Why fix me if I'm not broked?

I don't get it. Meowmy says I'm old enuff now to get "fixed." I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound fun. It involves me going to the vet.

I hate that woman (the vet, that is) even though she lets me attack her Q-tips. That's kinda fun. 'Cept all that other stuff that isn't fun.

Belle's says her Momcat once had "the talk" with her. She said being not fixed was very terrible cause then you have lots and lots of babies and could get ded easy. Belle says getting fixed was great for her cause she doesn't want babies anyway and I was like "Whoa! Chill! Who said anything about me havin' babies?! Boys are gross!"

Belle's weird.

Sebastian says when he got fixed, he knew something was missing but still isn't sure what it is.

I don't get it. Meowmy tells me it's the best thing for me cause it will save me health trouble and "hormonal discomfurt" later on. I have no clue what she's talking about.

My Momcat never had "the talk" with me...I guess I was too little when I got put outside and later got found by Meowmy. I wonder where my brofurs and sisfurs and Momcat are? I wonder if they got put outside too? I wonder if they have Meowmys? I wonder if Momcat is fixed now and doesn't have "hormonal discomfurt" anymore? I wonder if my brofurs and sisfurs are fixed, or are they out there having babies (eww) like Momcat did?

I don't know. I guess I'm lucky that Meowmy found me. And if Meowmy says I should get fixed, I guess Meowmy knows best.

P.S. we think that Emily and her littermates were the unwanted children of someone's "pet" cat. Since she was never afraid of humans, it's not likely that she was feral (like Belle and Sebastian were). Her mother never taught her to be afraid because she herself probably wasn't. Since we found 4-week-old Emily all alone in a rural area under the porch of my in-laws (who live next to a main road) we believe that someone scattered the kittens around the area, maybe by dropping them one by one along the side of the road, as soon as they were weaned. Emily was lucky to find shelter under the porch of a cat-loving family or most likely she would have starved or gotten hit by a car or died from the anemia caused by her terrible flea infestation. I wonder if her mother ever got spayed, or if she still continues to have unwanted litters that can easily be "disposed of" like Emily's litter was.

just doin' my job

Meowmy isn't feeling well today. She's spending the whole day in bed.

Of course, this means I must spend my whole day in bed wiff her and snorgle her and purr as much as I can. Because this job is so important, I only take breaks to use the litter bocks and occasionally play-fight wiff Sebastian.

Meowmy calls me a "therapeutic fuzzball of love" which I guess is a good thing. Sebastian has been wiff me most of the time during my vigil, and only leaves when he's had enuff of the play-fighting. Even Belle layed wiff Meowmy for a bit but she was too busy doin Belle things to lay around long.

I'm the only one who stuck like gloo to Meowmy and maintained my constant purring ALL DAY. I call it "endurents purring" and I think it should be a Olimpic sport cause if it was I would win a gold medal.

Meowmy thinks I should get a gold medal anyway for bein a good kitty. Sebastian and me would share it. And Belle too. We would all share it cause I like to share and I'm nice like that.

new kitty condo!!

Dude! My Meowmy brought home a kitty condo for me! It's pawsome for scratching and lounging and climbing and attacking Belle and Sebastian. It's my own little clubhouse all for meee! Oh, and I share it with Belle and Sebastian too, if they ask nice.

Meowmy got it for free from a nice guy 20 minutes from where we live. She got it from something cool called Freecycle. It's a email Meowmy gets with people offering stuff they don't want for free, all you gotta do is pick it up. This guy's two cats were too big to use the condo, but I'm small enuff to fit in the holes and on the top without tipping it or getting stuck. It even matches our other cat tree and it's sitting next to it, so we can jump from one to the other. Fun!

Meowmy says that the kitty condo is a much better place to scratch than the sofa.

Meowmy's entry...

