I love kitties’ bodies, from the top of the ears to the tip of the tails. Sometimes I just sit and stare at my cats while they’re sleeping, taking in all the glorious feline goodness.
Cosmo’s tuxie form especially tickles me, and for multiple reasons. He’s my special boy and usually allows me to gaze, pet, poke, and huff at my leisure. Usually.
Here are the six reasons why his sweet kitty body sends me into fits of giggles.
1. The Hershey’s Kiss
Cosmo’s 12 years old this year and has filled out a bit as he’s aged. He’s not overweight or anything — he’s just got a little extra somethin’-somethin’ goin’ on and I absolutely love it. The other day I was staring at him while he was staring at me and then I suddenly noticed something that made me smile: The way he was sitting reminded me of a Hershey’s Kiss. I couldn’t stop laughing! And then I wanted chocolate.
2. The man panties
I’ve mentioned Cosmo’s man panties now and again in my writing. He has this little triangular patch of white fur that’s definitely located in the panty position. He likes to roll around and show them off. I like thinking of him strutting down the catwalk (ha ha) at a Victoria’s Secret lingerie show.
3. The pear
When Cosmo eats, the Hershey’s Kiss morphs into a perfect pear. Look at him! I’d never want a shiny black pear in my fruit basket, but I’ll take one in cat form any day. Also, I notice that my imagination is often occupied with food. Mmm … occupied.
4. The perpetually cranky expression
Sometimes when people meet Cosmo or see his photo, they assume he’s a cranky fellow, and sometimes he is. He’s kind of like an old man who’s set in his ways, but is also the ultimate mama’s boy. His facial markings give him “resting cranky face,” and that makes me laugh. He’s looks kind of like a fancy dandy of a fellow — kind of snooty, like he should have a monocle, top hat, and cane. The tux helps.
5. The thumper foot
Despite is fancy dandy appearance, Cosmo is sometimes a sloppy sitter. My Phoebe tucks so tightly when she loafs, but Cosmo usually has something sticking out, or his front leg isn’t folded all the way in. My favorite sloppy-sitting position is what I call the “thumper foot.” He sits Hershey’s Kiss-style, and then kicks one of his back feet out so he looks like Thumper, the rabbit from Bambi. It’s the most adorable and hilarious thing … at least to me it is!
Once, my daughter and I were admiring his thumper foot and guess what happened? It started thumping! Just like the cartoon rabbit! It only thumped for a few seconds, but my daughter and I looked at each other like, “Did that really happen?” And then we busted out in laughter. Cosmo did not share our amusement.
6. The “jungle pouch”
Something else that’s happened to my boy as he’s gotten older is that he’s developed a squishy, swinging “jungle pouch” on his lower belly — you know, where his man panties are. When he’s in my lap, I like to rub it between my finger. It’s like a worry stone, except flabbier. Really, I can’t keep my hands off this part of his body. It magically pulls me in whenever I see it exposed. It’s fantastic!
