What could be better than good tunes and good felines? How about a combination of the two? Some of your favorite bands have gone to the cats, thanks to the creative folks behind cool cat-inspired band merchandise. Get ready to rock out with your kitty cat out to the soothing sounds of Purrvana, Cat Flag, Hiss, and more. I think you’ll agree that the Insane Clown Posse never looked so cute!
It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 20 years since the death of Kurt Cobain, but the band’s legacy lives on through its music, and through this awesome parody tee by The Original Cat House.
The Etsy shop, which prides itself on being fine “purr-veyors” of feline centric goods, took Nirvana’s iconic smiley face logo and gave it cat ears for a look that’s total Purrvana. But what kinds of songs would the feline-fronted version of Nirvana sing? How about “Smells Like Tabby Spirit,” “Come As Mew Are,” and “Heart Shaped Litter Box,” to name a few?
Laser pointers, how do they work? It’s questions like these that mystify the crazy kitties of Insane Clown Posse cover band, the Insane Cat Posse. This pack of painted felines rap about wicked mice, psychopathic catnip, and the general mayhem known as the dark kitty carnival.
Killer Condo Apparel created the hilarious ICP pullover, which has been on my Etsy favorites list forever, and is available in a T-shirt or raglan style. I’m not really sure how Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope feel about cats, but if you’re looking for a way to stand out, this feline inspired top will definitely elicit attention from other cat lovers at the next Gathering of the Juggalos.
If you’re the type who wants to rock and roll all night and kitty every day, then look no further than a Kiss-inspired cat button from David & Goliath.
The popular Hiss design, which was also available on a now-out-of-print tee, consists of four adorable kittens decked out in classic Kiss makeup. The parody also joins the officially licensed Kiss x Hello Kitty collaboration that came out last year, and includes tees, plush, and accessories featuring HK dolled up as members of the classic rock band.
Hardcore punk pioneers Black Flag broke up in the ’80s (although they’ve technically reunited a few times since then), but its iconic logo lives on as an unbreakable symbol of their non-conformist message.
When artist Raymond Pettibon created the original Black Flag bars in the late ’70s, they were meant to symbolize the band’s themes of rebellion and anarchy. All these years later, I doubt he could have imagined they would take on a life of their own as a Cat Flag — an image that started online as a meme and quickly morphed into T-shirts, tattoos, and patches that celebrate the almighty glory of punk rock and the black cat.
I know it can be tough to find feline-friendly band swag (I can’t seem to find my cat Charlie a cat-sized Skrillex shirt anywhere), but have no fear because your puss can still rock out with catnip cassettes from Too Bad Mice.
The creative toys pay tribute to classic cat acts like Meowtallica, Black Tabbath, Alice Scooper, and more, in the form of colorful cassettes jam packed with delicious organic nip. Score a pack of six for the ultimate mew-sic lover in your life (human or feline), or pick up an individual tape if your hardcore Spayer fan just can’t wrap their paws around Hiss.