Meowmy wanted to rite in my diary for today, but I told her "No Meowmy! Catster is for cats onlee!" Sebastian said I was just bein a "rebellyus adolesont" whatever that means and that Meowmy could use his Catster diary if she wanted...but I was like "No way! She asked me furst!" So I won that argooment and Meowmy gets to use my diary today. So here she is:

Hello everyone! I'm very privileged to be able to write in Emily's diary today. First of all, Thanks to Catster for picking Emily as a Daily Diary Pick today! This is her second time as DDP, and she's really excited about it. Sometimes she lets the fame go to her head, though.

I'm very tired today, because I stayed up until midnight last night making cat food. As many of you already know, Belle, Sebastian, and Emily eat homecooked food. Belle was diagnosed with urine crystals a few months back, and the vet would like to put her on prescription food, or a high quality canned. After researching how to make cat food at home, I realized that I could make a very high quality "wet" food at home for far cheaper than buying commercial food. So, after lots and lots of research, I took the plunge and bought some meat.

I think it should be mentioned at this point that I am a strict vegetarian and raw meat grosses me out profoundly.

BUT my cats love the stuff....

SO, they win.

Feeding my strict carnivores has been "fun" to say the least. I can't stomach the thought of completely raw-feeding them, just because I hate raw meat that much (it's the bacteria, I think...I'm a bit of a germophobe). But I don't want to feed them commercial food either...so...cooked homemade food is the best option for all of us.

I started out with buying ground turkey from the store and cooking it in a pan (this is before Emily came to live with us) and adding supplements. The cats starting getting a little thin from just the turkey, so for awhile we were buying chicken legs and cooking them and removing the bone and adding supplements (the skin and fat added calories so the cats got to a more normal weight). Then, we decided that it would be more natural to buy a whole chicken and cook that and add supplements (we figured the giblets would add some extra somethin' somethin'). We were in this stage when Emily came into our lives. For the first time last night, I only partially cooked the whole chicken (just enough that the meat was still pinkish but most of the bloody stuff was gone...eww) removed it from the bone, added some supplements and raw chicken livers (the livers eliminated the need to use vitamin A & D supplements, but added a huge yuck factor). I had no idea the grocery store even carried chicken livers (being a vegetarian, I don't hang out in the meat section too often. In fact, I never even visited the meat section until I started making cat food). It's amazing what you'll find when you explore a bit.

It's also amazing what you'll do in the name of love.

Did I mention that meat grosses me out majorly? As I was skeletonizing the chicken at 11:30 last night, Sebastian came to see what I was up to and then, realizing what I was up to, whined for some chicken. I gave him a hunk of it and watched as he eagerly devoured his "prey". Remembering why I was doing this made me feel much better. As much as I hate handling meat, I'm convinced that I'm doing what's best for my kids. It makes me feel good when I watch them running around like crazy and eating with so much gusto (Belle and Sebastian never had this much energy while eating kibble, even as kittens. Emily always has energy...but hasn't tasted kibble since she came to live with us and she's better for it).

Remembering how happy it makes them helps to reduce my gag reflex. For any fellow vegetarians out there that happen to live with cats and feed them homecooked or raw, I salute you.

I'll give Emily's blog back to her now...she's seriously walking on the keyboard.

Whoops! Typo! Meowmy is done with my diary now. I wanted it back. But I have nothing to say. So. Bye!

One monff later...

I's been wiff my furmily for one monff! Whoa! Everytime Meowmy's mommy comes over to visit, she says I'm getting so big! Meowmy thinks I'm still pretty small tho, and that's good cause I can use my cuteness for gettin' stuff. Hehe.

Good news! This morning, Sebastian let me groom him on his back. We have been playin a lot lately, lots of wrestlin and rollin around! I was laying wiff him on Meowmy and Daddy's bed, and we were both givin ourselfs baffs, and then I started givin him a baff and he gave me a lil baff. I think he lurvs me now. I knew he would get less grumpy soon!

