Arrival Story:
In the winter of 1995 we heard a cat crying outside in the blizzard we were having. I went out and found a cat, cold and shivering. He would not come to me right away, but eventually, after a few days he did. He was wearing a collar, so I assumed he was living with someone and I left a note attached to the collar. Someone finally did contact me, but it was obvious he did not care about Thomas. Also, Thomas was not neutered. I talked the man into letting me have Thomas neutered. Afterward, he started hemmoraging and had to have emergency surgery. That's when they discovered he had asthma. We were told he could not be an outdoor cat anymore and had to take medication. It was very obvious that Thomas wanted to live with us, because before all this, he kept breaking into our house.

Bio:
Thomas is a one-person cat. As good as my husband has been to him, Thomas will not allow Daddy to hold him or do very much for him. Thomas is very good about taking his asthma medication. When it is time, he comes looking for me if I am not in the room. When I sit on the couch, Thomas comes and curls up next to me and takes his pill and the 2 inhalers without any trouble. Everyone is amazed when they see that. (June 2006) Thomas has not been doing very good about taking his inhalers. As long as Daddy was here taking his, Thomas was good. But since Daddy is gone, Thomas has changed. (March 2007) It was found that Thomas has a very slow clotting problem. If he eats dry, crunchy food, it "cuts" into his mouth and bleeds. Thomas can no longer have dry food, only canned or soft foods.

Thomas had to leave us May 24, 2010.
I will never forgive myself, I feel as if it was my fault. He was having problems with his asthma, but no one would give me a ride to the animal hospital. Finally, 1 person said she would give me a ride, but it had to be the next morning. I had to watch Thomas suffer all night.
As soon as we entered her car, I realized it was a mistake. I forgot she was a smoker! So while Thomas was having difficulty breathing due to his asthma, the cigarette smoke that lingered in her car finished it for Thomas. He died on the way to the animal hospital.
