Triumph Cat Food Review

Review Summary

Our Final Verdict

We give Triumph cat food a rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars overall.

Triumph brand cat food has earned an above-average rating compared to other brands that we have reviewed. Our rating is based on product quality, packaging, price, taste, shelf life, etc.

Triumph cat food is made in the United States by a company called Sunshine Mills. The brand was originally developed in 1949 by Omer Bullen and Fred Bostick Jr. At first, the brand operated as an animal feed company but shifted its focus to foods for cats and dogs in the 1960s and ‘70s. All its ingredients are sourced under the SQF certification program, which requires that food made for pets meets the same standards as food made for human beings.

While not all ingredients are sourced in the United States, they are sourced from reliable, safe producers around the world that are highly regulated and overseen. Triumph cat food is produced in United States manufacturing plants that are owned, operated, and overseen by the company. The brand is responsible for producing both wet and dry food for cats, packaged in cans, bags, containers, and pouches.

    Triumph Cat Food Reviewed

They sell their foods all over the planet and take pride in the quality and performance of its formulas. Based on our reviews, this brand is average when compared to the spectrum of options available on the market. It does offer quality ingredients, a taste that cats seem to love, and packaging that is easy to handle and manage.

However, Triumph cat food is not perfect. We go over everything that this brand has to offer, from its packaging to the ingredients and possible health repercussions. After reading this Triumph cat food review, you should have a clear idea of whether this is the right type of food for your beloved feline family member. 2Triumph Chicken 'N Liver Formula Canned Cat Food

What Kinds of Foods Are Offered?

Triumph cat food produces and sells many different types of flavors and varieties. There is at least one variety available for all life stages and multiple flavor/texture preferences to choose from. They are not all created equally, though. Let’s break down the different kinds of cat foods offered by Triumph.

    Wet Recipes

Triumph wet cat food comes in a variety of different, grain-free flavors to choose from. Each recipe has real meat or fish as the first ingredient and contains no by-products or artificial ingredients. This wet food comes in a pâté texture that is easy for kittens and senior cats to chow down on.:

Recipes available in the Triumph wet cat food line include
    • Chicken & Whitefish
    • Turkey & Giblets
    • Chicken & Beef
    • Chicken & Liver
    • Beef
    • Chicken
    • Turkey
    • Ocean Fish
    • Salmon
    • Trout

    Stew Recipes

Triumph produces a couple of stew formulas that basically consist of the wet food recipe but with added juices, which gives the food a stew-like consistency. Grain-free and full of flavor, Triumph stew recipes include protein broth and at least one protein as the first ingredient. Veggies may also be included.

Here are the currently available stew recipes offered by the Triumph brand:
    • Salmon & Sweet Potato
    • Turkey

    Meals of Victory

If you like to treat your cat like a king or queen, the “Meals of Victory” recipes offered by the Triumph brand might be just what you are looking for. This formula is not a stew, yet it is not quite a basic wet food blend. It has hardy chunks of protein that can be eaten as-is or used as toppers for dry food meals.

The formulas offered in the line include:
    • Chicken
    • Salmon
    • Seafood Medley
    • Liver

    Dry Recipes

The Triumph brand also produces dry food for cats that are formulated with complex carbohydrates, which are easy to digest, instead of starchy grains, which can result in digestion problems for cats.  Triumph’s dry cat food recipes are always made with real meat and meal and a host of healthy ingredients, such as beet pulp, lentils, flaxseed, and carrots.

Here are the recipes included in the dry food line:
    • Chicken & Vegetables
    • Salmon & Chickpeas
    • Ocean Whitefish & Eggs
    • Chicken & Brown Rice
    • Salmon & Sweet Potato

4Triumph Meals of Victory Chicken Recipe in Savory Juices Cat Food Trays

    Kitten Recipes

Triumph kitten food is developed to provide higher protein, vitamin, and mineral ratios than adult food to assist in rapid growth. While Triumph only produces wet formulas for kittens, each recipe can be added to dry food to help kittens transition to adult food.

There are only two kitten formulas available:
    • Seafood
    • Turkey

Which Types of Cats Is Triumph Cat Food Best Suited For?

All cats, no matter their age or breed, can enjoy Triumph cat food at mealtime because of the multiple different recipes available. Kittens can start eating the wet kitten formulas as soon as they are weaned from nursing, and they can move on to adult wet, stew, or dry food when the time comes without any problems. However, the Triumph brand produces grain-free formulas, so if a cat is switching to the brand from one that does include grains, a slow transition should be done to minimize the risk of digestive problems, such as diarrhea, constipation, and nausea.

What Are the Highlights & Downfalls of This Brand?

While there are many highlights of Triumph brand cat foods to explore, there are also downfalls that should not be overlooked. Here is what you should know.

