Arrival Story:
Craig's ex roommate was at the vet's when Big Boy came in with a mashed off tail. Years later, Big Boy moved in with me and Craig. He's much happier now that he doesn't have to live with the other cat and fight for his food.

Bio:
Big Boy has a stubby tail, which he moves around exactly as if it were still full length. He also shakes his front paws when he drinks water. We have no idea why he does this, as they are not getting wet; it's just a tic, it seems. He's got kind of a ragged meow, which is quite loud when I enter the kitchen in the morning. Most of the time, he's my final wake-up call. If I've snoozed too many times, he'll quietly mew and knead biscuits on my head. I didn't used to like cats much, but I love this one to distraction. Big Boy has never scratched or bitten anyone, ever. Even when the dogs try to "play" with him, he swats them with his claws in. He doesn't do that annoying serpentining-around-your-ankles thing. On November 4th, 2005, Big Boy was diagnosed with chronic renal failure (kidney disease). We are giving him subcutaneous injections every morning. Please wish good things for Big Boy! Big Boy went on to bigger and better things this morning, September 26, 2007. He had chronic renal failure, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, a heart murmur, and anemia, and still wolfed down the kitty Greenies at the last hour. We will miss the hell out of him. He was one of the gentlest souls we've ever known. Go on and lay on God's newspaper while he's reading it, buddy! We'll find you again.

Highly recommended vet

Well, seems I'm so special that I get to switch from my regular vet to an internist! Nothing but the best for me! Everyone at Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group is great, AND they're 24 hours. They're not a regular vet, but they have specialists, and are right off the Bergen F/G stop. http://www.vetemergencyreferral.com/

Let's see now...

June 23rd 2007 9:59 pm   [link to this entry]

1. hyperthyroid
2. hypertensive
3. heart murmur
4. chronic renal failure

On the other hand:
1. treats three times a day!
2. Dad
3. Mom
4. wet food

Ok, I'll stick around a little longer.

Whoa. What the hell?

Why is it getting darker and darker? Who moved the furniture? Why am I going to the vet at 3am? Why am I getting more treats?

Big Boy went blind somewhat suddenly last weekend. We took him to an emergency vet, who diagnosed detached retinas from hypertension. It's possible that he had a "thyroid storm" as well.

Our regular vet sucks. Does anyone know of a good vet in the Ditmas Park, Brooklyn area? Or one that is easily reachable by B or Q trains?
