Behind the fireplace.

It's getting cold down here near the bottom of the world. The dogs have been inside a lot more in their crates in the living room, so they haven't been that much fun to tease.

Ali's latest trick is to run into the house first thing in the morning when daddy's alarm goes off. She runs to the bedroom door and meows very loudly outside it.
This causes a huge disturbance with Holly and Xena who sleep in mommy and daddy's room at night. They bark and try and jump through the door - until daddy yells at them in his grumpiest voice, telling them off.
Ali runs back down the hallway and out the catdoor where we both watch Holly and Xena appear in the hallway with daddy who very firmly orders them not to run down the hallway to the catdoor - ha ha!

I have found the most fabulous way to tease the dogs now.
The room that has mommy and daddy's desks in has a lot of boxes of things they have in storage at the moment as well as both of their desks. It's precious things mommy has packed up so as it doesn't get broken in all the earthquakes we've been having.
Anyway, the old fireplace in this room isn't really a fireplace anymore - it's just for show and was demolished when the house was moved. There's this big space in the wall behind it, and yours truly has discovered that a kitty can climb in behind it, but a doggy can't! He he!

Mommy was cross with me the first time Xena and Holly tried to dismantle the big old wooden surround fireplace to stop me meowing at them. She got me out, slapped my bottom and put me out the door.
"Naughty Chloe!" she scolded me.
Now she just tells Xena and Holly off for trying to climb into the back of the fireplace, and she's even put a rug in there for me to sleep on!
As a cat it is most satisfying seeing two grown German Shepherds sitting over the other side of the room watching the fireplace, all the while knowing that if they move anywhere near the fireplace they will incur the wrath of mommy - he he!

Maybe winter isn't such a boring time of year after all!

My Letter To Santa

Dear Santa,

I've been a very good girl this year, even mommy and daddy say so. Daddy was particularly pleased with me when I ran over to him last night with a mousie in my mouth.

If you receive information from the dogs in my family, please don't believe a word of it. I have never teased a dog in my life!
There must be some other cat in my neighborhood that looks just like me. Shame on that cat for teasing my wonderful family dogs!
You will ofcourse receive a written report from Crystal disputing these awful rumors that I am the one teasing the dogs. I snuggle up to Crystal in her dog run on many a cold winter night amongst the sleeping bags in her bed, and I even clean those big German Shepherd ears of hers for her.

I'd really like a new catnip mouse this Christmas please, and also some of those tiny little dried fish treats if you have them - so yummy.

I suppose the thing I'd really like this Christmas though is this - my Christmas wish is that lots of people will give money to my local kitty rescue organization called "Cats Unloved." The people who volunteer at "Cats Unloved" work tirelessly, for very long hours rescuing kitties from life threatening situations sometimes. I might not be here if it wasn't for those wonderful, kind people who give so much of themselves so selflessly.
"Cats Unloved" place rescued kitties into wonderful foster homes and then place them in loving forever homes.

So, please Santa, remember all the kitties in the foster homes at "Cats Unloved" on Christmas Eve too, when you bring our pawresents.

Love and purrrrrssssssssss, Chloe. x x x x x x x x x x x

Rumor has it...............................

Once I got past all the fleas on Catster today and finally managed to get to where I wanted to, I discovered that my furiend Sassy was Diary Daily Pick today. Concatulations to Sassy, I hope she has a very special day.

Rumor has it that the fat man in the red suit is plotting his annual pilgrimage around the world in 24 hours on December 25th again. I sure hope he comes to this girl's house and leaves me the usual stash of catnip mice, dried fish treats, the small tins of gourmet catfood, and some fresh Christmas ham.
What would we do if he never came? Perish that thought.

Anyway, I sure hope that my mommy has given up on her crazy Christmas morning idea of - "Let's put the kitty Santa Hat on Chloe and take a picture of her opening her presents under the Christmas Tree!"
So far I have managed to hiss my way out of such and all the photos have turned out to be blurred! Shame on mommy for such ridiculous behavior!

We're expecting more German Shepherd's in our house in about 12 days time - god forbid that we don't have enough! Still, I suppose it means more dogs to tease for me and Ali! He he!
I think the kitty Santa Hat can be donated to the puppies, and mommy can satisfy her desire to dress unsuspecting animals up in it as much as she wants with those little cuties.

I would like to thank all of my dear furiends who sent me concatulations and best wishes on my Diary of The Day just recently. Of particular mention is my dear furiend Pigeon, the nicest of felines, and all the admins at Kewlest Catster Kitties.

My week has been most mundane and uneventful until this evening. I've caught more than my share of mousies, teased the family dogs mercilessly, stole Ali's food, and basked in the sun on the front verandah while I watched the world go by.
As many of you know I live down near the bottom of the world in earthquake territory, and since the big one we had on Sept 4th we've had over 3,000 aftershocks.
It's been fairly quiet the past week and then things heated up again the past 24hrs.
Last night when I was out hunting there was a fair sized shake.