    The Highlights

One of the biggest highlights of Triumph brand cat food is that real meat protein is always the first ingredient in its formulas. This brand is free of fillers such as corn, soy, and wheat. The ingredient lists are easy to read, and no recipe contains artificial colors, flavors, or additives. Each recipe is calorie-dense, which can help you save money on food as time goes on because your cat will need to eat less of it to get the nutrients that they need for good health and high quality of life.

    The Downfalls

Triumph brand cat food is not perfect by any means. First, the wet food recipes contain carrageenan, which is known to cause health problems in cats by means of intestinal inflammation and sometimes even cancer. This brand also includes more carbohydrates than other top-quality brands on the market, which could lead to obesity and other health conditions if servings are not carefully monitored. Also, both the dry and wet food options contain lower-than-average water contents. Therefore, cats may need access to more fresh drinking water to stay hydrated.

Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good & Bad)

The first ingredient found on the ingredients list that is printed on your cat’s food is the stuff that your furry family member will be consuming the most. Therefore, it is important to scrutinize the primary ingredients to see how they may affect your kitty’s health in the long run. Here is a rundown of the top ingredients found in Triumph brand cat food.

    Animal Protein

The first ingredient in most of Triumph’s recipes is an animal protein of some kind. The protein may come in the form of chicken, beef, turkey, or fish, but in any case, it is real meat, not meal or by-products. Animal protein is extremely important for the health of cats because cats are carnivores, and they receive the bulk of their nutrients from protein. A lack of protein can lead to amino acid deficiencies and serious health problems, including seizures and death. Triumph does not disappoint in the protein department.

    Guar Gum

Guar gum is typically added to certain wet cat foods, like those offered by the Triumph brand, to help bind the food and enhance the fiber source of the food product. Some human and animal studies have shown that guar gum helps reduce bad cholesterol levels while increasing glucose tolerance. However, some studies have shown that ingesting guar gum over time can slow a cat’s gastrointestinal movement. It may even result in the development of ulcers.

    Natural Flavors

Most of Triumph’s cat food recipes include natural flavors in the ingredients list. There is no definitive answer as to what the natural flavors are, where they are sourced from, or why they are even essential to the recipe. Some natural flavors may be derived naturally, while others may not be.

    Recall History

Triumph cat food has been recalled one time, which was in 2017. The recall involved the Ocean Fish canned cat food and was due to foreign material that was present in some cans of food. While this is the only recall that the Triumph brand has experienced, its parent company, Sunshine Mills, has issued several recalls throughout the years that have involved both cat and dog foods. The most notable recall was due to high amounts of vitamin D that resulted in pet health problems.

Reviews of the 3 Best Triumph Cat Food Recipes

    1. Triumph Ocean Fish Formula Canned Cat Food

1Triumph Ocean Fish Formula Canned Cat Food

This is a cat’s delight, made with real fish from the ocean, which is something that kitties cannot seem to resist the smell or taste of. As with most other recipes in this brand’s line, this food contains animal protein as the first ingredient. It comes in both small and large cans and can be capped or transferred to a reusable container for later use. Triumph Ocean Fish cat food is fragrant and contains a large amount of water to help keep your kitty hydrated throughout the day.

This wet cat food is easy to feed to kittens, adults, and seniors alike. While cats are carnivores, they can benefit from some fruits and vegetables when it comes to optimizing their nutrition intake. Unfortunately, this formula does not include any produce that could benefit a cat’s overall quality of life.

    Calorie Breakdown:

Triumph Ocean Fish Formula Cat Food Review

    Pros
    • Easy to digest
    • Made with real animal protein
    • Contains no artificial ingredients
    Cons
    • Provides a low water ratio, which could lead to dehydration problems

    2. Triumph Chicken & Liver Formula Canned Cat Food

2Triumph Chicken 'N Liver Formula Canned Cat Food

Chicken and liver are irresistible to cats of all ages. This formula will encourage kittens to transition into adult food and keep seniors eating even when they do not have a particularly strong appetite. This luscious recipe is velvety, easy to chew, easy to digest, and easy to store between servings. It’s made with real meat protein, fresh drinking water, and supplemental vitamins and minerals, so you can be sure that your cat will get all the nutrients that they need to maintain a happy and healthy life, no matter their age.

This is not much different than the other wet foods offered by this brand, aside from the distinctive flavors that it has to offer. Even though the food is “wet,” it does not contain much water content, so fresh, clean water should be accessible during feeding time. While the main ingredients are designed to offer optimal nutritional benefits, there are a few ingredients included (such as natural flavors and carrageenan) that should be seriously considered before making an investment decision.

    Calorie Breakdown:

Triumph Chicken And Liver Formula Cat Food Review

    Pros
    • Enticing to cats of all ages
    • Offers a full range of nutrients for optimal health

These meals are offered in single-serving packages and can be utilized as a full meal or as a topper to dry food, depending on the size, appetite, and preferences of the cat involved.

Not all cats like this flavor, but the ones that do cannot seem to get enough. Overall, this is a great addition to any full-time meal plan that you end up creating for your feline family member.
