Sad news came to us over the weekend when it was announced that Quasi, the self-proclaimed leader of the Ugly Kitty movement and a recent Monday Miracle here on Catster, had passed away.
Posting to Facebook, Quasi’s owner Renee wrote, “It’s with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to the greatest cat there ever was today. After talk of liver failure, sepsis, and an unlikely recovery, we made the heartbreaking decision to let her go peacefully. Quasi, we’ll miss you so much. Love and paws.”
The portly kitty’s unusual look was speculated to come from a cleft lip issue that was never corrected; it also means that Quasi had to endure some sinus problems that hindered her sense of smell. Beyond those facial irregularities, though, Quasi seemed enjoying her life. She was rescued from a shelter in Annapolis, Maryland. Her owner reported that she spent many days joyfully stashing pens under coffee tables and snuggling up to humans.
As tributes poured in, Renee thanked Quasi’s fans and admirers for their support. She also added that the Ugly Kitty Facebook page will continue to be updated as a commitment to furthering the cause of “encouraging people to adopt the “less adoptable.””
To that end, you can still purchase Quasi-endorsed items from the Ugly Kitty online store, with the proceeds going first to paying off Quasi’s outstanding medical bills and then to other unusual-looking kitties in need.
If you want to pay your respects to this brilliantly distinctive-looking cat, please visit to Quasi’s Facebook page.
