    Recommended Pet Weight: 3–22 pounds

The best overall Christmas sweater for cats is this adorable mistletoe dress from Frisco that’ll make your kitty the prettiest and most popular pet at all holiday parties. It comes in many sizes, from X-small to XXX-large, so it’s appropriate for cats (and dogs) of all sizes. The pullover style is easy to get onto less-than-enthusiastic kitties, and its lightweight and breathable poly-cotton material makes your cat feel as comfortable as possible in the outfit.

Read the measurements in the size chart to ensure you’re getting the perfect size for your pet. There are reports of the sizing being a little difficult, so give yourself plenty of time to order the dress before Christmas if you need to return it.

    Pros
    • Pretty dress style
    • Different size options
    • Pullover is easy to get on
    • Breathable materials
    Cons

    Neck Size: 9–14 inches
    Materials: Acrylic, Plastic
    Recommended Pet Weight: 3–22 Pounds

If your wallet is feeling a little light after all your holiday shopping, you’re probably searching for the best Christmas sweater for cats for the money. This adorable ruffle sweater dress is affordable while maintaining the high quality we’ve come to expect from Frisco. It gives you the best of both worlds as it’s a sweater on top but a dress on the bottom.

This outfit is made with stretchy material, so it’s easy to put on even the wiggliest of kitties. The deep red and cream coloring are gorgeous for the winter season, and the pretty ruffle on the chest adds a little extra. There is even a leash hole at the back, so you don’t need to worry about losing your pet amidst all the holiday hullabaloo.

As with the previous Frisco product, carefully take your cat’s measurements to avoid disappointment.

    Pros
    • Pretty design
    • Stretchy materials
    • Comes with a leash hole
    • Easy to put on
    Cons
    • Sizing can be complicated

    3. Chilly Buffalo Plaid Sweater – Premium Pick

    Chilly Buffalo Plaid Sweater

    Closure Type: Pullover
    Neck Size: 9–14 inches
    Materials: Wool, Natural Fabric
    Recommended Pet Weight: 2–29 pounds

This adorable plaid sweater from Chilly Dog is our premium pick since the price is a bit higher, but it’s more than worth the cost. The beautiful sweater is hand-knit by Andean artists and is made with 100% natural and non-allergenic wool. It’s a durable and dirt-resistant outfit that’s better for the environment than mass-produced options.

The sweater gets its coloring from natural dyes made with plants and fruits. There are no harsh chemicals used in the production of this outfit. It’s quite warm, too, making it perfect for those cool winter nights. It comes in a variety of sizes from XX-small to XXX-Large. The sweater must be washed by hand and has no leash hole.

    Pros
    • Hand knit
    • Non-allergenic materials
    • Made with natural dyes
    • Plenty of size options
    Cons
    • Must be washed by hand
    • No leash hole

    4. Vehomy Christmas Reindeer Pet Sweater – Best for Kittens

    Vehomy Christmas Reindeer Pet Sweater

    Closure Type: Pullover
    Neck Size: 6.30–10.63 inches
    Materials: Acrylic
    Recommended Pet Weight: 2.5–16 pounds

This adorable patterned pullover sweater features a classic red design and cute reindeer. It has a double-knitted threaded cuff to keep your pet warm and an elastic and flexible hip belt to ensure optimal comfort. Its pullover design is easy to take on and off. It comes in sizes perfect for all cats, from a tiny kitten to a 16-pound adult.

The sweater is made with soft acrylic yarn, so it’s comfortable for your kitty to wear during Christmas morning photo ops. It is machine washable, but the manufacturer recommends handwashing it if possible.

    Pros
    • Soft materials
    • Adorable design
    • Warm neck cuff
    • Easy to take on and off
    Cons
    • Best to hand wash it

    5. Bolbove Pet Christmas Santa Claus

    Bolbove Pet Christmas Santa Claus

    Closure Type: Not specified
    Neck Size: 8–15 inches
    Materials: Not specified
Recommended Pet Weight: 5 to 15+ pounds

Turn your kitty into Santa Claus with this adorable Santa outfit from Bolbove. This unique sweater has leg holes in the front and fake arms to make your cat look like Jolly Old Saint Nick from the front. The back portion of the outfit fits like a cape and includes Santa’s black and gold belt to complete the look. Considering the high-quality construction, the material is soft and stretchy, and you can’t go wrong with the price.

The manufacturer does not provide information regarding the closure type or materials, which we think was a huge oversight. But the outfit is so cute that we had to include it on our list anyway.

    Pros
    • Adorable design
    • Stretchy material
    • Many size options
    Cons
    • No information available regarding materials

    6. BOBIBI Cat Sweater Christmas Santa Claus

BOBIBI Cat Sweater Christmas Santa Claus

    Closure Type: Pullover
    Neck Size: 9.1–17.3 inches
    Materials: Acrylic
    Recommended Pet Weight: N/A

This adorable red and white striped Christmas sweater is made with 100% acrylic yarn to provide a slightly elastic fit to keep your cat comfortable and warm. Its pullover design is simple to get on and off your pet, and since it is machine washable, it is effortless to care for.

