There’s no denying that the internet loves cats and is always looking for more cat content. Many cats have become internet famous and have amassed millions of followers on various social media accounts.

If you enjoy taking pictures of your cat and sharing them with others, you might have fun creating an Instagram account for your cat. With some time and patience, your cat may even end up becoming the next big cat-fluencer. Here are some practical tips that will help you get started on building your cat’s Instagram account.

Before You Start

Fortunately, most smartphones have high-quality cameras that will suffice for any beginner Instagrammer. So, there’s really no need to go out of your way to purchase an expensive camera or other photography equipment. Usually, a phone camera will do, and you can purchase an inexpensive ring light if your house doesn’t receive very much natural lighting.

If you notice that you enjoy photography as you take photos of your cat, then you can consider investing in professional photography equipment. Until then, you can get by using just your camera phone.

Lastly, create a separate Instagram account for just your cat, and make sure only to post content featuring your cat. When creating a new account, select a name that’s easy to search for and remember. This will help immensely with getting people to find your cat’s Instagram account.

The 7 Tips on How to Make Your Cat Instagram Famous

1. Learn to Take High-Quality Photos

Learning how to take good photos is much more important than purchasing fancy photography equipment. It takes time and practice to take clear and beautiful photos of your cat. So, make sure to familiarize yourself with your camera’s features. Keep in mind that some cameras have a pet mode that automatically reconfigures your camera’s settings to help reduce blurring.

It’s also extremely helpful to train your cat to sit on command while you have your camera out. This will reduce the likelihood of them running away while you’re trying to take a photo of them. Always make sure to reward your cat and give them their favorite treats whenever they sit on command. Eventually, they’ll build a positive association with your camera and will be less likely to scamper away when they see it.

2. Take Videos

These days, posting only photos isn’t enough. Instagram audiences prefer scrolling through short-form videos and watching Instagram Reels. Therefore, including videos in your cat’s Instagram feed is essential.

Fortunately, you don’t need expensive editing software to create a viral video. Instagram’s built-in editing tool works well with beginner Instagrammers. Video clips that have been cut and edited are often much more dynamic and engaging than posting one long, unedited video of your cat. It’s also helpful to add trending background music to your video and some fun text to keep viewers engaged and interested.

3. Showcase Your Cat’s Personality

There are millions of cats on the internet, so it’s important to highlight your cat’s unique personality and let them shine. Let people get to know your cat by posting photos and videos of them doing things that they like to do. When writing captions, write in the “voice” of your cat.

Be consistent with your content and content messaging. This will help your audience get acquainted with your cat. They’ll be more likely to revisit if they have a gist of what to expect from your cat’s Instagram account.

4. Post Consistently

It’s important to post content consistently to show that your cat’s Instagram account is live and active. When taking photos of your cat, take multiple shots so that you can start accumulating a stock of photos that you can post. You may also want to consider doing some sort of video series so that you have a schedule of video content that you can post regularly.

It can be time-consuming to dedicate a portion of every day to post content, so it doesn’t hurt to explore content scheduling apps. These types of apps allow you to create all your content in one sitting and post them automatically according to the schedule you create. So, you can spend some time once a week creating posts and then let the app take care of posting them throughout the rest of the week.

5. Pay Attention to Your Feed

Don’t forget about what your cat’s Instagram feed looks like. Many users like to scroll through an Instagram feed and don’t really spend time looking through every single photo on an account. So, it’s worth paying attention to your feed’s aesthetic.

Many pet Instagram accounts use similar lighting and filters on photos to give their Instagram feed a more cohesive appearance. Make sure not to post similar-looking photos twice in a row. Create variety by posting photos of your cat that are taken from different angles. You can also alternate between posting close-ups of your cat and medium shots.

6. Be Engaging

Make sure to engage with your audience. You can do this by responding to comments or even adding audio clips to your videos to make it sound like you’re talking to your audience. It’s also helpful to follow other pet Instagram accounts and leave a few comments on their posts. You can build a network of followers through these types of engagement. Just make sure not to overdo it and end up spamming other Instagram accounts.

7. Use Appropriate Hashtags

Hashtags categorize social media content, and they can help people find your cat’s Instagram account. Use a mix of hashtags that are related to your pet’s Instagram account and relevant to the specific content you’re posting for the day. Make sure not to overdo it with the hashtags, as many spam accounts will flood their captions with hashtags. It’s recommended to stick to 3–5 hashtags per post.

Conclusion

It takes time, practice, and consistency to create a beautiful Instagram account for your cat. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun throughout the process. Pet photography can be an enjoyable hobby and art form, and it can be a great way to bond and spend time with your cat. So, go ahead and take some cute photos and videos of your cat. With a little editing and consistency, you can create plenty of engaging content to post online that will make others fall in love with your special and wonderful cat.