Tonight mommy had just finished feeding the dogs when her daughter called her on Skype. Ali and I had been fed earlier - cats being more important than dogs of course.^=*=^
Daddy was shifting some horses out in the paddocks, and I had decided to retire for the evening on mommy's pot plant at the backdoor. Mommy is never happy about my using this potplant as a bed. I feel she should be grateful I have not clawed the trunk of the Feijoa tree, and that I have left at least one of her ornamental leafy plants growing in the pot!
Anyway I was curled up in a ball washing my paw as I watched daddy walking a young horse across the large shingle area at the back of our house when the whole house started to shake.
I sat up with a start and then the ground started to roll in waves, the trees shook and the cars wobbled from side to side.
Soon it stopped, I lay back down, daddy walked the horse past the backporch, and I went to sleep.
I guess we're getting used to the ground shaking down here.

It's my fursis Ali Cat's birthday today.
She's mighty pleased about that because it meant she was taken inside by herself and given a special treat for her breakfast - a whole grilled chicken breast!
Where's mine mommy? Surely it must be my birthday today too!

Christmas wishes.

Spring is here.

Well, spring is here and the mousies are out in force.
Not much happened over the winter for Ali and I. It was cold and it snowed quite a bit.
The master and mistress had lots of visitors staying over the winter and I slept in the guest room bed with them. I had so many offers of other homes from those I snuggled up to real close under the duvet with. Most of them wanted at least one of my kittens - Ha I won't be having kittens cause I'm speyed:)
Anyway the weather is getting warmer now and there are so many mousies about I'm out hunting 24/7 at the moment - unlike Ali. Ali doesn't eat as much as me, and some days I can't even be bothered eating my dinner - I just leave it for Ali:):):):):)

A short trip.

Nothing much has been happening here lately. The mousies have all disappeared and the birds are impossible to catch with that bird feeder thing.
Ali and I were lying in the sun this afternoon when we noticed that the master and mistress visitors had left their car door open.
"Why don't we go and visit someone else's house?" I mewed as I washed my paws.
Ali twitched her whiskers and looked at the open car door.
"Would that be a safe thing to do?" she asked.
"Of course it would be," I mewed. "It would be an adventure. It would be exciting. They might have fat juicy mousies at their house."
And so Ali and I climbed into the car and hid behind the back seat.
The visitors got into the car and we drove away down the road.
We'd been driving for quite a while when Ali stood up and put her paws on the back of the woman's seat.
"What's that?" the woman gasped in shock.
"It's a cat!" the man gasped.
We were returned home in a hurry.
Next time I'm not going to invite Ali - cause she gave it all away:(:(:(

The bird feeder.

Hmmm.......................... it's been a while since I updated my diary. In fact it's been over two weeks.
The past two weeks have seen balmy weather, severe frosts, the first fall of snow and a mass exodus of mousies into the old sheds.
Ali and I have been dining continuously on the most sumptuous feasts of mousie casserole, roast mousie, mousie fricasse, mousie du foie, mousie with fries, mousie cordon bleu, mousie kebabs, and last but not least mousie sushi ( for the figure conscious feline).
However, the sumptuous overindulgence of mousies by Ali and myself has led to a sudden scarcity of such delicacy so we have started to focus on the bird feeder hanging in the weeping cherry blossom tree in the front garden.
The mistress goes and places a mix of fat and bird seed in there every couple of days --------------- for the poor wee hungry birdies ------- ha haa, what a joke!
The master scolds her on a daily basis.
"How much money does that bird seed cost when we don't even own a bird?" AND "You're mixing it with butter! How much is does a block of butter cost?" AND "The dogs need the fat from the roast, not the birds."
Ali and I just smile to each other knowingly as we listen to the master scolding the mistress for her totally misinformed, rebellious, misguided bird feeding ways. Doesn't this stupid woman realise that if the planet was rid of birds who compete with humans for edible crops, the mousie population would increase more than ten fold? That would mean that Ali and I would dine on a continuous supply of mousie casserole over the winter months, rather than just feasting on them for a couple of weeks, as is the case now.
The mousies are GONE, CASSEROLED, ROASTED, FRICASSED TO DEATH (so to speak) in a couple of weeks - mousie du foie is but a pleasant memory.
Ali and I are now reminiscing about the mousies as we sit under the rather long verandah that covers the north facing front of our house and stretches down the east and west sides.
Here down under, on the bottom of the earth (so to speak) the sun still rises in the east and sets in the west, but as it travels annually between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn our directions are opposing to those of you in the northern hemisphere.
The north side of a house down here is the sunny side, and the cold mean winter winds blow from the south. The water down here runs clockwise down the drain, whereas it runs anticlockwise in the northern hemisphere.
So, now, because of the mousie shortage Ali and I are sitting on the west facing side of the verandah.
"Do you know how to catch birds?" Ali mews very quietly.
I gaze out silently observing all the birds swooping swiftly down and landing on the bird feeder. The tree limb it hangs from is very young and supple so that it bows down under the weight of the birds - just out of range of any high leaping athletic cat! The limb it hangs from also doesn't have enough strength in it to support the weight of even the smallest cat.
"Do you think if we meow loudly enough the mistress will feed us more because its winter now?" I mewed in reply.
Ali just raised her eyebrows and twitched her whiskers as we both gazed out from under the verandah to feeding frenzy of the birds at the bird feeder.