The manufacturer has this sweater in a Santa or Reindeer design, so you can choose the image you prefer. If you aren’t wild about the red and white stripes, you can also select a black sweater with a Rudolph image on the back. The outfit is affordable, but it runs a bit large, so be sure to take accurate measurements.

    Pros
    • Pullover design
    • Warm
    • Stretchy materials
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Sizes run large

    7. Lanyarco Reindeer Pet Sweater

    Lanyarco Reindeer Pet Sweater

    Closure Type: Pullover
    Neck Size: 12–20 inches
    Materials: Acrylic
Recommended Pet Weight: 5 to 80+ pounds

Nothing says Christmas like a red and white reindeer patterned sweater. This adorable outfit from Lanyarco has a classic holiday design and is warm and comfortable for your cat. It is machine washable, so keeping it clean is simple. In addition, its pullover design is perfect for getting on and off easily.

There are reports that the sizing is a bit off. Some consumers said the sizes ran larger than expected, while others had the opposite experience. Be sure to place your order well in advance of the holidays so you have time to make a return if the sweater doesn’t fit as expected.

    Pros
    • Many size options
    • Acrylic materials are soft and warm
    • Easy to get on and off
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Sizing is off

    8. Frienda Christmas Cat Cloak with Star and Pompoms

    Closure Type: Tie- up
    Neck Size: < 12 inches
    Materials: Polar fleece
Recommended Pet Weight: < 11 pounds

This Christmas tree sweater is more of a cloak than a sweater, but it’s so cute that we had to include it in our list. The hat portion of the outfit is adorned with colored pom poms to convey that your cat is dressed like a Christmas tree. It’s made with a soft polar fleece material that is cozy and warm for your cat.

The material is also wear-resistant and durable, so your investment will last many holiday seasons. You can wash it either by hand or in your machine. The string around the neck can be adjusted to suit your cat’s neck circumference to find a comfortable fit. The tie around the neck can present a safety hazard, so you must constantly monitor your pet while they’re wearing this outfit.

    Pros
    • Comfortable materials
    • Adorable design
    • Machine washable
    • Neck size adjustable
    Cons
    • Necktie can be dangerous

Buyer’s Guide: How to Find the Best Christmas Sweaters for Cats

Buying the first Christmas sweater you fall in love with can be tempting, but you probably shouldn’t. A lot more should go into the decision-making process to ensure you’re spending your hard-earned money on a top-notch product and ensure your cat is comfortable and safe. Keep reading to find the factors you must consider before buying a sweater for your kitty.

    Materials

The material your cat’s Christmas sweater is made of will determine not only its comfort level but its longevity, too. Some materials are of higher quality and, therefore, longer lasting. Acrylic fabric is made of acrylic yarns that have been knitted or woven into a thicker and warmer material. It is very warm and insulating, which is why it’s such a popular pick for sweaters.

Acrylic is more affordable than wool but has similar characteristics. It is less breathable than other material choices and can be prone to pilling. In contrast, wool is a natural and renewable material. It’s warm, so it’s a no-brainer for people in colder climates, especially if you plan on having your kitty wear its sweater throughout the winter and not just during the holidays.

In addition, it’s a strong and elastic fabric with excellent moisture-wicking capabilities. The downside is that lower-quality wool can be itchy, which can be irritating for your pet. It is also prone to shrinking, so you must wash it carefully. Another option is to purchase cat clothes made of polyester.

Polyester is a durable and elastic material. It allows for freedom of movement, which can help clothing-averse cats feel a little more comfortable. It is mildew, chemical, and heat resistant, which expands its lifespan. Polyester dries quickly and is easy to care for since it can be tossed in the washing machine. The biggest downfall is that it isn’t very breathable, which can feel uncomfortable after wearing it for some time.

Finally, polar fleece is a soft, breathable, and durable material. It is designed to keep the wearer warm, so, like wool, it’s a great material if you live in a colder climate. However, the downside of fleece is that it’s not as durable or long-lasting since it is susceptible to pilling over time.

    Use

Before settling on the perfect Christmas sweater, you need to ask yourself what you plan on using it for. For example, do you plan to put your cat’s new sweater on for photos only and tuck it away for next year? Or do you plan on using it throughout winter to keep your pet warm?

If your goal is the latter, spend more time on your decision-making process. A sweater that will be used throughout the year’s colder months should be made with warmer and more durable materials (see our Materials section above). On the other hand, if you only want the sweater for cute Instagram pictures, you can choose any sweater since your kitty will only be in it for a short time.

    Size

Buying clothing for your cats online can be just as tricky as buying clothes for yourself. You must take accurate measurements to ensure you get the perfect size for your kitty. Most manufacturers provide size charts that include the back length, neck size, and chest girth measurements. All the sweaters above come in various sizes, so finding the perfect fit shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

We also recommend reading reviews from others who have purchased the same sweater to understand whether it fits true to size or runs smaller or larger than expected.
