Temptations Cat Treats Review of 2026: Recalls, Pros & Cons

Temptations Cat Treats Review

Temptations Cat Treats: Review Summary

Our Final Verdict

We give Temptations Cat Treats a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Quality: 4/5
Variety: 3.5/5
Ingredients: 4/5
Value: 4/5

A popular American cat treat, Temptations is manufactured by MARS, the same company that produces Whiskas, Greenies, Sheba, and Eukanuba.

Temptations treats are genuinely loved by many cats and their owners. They’re an affordable treat, and while they don’t use the highest-quality ingredients, there are plenty of flavors and formulations to suit almost every cat out there. Most of the recipes do use grain in some form or other, so if your cat is on a grain-free diet, these may not be the right choice. But for most cats, these are good-value treats.

If you’re curious to find out more about these popular treats, we’ll tell you everything that you need to know in our review!

Who Makes Temptations & Where Is It Produced?

Temptations are made by MARS, the same brand that owns a wide range of cat food names including Eukanuba, Sheba, and Whiskas. It also owns the other treat brand, Greenies. Temptations Cat Treats are produced in both the U.S.A. and Canada.

Which Types of Cats Are Temptations Best Suited For?

Most cats absolutely love Temptations, and that’s the reason it’s the best-selling brand of cat treats in America! It comes in a huge range of flavors, so whatever your cat prefers, you’ll probably find a Temptations flavor to suit. However, you should always check with your vet before feeding these to a cat on a special diet to ensure that it is safe for consumption.

Which Types of Cats Might Do Better with a Different Brand?

Cats on a grain-free diet shouldn’t be fed Temptations Cat Treats, as they do contain various forms of grain. Most treats include ground corn and wheat flour. This may trigger allergies or digestive issues, so a better option would be the Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken & Turkey Grain-Free Cat Treats.

If your cat is on a limited-ingredient diet due to allergies or intolerances, then something like The Honest Kitchen Purely One Dehydrated White Fish Fillet Cat Treats will suit them better. Temptations does use a long list of ingredients that may include things that you want to avoid feeding your cat, like dairy, artificial colors, or meat by-products.

Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good & Bad)

Temptations Cat Treats are made in a huge range of different flavors, but most of them contain the same core ingredients. Focusing on these will give you a good idea of whether this is a brand that’s going to suit your cat.

    Complete & Balanced Nutrition

From what we can find, almost all varieties of Temptations Cat Treats are approved by the  Association of American Feed Control Officials to meet the nutrient profiles required by adult cats. Unlike many cat treats, they include complete and balanced nutrition, including things like taurine, which is an essential nutrient for cats.

This means that besides enjoying seeing how much your cat loves their treats, you can feel good about providing them with all the vitamins and minerals that they need to thrive.

    Low in Calories

Every flavor of Temptations that we looked at is formulated to be under 2 calories per treat. This means that if your cat is on a calorie-controlled diet, you can still give them treats when you want to. You can even cut these treats in half to make them go even further!

    Meat By-Products

Meat by-products aren’t inherently bad, but some cat owners prefer to avoid them. Rather than being made with whole meat, by-products comprise entrails, organ meat, and bones, which are ground into a meal. This can be nutritionally dense, but some cat owners prefer to avoid feeding their cats any type of meat by-products, so it’s something to be aware of.

    Grains

Almost all Temptation’s recipes include ground corn and wheat flour. If your cat is on a grain-free diet, you may also wish to avoid treats that contain grains. These treats can raise the carbohydrate levels of cat food and potentially trigger allergies or intolerances in some cats.

    Temptations Cat Treats Recall History

We can’t find any evidence of Temptations Cat Treats recalls of any flavor since the company started.

There have been quite a few posts on social media talking about these treats, with one published on Facebook in 2016 claiming that the treats caused renal failure in cats. The brand replied, “Rest assured our treats undergo hundreds of quality checks in our facility before being shipped out for your cat to eat. We take all concerns seriously.”

