from the 'down below place'. I wasn't allowed to the 'down below place' for quite some time. I'd wail at the door when the lady would go down there. I could hear her doing something, but I don't know what! But, I digress. These fake trees appeared. I don't know what is up with those things - no birds, no good outdoorsy smells. Go figure.

But, they did get some pretty sparkly lights and then other shinies were hung from the branches where birds would be! I tried to play with some of the shinies, but they just were not too much fun, so I just relaxed under the fake tree instead. Sometimes I thought it would be fun to sit up tall and stick my head up between some of the branches. This must be what is is like to be a bird.

A few days later there was just a MOB of people in the house! I had so much fun running around and visiting everyone. It was a bunch of people I've never seen before and they were loving me! When someone would get up, I sat on the vacant chair and tried to listen to the conversations. It was a lot of people talking at once about a whole bunch of stuff! Some people would reach over and try to pet me, but it would stop my concentration from listening in. All that rubbing of my head and ears blocks the sounds, so I would try to duck around the hands as I sat listening and looking.

Then, this little girl got these great looking cat toys! She ripped some paper off a box and pulled out these great orange, red and yellow balls. They were shaped kind of oddly, but they rolled around just fine. She set them down near me so I thought she was going to share them with me to play with her. I gave the red one a swat and it wobbled around as it rolled towards the coffee table. How disappointing to have her reach over, grab it up and tell me, "MY apple!" I thought for certain that we would be playing together, but I was mistaken.

I had my first night alone the next week. It was kind of quiet and weird to be here without anyone. I like having my people here. It's been good lately though, while the man was gone, the lady was still here to play with me and keep me company. Every so often, I try to leap up to have either of them catch and hold me. The lady has figured it out and will grab onto me. I've just ended up bouncing off the man. I think he needs more training.
