Black and White

Stalking field mice that sneak in the basement. I like string, too, but Mommy doesn't keep any around after I ate some & went to the vet. I like to bug my sister and play with Mom's hair.

Mommy takes too long to thaw the raw! I want it NOW! I don't like getting brushed, either.

Favorite Toy:
Toy mice.

Favorite Nap Spot:
Anywhere, but especially on Mommy's legs.

Favorite Food:
Raw chicken or turkey, and feeder mice (dead ones).

He knows the doorknob has something to do with opening the door, and he's tall enough to reach it when he stands on his hind legs, but he hasn't figured out that he needs to turn the knob yet.

Arrival Story:
A co-worker took in a stray, and one day the lady's daughter let the cat out to visit with her "friend." The friend was a male and the cat got pregnant. I took 2 of the kittens, Pookie, who was the only male in the litter, and Bonnie.

Pookie, like his sister, is a suspected IBD cat with a fish allergy. After years of trying medications and prescription foods with no real success, Mommy got desperate and began researching raw diets. While the transition to raw is ongoing, Pookie is doing much better on his no-dry food, grain-free canned diet with occasional raw. He can even eat Wellness Turkey & Salmon! (grain-free, of course) In March 2015, Pookie was diagnosed with a subcutaneous hemangiosarcoma on his neck. It is a rare, very aggressive cancer, and by the time the results came back, the tumor couldn't be surgically removed due to it's size and location. I chose not to put him through chemo or radiation, because of the stress that would be caused from the long car trips (he doesn't travel well). On April 16, 2015, I let Pookie go. I miss by big, beautiful, handsome kitty. And I will love him, always.

Hi All,

I haven’t posted here in a long time, though I’d kept meaning to. Now that Catster is going away, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone here for their advice and support when I first joined. I’d gone through years of struggle trying to understand why my cats had so many digestive problems, and after I learned about raw feeding, I tried to find a raw forum where I’d feel comfortable asking questions. I discovered Catster, and for the first time, I didn’t feel alone. You’ll never know how much that meant to me, that I could come here and ask questions and FINALLY get some answers.

I also want to thank those of you who’ve sent Zealies and gifts to Pookie and his sister, Bonnie. Thank you so much for your kindness and thoughtfulness. I truly appreciate it.

If you want to find another community of dog and cat lovers who are very focused on species-appropriate nutrition and care, please feel free to visit or join me at Parenting Furkids http://parenting-furkids.com/index.php. You may recognize some of us from Catster. The folks there are very friendly and helpful, and we'd love to have you!

Whether you join me there or not, I wish you all the best. And thanks again, for everything.

Hugs and purrs,

Pookie and Bonnie's Mom

Where did all the mousies go?

Mom let me back into the basement last night, but no mousies! :( Did I catch them all? Maybe the word got out that there's a Mighty Hunter in that basement, who is to be feared, and they're all hiding in the neighbors' housies? Or they decided it was safer outside? Hmmmmmm ….

Well, I'm sure Mom will keep letting me down there, so at least the stalking will continue . . .

Pookie's Pest Patrol: 2 Basement Mice: 0

I'm having so much fun lately! I caught another mouse in the basement last night!!! Tee hee! Mom got it away from me, though, before I could eat it. I think she's still afraid they may not be safe for me to eat, but she doesn't understand, I LIKE mice!!!! They're fun!

Later I wanted to go back in the basement but Mom wouldn't let me, no matter how much I begged. Maybe tonight I can talk her into it. Wish me luck!