The original post was deleted, and there isn’t any evidence that Temptations had contributed to renal failure in cats. MARS responded further to the fact-checking site Snopes, by saying: “We believe that pets are family, and the safety of all pets is our priority. We are confident that our Temptations Treats are 100% safe to feed. Temptations Treats are made in our facility in Canada where they undergo hundreds of safety and quality checks each day.”

Some other MARS brands have been the subject of reviews, and these may be made in the same facilities as Temptations Cat Treats. MARS has a solid reputation for producing good-quality cat food and treats, but it’s still worth keeping an eye on recall databases.

Reviews of the 3 Best Temptations Cat Treats Recipes

    1. Temptations Tasty Chicken Flavor Cat Treats

Temptations Tasty Chicken Flavor Cat Treats

The Temptations Tasty Chicken Flavor is one of the best-selling Temptations treats. It comes in five packet sizes, from a 3-ounce bag to a 30-ounce tub. These treats have a crunchy outside, which helps clean your cat’s teeth, and a tasty soft, and creamy interior.

These treats are 100% nutritionally balanced for adult cats and are made with added vitamins and taurine to keep your cat happy and healthy. They’re perfect to use during training sessions, and you can even split each treat to make them go further. Reviewers say that their cats love these treats so much, they’ll do anything for another. The only downside is that they do contain meat by-products and corn.

    Pros
    • Under 2 calories per treat
    • Great value for money
    • Include vitamins and taurine
    • Helps control tartar
    Cons
    • Contain meat by-product meals
    • Contain ground corn

    2. Temptations Feline Favorites Classic Variety Pack Cat Treats

Temptations Feline Favorites Classic Variety Pack Cat Treats

If your cat loves different flavors, then this is the perfect choice for them. This variety pack comes with four flavors: Creamy Dairy, Tasty Chicken, Seafood Medley, and Tempting Tuna. All the flavors have the signature crunchy outer and soft interior, guaranteed to appeal to your cat.

These are a great choice for training sessions or just when your cat has been extra good. If your cat needs encouragement to eat their dinner, you can sprinkle a few of these on the top to make it more palatable. That said, while these treats are low in calories, they aren’t the healthiest in terms of ingredients. They include meat by-products and corn, which some cat owners prefer to avoid. The Seafood Medley flavor also contains an artificial color.

    Pros
    • Low in calories
    • Nutritionally balanced
    • Sealable bags for freshness
    Cons
    • Contain corn
    • Contain meat by-products
    • Some flavors include artificial colors

    3. Temptations Hairball Control Chicken Flavor Cat Treats

Temptations Hairball Control Chicken Flavor Cat Treats

If your cat suffers from hairballs, then these are the perfect solution to help reduce this issue while also offering a tasty treat. These treats contain the optimum blend of fiber to decrease phlegm and help your cat reduce the number of hairballs that they suffer from.

These treats can be used just like any other treat, except that you can feel good about helping your cat cope with hairballs, which can be a particular problem for long-haired cat breeds. Reviewers are impressed by how effective these treats are, and most notice a marked improvement in the number of hairballs that they’re seeing from their cats.

    Pros
    • Choose from two bag sizes
    • Help control hairballs
    • 100% balanced nutrition
    Cons
    • Contain meat by-products
    • Contain corn

    What Other Users Are Saying

    Conclusion

Temptations Cat Treats is the best-selling cat treat brand in the U.S.A. and has an impressive array of flavors to suit almost all cat tastes. Last we checked, there are over 40 different product options to choose from. Besides being sold in individual pouches and variety packs, Temptations are available in jumbo-sized tubs of 30 ounces, so you can be sure your cat will never run out of their favorite snack.

While Temptations has a few reviewers stating that their cats became ill after eating these treats, there’s no evidence that these treats contain any ingredients that are harmful to cats. We’d expect to see far more negative reviews and recalls if that were the case.

Temptations may not contain the highest-quality ingredients, with meat by-products and grain featuring high on the list, but they’re an extremely palatable and good-value treat option. They are also low in fat, containing just 2 calories per treat. Temptations Cat Treats is a solid choice if you’re looking for a great-value treat that also contains complete and balanced nutrition for your feline friend.
