Our Life with Out Miss Kitty

It's that time again.

MLK day always marks a sad anniversary in our household. It was about four years ago that we had to say good-bye to our first pet we had together. Miss Kitty was the Alpha female, to be sure. She ruled our place with an iron paw. She was very strict about bed time. When it was time to go to bed, you knew it; and there was no dismissing her. I miss that. We are not as disciplined about bedtime; and probably have not slept as well because of it. She only had one vice, and that was shrimp. Boy, did she love shrimp. I have yet to meet a kitty since who loved shrimp the way she did. Sometimes when we went to Costco for shrimp, we'd get extra for her. It probably wasn't all that good for her, but we didn't do it all the time. But she was special. Our special little girl. To say we miss her is an understatement. Even after four years have passed, we still think about her. We still mention her when something comes up that reminds us of her. It may not as be as often, but there is no forgetting our "Miss Kitty."

Almost three years

Yesterday was a very important day. Not only was it Martin Luther King Jr.'s Day; I was reminded that three years on MLK day, our beloved Miss Kitty left us. While the actual date is different, it's hard not to associate that day with her passing. And, once again, my heart filled with tears at the passing of our 'baby-girl.' But, I have to remind myself that her passing allowed us to give another unwanted cat a forever home. Her spirit continues to live with us, and for that; and the wonderful memories & pictures, we are greatful.

Two Years and a day

It's been two years and a day since our beloved Miss Kitty left us. The pain has finally subsided. But there is still not a moment that doesn't go by that we don't think about her. Her passing has allowed us to give another shelter kitty a chance at a new life. Our other cat, Todd, became so depressed and despondent that we decided it was time in introduce him to a new playmate. "Evelyn" was brought home in December of 2009, and has helped restore that balance that was lost with Miss Kitty's departure. Although she may look a lot like her, Evelyn has her own personality that has really blossomed over the year. We love her immensely, and she truly has become part of our family. Life goes on, but Miss Kitty will always be in our hearts.