Belle still lurvs me too, even tho I chase her around and play wiff her tail. She used to be able to get up high where I couldn't reach her, but now I lerned how to clime the sofa and the cat tree and get on the bed, so she can only go on the coffee table to get away from me...hehe...it's a challenge to try to get her! Soon I'll figure out how to get from the sofa to the coffee table and be able to chase her...hmm...how to do that?

I've been eating lots and lots of yummy food! Meowmy's mommy came over a couple days ago and helped Meowmy make chicken for our food. Meowmy's mommy (Meowmy says I can call her Granmeowmy) kept feeding me bits of chicken...right from the table...I lerned how to jump on her lap and got on the table and ate right from the bowl of chicken...Meowmy put a stop to that pretty fast, but Granmeowmy lets me get away with stuff cause I'm so cute. She likes to buy us all lots of toys too. Sebastian says she's the one who grows catnip in her backyard and brings it to us...I don't know what catnip is, but Sebastian says I'll like it when I'm old enuff...peer pressure?

Wow! Catster lurvs my diary!

Just wanted to share a nice story...

I heard Meowmy talking to a friend of hers. The friend is the new proud Meowmy of two lil kittens! Her husband was driving to work in the rain one morning, and he saw cars and trucks swerving up ahead. When he got there, he saw what they were swerving to miss: two tiny kittens! Him being a very nice man pulled over and picked up the kittens so they wouldn't get runned over and more wet (cause kittens hate bein wet...I know that from essperience). The Momcat was "on the side of the road" (I don't know what that means, but I don't think I want to know). He took them to work with him in his truck, cause he had to go to work and the kittens waited patiently until he was all done. He tooked them home to his wife and son and they lurved them up and gave them kitten formula in a dropper (they were very very tiny). Even tho their old cat (who is 19, has three legs and is on thyroid medication...they lurv their cat) didn't like the new kittens AT ALL. They took the kittens to the vet, made them grow more big and strong, and are showin them lots and lots of lurv. They guess they'll keep the kittens, even tho the old cat is grumpy.

Meowmy thought that was a nice story to share! It has a happy ending and it's nice to know that there are such nice people in the world who would pull over on a highway in the rain on their way to work to rescue two little kittens and then nurse them back to health. Meowmy thinks he's a hero. I don't know what hero means, but I think it means a really nice person that lurvs cats!

New collar and other stuff

Meowmy and Daddy got me a collar today...it's my first one ever and I think it looks nice even tho it's kinda gonna take some getting used to. Belle and Sebastian have collars, and Belle says that it's a "rite of passage" to have a collar fitted. I have no clue what that means, but I pretended I did.

My collar is green wiff light green and yellow circles. It has a release buckle in case I get caught on anything. Meowmy took the jingle bell off cause it annoyed me (and everyone else). It's a little bit loose, even tho it's as small as it gets. Sebastian says that if I got caught on anything, it would prolly be easier to just slip out of the collar instead of popping the buckle. He's the master at taking his collar off, so I believe him. Tho I don't ever think I'm gonna get caught on anything cause I'm too smart.

Meowmy thinks she should have left the jingle bell on so she can hear me coming. I love to attack Meowmy and Daddy's feet and hands and hair and clothes...and...Belle and Sebastian's tails and stuff. I'm just playing, and I think it's lots of fun to practice my huntin skillz on stuff. I have a gazillion toys, and Meowmy is always playing toy-on-a-stick with me, but I dunno. I just love attacking stuff! Sebastian says that I better grow out of it, or he's gonna smack me. Meowmy always says "No!" really loudish whenever I attack her or Daddy...but I don't think she actually means "No" like "No! Stop it"...I think she means "Know" like "I know that you're having fun" or "You should know how to hunt better so it's okay that you're practicing"

Daddy calls me a "bruiser" cause I'm always getting into stuff and I'm so tuff. Meowmy and Daddy know that I'm going to grow up fastly and we're all having lots of fun!

