Sometimes we meet our best friends in unexpected places — and sometimes those friendships cross all boundaries, transcending other people’s definitions of what a “normal” friendship should be. Take, for example, that time I was best friends with a blueberry pie for 48 hours, after which I slowly ate it. Nobody expected that friendship to last, and ÔǪ well, I guess they were right. But for the cats and ducks in these videos, interspecies friendship seems to be working out just fine.
1. Yellow kittens
Della the cat lives on a farm in Ireland. Apparently she thinks these ducklings are her fuzzy, yellow, web-footed, weird-looking babies who speak a different language — but she loves them just the same.
2. Shark chases duck
Given recent post-Super Bowl discussions about Left Shark, Katy Perry’s awesome/unfortunate/confused backup dancer, now seems an appropriate time to revisit this cat chasing a duck while dressed as a shark and riding a Roomba. Don’t you love it when real life resembles the best acid trip ever?
3. It’s weird, but it works
After the loss of their beloved black lab, this family adopted a duck named Penny to help ease their grief. The duck quickly befriended the family’s two cats, becoming, according to the video, “convinced she was part feline.” The trio eats, plays, and even snuggles together. Just wait for the shot of them napping together in a giant pile. “It’s weird, but it works,” the video says.
4. A ragtag bunch
When these folks started feeding the ducks on their lawn, a stray calico cat occasionally joined in, peacefully (for the most part) sharing bread with the ducks. The cat was later trapped, spayed, and adopted. As for the ducks — they presumably continued to hang around and eat more bread.
5. A moment of Zen
Here’s your moment of Friday Zen: An impossibly fluffy kitten in a rustic wooden crate with a flock of squeaking, excitable ducklings. Take a deep breath and enjoy.
