Hartz Cat Toys Review of 2025: Pros, Cons & Verdict

Hartz Toy Review

Review Summary

Our Final Verdict

We give Hartz cat toys 4.2 out of 5 stars.

To give you an idea of what Hartz is as a company, here are a few things to know. Hartz has been in business since the better part of the last century, but they started out mainly with bird care. Now they’ve expanded and have concentrated their efforts on dog and cat care. We can say that Hartz is a trustworthy brand, but there is more to it than just that.

In this article, we’ll discuss whether or not their toys are the right option for your cat.

Who Makes Hartz Cats Toys and Where Are They Produced?

Hartz makes and produces its products in China. We always like to see things made in the U.S.A, but being made in China is typical for most toy manufacturers. Hartz toys are available at large retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and Chewy.

Which Type of Cats Are Hartz Toys Suited For?

The Just for Cats line of toys is Hartz’s premium choice for felines that want something interactive. For example, our picks mostly consist of engaging toys such as a pop-up tent (with a dangling bird!), bell balls, and even a feather wand for maximum engagement between you and your cat.

Which Type of Cats Would Do Better With a Different Brand?

On the other hand, they are not as suited for cats that like solving puzzles or complex problems. If your cat is like this, it might be better to go with something like Cat Amazing, which sells cat treat puzzles. Hartz toys also might not be the best for the most active of cats, as these don’t provide much running around.

    Hartz Cats Toys Are Inexpensive

The best thing about Hartz cat toys is that they are super cheap! Most of their premium toys (Just for Cats) are still quite affordable and their durability makes it unnecessary to replace them often. Unless you have a very feisty cat!

    The Bad

Unfortunately, the big downside to Hartz products is that they are made in China. That doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t worth buying, but usually, it’s a good sign to see companies making their products in the U.S.A or Canada. Another thing we should mention is that some of their other products have had some major issues in the past, like their flea and tick collar and shampoo, which have had some negative public views.

Reviews of the 3 Best Hartz Cats Toys

Here’s the rundown on three of Hartz’s highest-rated cat toys. Each of them is a different style, so these aren’t in a particular order.

    1. Hartz Just for Cats Variety Pack

Hartz Just For Cats Toy Variety Pack

The Just for Cats variety pack is an assortment of cat toys that keep an incredibly low price point.

Included in the package are various stuffed mice, bell balls, a small cloth wand, and even a small catnip-infused item. The value of this product as a whole is very good for the cost, but many of the toys have a similar shape. They’re made of different materials and textures, with some made from plastic and others from plush. All of the toys (even the wand) are pretty small, so they’re good for smaller cats.

    Pros
    • Low price
    • Multiple toys
    • Highest-rated cat toy product by Hartz
    Cons
    • Not a ton of variety
    • Not great for large cats

    2. Hartz Just for Cats Peek & Play Pop-Up Tent

10Hartz Just For Cats Peek & Play Pop-Up Tent Cat Toy

This red-colored pop-up tent is a small hideout for your cat.

It has a hanging bird toy on one side to give them a little extra to interact with. Also, there are a few holes on the sides for your cats or kittens to poke their heads out and climb around. The tent comes with a blanket on the bottom so your cats can stay comfortable if you decide to use it on hard floors or outside.

Remember though, it’s not made for cat camping!

    Pros
    • Great for inactive cats or multiple kittens
    • Lightweight and easy to store
    • Auto-deploys
    Cons
    • Expensive compared to other toys
    • Not durable enough for outdoor use

    3. Hartz Just for Cats Twirl & Whirl Wand Toy with Catnip

The Just for Cats Twirl & Whirl Wand Toy is super affordable. It comes with catnip to entice your cat to play with the toy, just in case the feathers and dangling toy aren’t enough.

However, the catnip will likely wear off over time, and it doesn’t indicate that it’s replaceable. But as affordable as this wand is, you can just buy a new one. The wand is around 3 feet long in total, so you don’t have to worry about getting caught in the crossfire of your cat’s claws. It also has a bell to keep your cat’s attention.

With this toy, the color varies, so keep in mind that you might not get the one pictured.

    Pros
    • Affordable
    • Made with catnip
    • Features a bell and features
    Cons
    • Catnip may not be replaceable

    Conclusion

Simply put, Hartz cat toys are worth buying. If you need to entertain your cat without shelling out a ton of cash, they fit perfectly within any budget. What is just as important is the fact that they don’t break instantly when your feline plays with them. However, if your cat craves learning and action, it might be better to look for other brands.

    1. My cat's favorite mini mice are now very costly and hard to find. A small pack is ten dollars at Walmart. Some of their newer mini mice are now made with rabbit fur. I have many older ones so she'll have to make due with all those elderly mini mice!