Week 3 wiff the furmily!

Wow! Time goes by so fastly! I'm about 8 weeks old now and I've been wiff my furmily for three weeks. My brofur and sisfur Sebastian and Belle are really starting to like me now...and both of them play wiff me and chase me around. I lurv to chase them too! We're still trying to figure out who eats where, cause everyfur wants to steal everyfur else's food...I guess we'll get used to it soon.

I'm growing up so fastly and bigly...Meowmy can't believe it! We went to visit Daddy's mom and dad, the ones who furst found me under their porch. Even they said I'm getting big! I had a great time esplorin' their house and talkin wiff their kittehs, Linus and Teddy and runnin from their goggie, Margot. Margot is very loud and kinda scary, even though she's just a small Jack Russel goggie. She runs around a lot and I was 'fraid that she was gonna squish me! I tried my best to be tuff and hiss at her, but she wasn't scared of me. So I hid from her even though she just wanted to play wiff me. Oh well. Maybe once I'm all big I can play wiff Margot.

Bad news. The fleas kinda came back. Meowmy seed one on me yesterday and she gave me a baff right away. She only found three on me during and after the baff, and she made sure she kilded them. Belle and Sebastian are still safe with the flea stuff on their backs, but I'm still too small. Today, she checked me and didn't see any on me, so I 'scaped from the baff today. She keeps telling Daddy that she needs to run the vacuum monster again to suck up all the fleas. Maybe I'll get another baff tomorrow. I hope not. Sebastian says that he'll try to kill the fleas for me. I hope they all jump on him and Belle so the fleas die right away from the flea stuff. It sounds like a good plan to me. Much better than the baffs. We'll see.

Hello everyfur!

I've been wiff my new family for almost two weeks now! I went to the vet last week and she said I was about 6 weeks old then...so...I'm 7 weeks old now (Meowmy had to help me wiff the math). The vet was kinda scary (cause there was a boxer dog there with a tongue as big as me!) but mostly fun (cause the vet and the vet tech gushed about how cute I was and the vet played with me and gave me treats). The vet says that I'm too little for flea medicine, but gave me something yucky for worms...Meowmy said I was very brave and thanked me for being such a good girl and taking my medicine. The vet tech thought I was a boy, and kept looking under my tail... how embarrasin! I think I'm very feminine! But later the vet said that I was definitely a girl. Duh! My brofur and sisfur are big enough for flea stuff, so they got some on their backs...but...

...after Meowmy learned that I'm too little for flea stuff, she decided to give me a baff wiff human baby shampoo. She soaked my face and ears first, and put soap all over my head...the fleas tried to crawl in my eyes and mouff (yuk!) but the soap killeded them! And then she put soap all over me and I complained and complained...but the soap killeded all the fleas! When all the fleas were ded, Meowmy picked them off with a tweezers and squished them and rinseded them down the sink... then she dried me off and held me and told me I was a good girl and I fell asleep. Meowmy gave me another baff the next day, and didn't find any more fleas! And she gave me another baff yesterday, and still no fleas! I'm so happy that I'm not itchy anymore!

In related news, Meowmy has been running the big scary vacuum monster a lot lately...my brofur Sebastian says it's cause my fleas went on the floor. Oops.

Now that I don't have fleas anymore, Meowmy left me out of the baffroom (Meowmy says I was quarantined cause of the fleas...whatever that means...and cause she wanted Belle and Sebastian to get used to my smell before I got to meet them) So now I got to meet my big brofur and sisfur and all I wanted to do was play and play and play wiff dem, but only Belle wanted to play wiff me! Sebastian hissed at me and runned away! I was very sad, but I kept on trying to play wiff him...and after a week of him running away, he finally stays in the same room wiff me and even lets me get close to him! I'm sure I will be able to play wiff him soon, just like I can play wiff Belle. I'm so glad that I have a big brofur AND a big sisfur to love!
