There are thousands of Maine Coon kittens for sale across the country. And with so many different online forums, it is tempting to purchase the first cute cat you see. Regardless, try to refrain from buying or adopting cats that don’t come from registered Maine Coon cat breeders.

Picking out a new kitten is an emotional experience, and it is way too easy to buy cats from unreputable sources. It becomes even more enticing when the type of kitten you want is available immediately. Buying a Maine Coon kitten is a significant financial decision. If you don’t invest in the right way upfront, it could cost a lot more money in the future.

Let’s take a look at some of the top Maine Coon cat breeders in Michigan so that you know, without a doubt, that you’re purchasing a high-quality cat from an even better-quality breeder.

The 7 Maine Coon Breeders in Michigan

1. Koontucky Maine Coons

📍 Grand Blanc, MI

Even though the name may make you think otherwise, Koontucky Maine Coons isn’t currently located in Kentucky. This breeder started in Louisville and acquired a purebred Maine Coon cat there. The cat was first in show at only 4 months old and titled Supreme Grand Champion and Best Maine Coon Cat in the TICA Great Lakes Region. Koontucky Maine Coons was able to take this outstanding cat and pass on his genes to several sons and daughters.

Koontucky Maine Coons holds The Cat Fanciers’ Association Cattery of Excellence certificate for this year. They dedicate their time to screen all cats for hip dysplasia, spinal muscular atrophy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and pyruvate kinase deficiency by a team at Michigan State University.

Kittens run anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000. This price may seem like a lot, but investing in a quality bloodline is worth it.

2. MaineGate Cattery

📍 Southwest Michigan

MaineGate Cattery is located in Southwest Michigan, close to major cities like Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids. They are another top breeder in the state with the Cattery of Excellence certification from The Cat Fanciers’ Association.

MaineGate was established in 2000 by breeding golden and silver Persian cats. Over time, they fell in love with the gentle temperament of Maine Coons and switched their concentration. Today, MaineGate uses international lines to achieve the stunning size and personalities that purebred Maine Coons are known for.

3. Fluffy Giants Cattery

4. Cat Knapp Maine Coons

📍 Ada, MI

Located in Ada, Michigan, Cat Knapp Maine Coons is another breeder certified by TICA, CFA, and Cat Kingpin. The adoption process is simple, but that doesn’t mean the kittens will be immediately available.

You know that this breeder cares deeply about their cats because of the mandatory contract that must be signed before taking a kitten home. The contract ensures that you have the health of the kitten in mind. They also ask you to send updates every 6 months so that they can ensure that each cat is in a loving and safe home.

5. Celebrity Maine Coons

📍 Eaton Rapids, MI

Celebrity Maine Coons is a proud, small breeder located in Eaton Rapids. This husband-and-wife duo breeds purebred, TICA-certified Maine Coons on their 47-acre farm. They got started breeding show rabbits and switched to Maine Coons in 2002. They focused on breeding Maine Coon cats for their loving personalities and calm tempers.

All kittens are FIV and FeLV-free. They are also up to date on all vaccinations, come with a 1-year health guarantee, and go through an additional vet check before going home with you. Their cats are bred to have a rugged appearance, easy-to-maintain coats, and lovable personalities.

6. Exotic Purr

Conclusion

The high upfront price that comes from a reputable breeder is there for a reason. Breeders put everything they have into the health of their kittens, and they only want to sell to buyers who will love and value their kittens as much as they do. The initial kitten cost may seem high compared to other sites, but those breeders are not registered, and you never know what you’ll get.

Buying from a quality breeder in your area is one of the best ways to ensure that your Maine Coon kitties will live long, healthy lives alongside their new owner and best friend.
