Arrival Story: Believe it or not, this is the short version of Aldo's story: Aldo was living a happy life in Florida with his kittysister Tess and his doggysister Noelle. Their mommy's name was Laurel. A huge animal lover, she loved all of her furkids a lot. One night in May 2008, Laurel went to sleep and didn't wake up, and her beloved furkids were suddenly orphans. She didn't have a will and had not made provisions for her furbabies in case anything happened to her. Because of this, her belongings--and her babies--fell into the hands of a relative who had no interest in them. Aldo and Tess escaped from the house in all the confusion, and Noelle the dog was taken to animal control. Enter the amazing Hazel Lucy and her mommy Julie. (Is that the Bat Signal in the sky??) The instant that they discovered what had happened, they immediately took charge at "mission control" in Pennsylvania and the wheels began to turn--quickly. While Julie made hundreds of phone calls from her home and spent several sleepless nights discovering every detail she could dig up, a team consisting of Florida Catsters; Luis, one of Laurel's oldest friends; and Margaret Martinroe of Kitty City/Homeless Hounds swung into action. Noelle was sprung from animal control and taken to Dogster Mollie's house for fostering; shortly thereafter, a new home was found for her in New Mexico (see her new page here). Using Margaret's traps and super-stinky (irresistible!) cat food, Luis and Margaret were able to trap Aldo, and Margaret took him to the vet to be cared for. The stress of it all caused much of little Aldo's fur to fall out; that's how he ended up with those big bald spots. The neighborhood was searched day after day; everyone looked under bushes, around houses, in every conceivable spot that a kitty could hide, but Tess still has not been found. She may have been taken home by someone and we hope fervently that she is safe and loved. The search continues for her. Aldo was fostered at the home of Gimme, Ele', and Ambro and their mommy Sue Lyn for a few weeks. Plans were made to fly Aldo up here to Baltimore to join our family, but airline regulations for animals being rather random and odd, the first leg of Aldo's journey--from Orlando to Atlanta--would have him in an air-conditioned cargo hold...but the second leg from Atlanta to Baltimore would not. He would be allowed to fly only if the temperature in both cities was 85 degrees or cooler at the time of takeoff. Well, we knew that it was going to be near 100 degrees in Baltimore that day, so that meant that poor Aldo might get stuck in Atlanta!!! That just couldn't happen! So, plans were changed to fly me down to meet Sue Lyn in the Orlando airport, hop right back on another plane, and fly Aldo back in the cabin. (There are more details of Aldo's story in O'Malley's diary.) WHEW!! Let me tell you, furpals, this was one heck of a rescue. The determination of Julie, Sue Lyn, Luis, Margaret, and so many others was unfailing. You can read about it as it unfolded in Hazel's diary. Scroll down to May 18, 2008 and read your way back up. Love can--and did--build a bridge, my furiends!
Bio: After settling in, Aldo has proven to be a real snugglemuffin. He loves laying on my lap or on my chest while we watch TV. He particularly likes HGTV. :-) He is quiet and gentle and loves having his face washed by his fursiblings. He also loves to chase his furbrothers--and have them chase him. I can always tell when he's ready for a nap, because he'll jump up in a window first, take a look around, and then jump down to find a place to curl up. It's like he's making sure it's all still there before he goes to sleep.

Mom walked all the way to her friend's house (3 miles round trip!), and the kitties we're sitting have full tummies and fresh water and many hugs! She's gotta do it again tomorrow, 'cause the streets and alleys are still buried. And guess what? The weather forecast is calling for more snow on Wednesday. Argh!
I sure hope we can get that car out soon, 'cause this is our opportunity to fetch buckets of kitty litter and bags of kibbies and lots of canned noms!
Everycat purr for warm sunshine over Baltimore, okay?
Well, I wanted to see some snow, but this is ridiculous! One of my mommy's friends is on a long trip and she let us have her car while she's gone. But now the car is gone! There's nothing left but a white lump! We have two feeties of snow and it's still snowing. Mom has to walk a mile and a half in hip-high snow to feed her friend's kitties. There's no way we'll get that car out, and even if we did, the streets have disappeared, too. When we got up this morning, there was no DirecTV signal, 'cause the dish is buried!
I want to say thank mew to my girl Smokey for the nice warm cup of cocoa for my page. She was asking after me and making sure I was okay. She is a very sweet girl. Did you know that it's summer in Afurica? I bet she's napping in a sunpuddle right about now. Mmmm...that sounds very nice!
I gotta go direct a little bit of shoveling. I hope you are all snuggly warm today!
The angel Mea tagged me in the Valentine game. Mea asked ...
1. Do you have a Valentine?... If so... who?
Yes, I do! Other than my mommy, who is the girl I love the very mostest, my valentine is Miss Smokey, a gorgeous, plush young lady who lives in South Afurica.
2. If not... do you wish you did? ... Is there anyone particular?... Or would you rather be single? ...Why?
I would definitely not prefer to be single. I'm one lucky house panther!
3. What's your favorite love song?
"At Last" by Etta James. It's very romantic for dancing. It's one of Purresident Obama's furvorites, too!
4.What would be a perfect Valentine's Day for you?
After sharing a candlelight meal of Halo's Spot's Stew, curling around my Smokey in my soft heated kitty cup, and purring off to sleep.
