Arrival Story: I was looking on Craigslist for a cat to adopt and ended up with this crazy stray. My roommate and I learned from the woman who took her in that someone had dumped Elphie on Roosevelt Island. Apparently this happens frequently and there are a ton of strays there. Elphie lived with her finders for a few weeks, but they already had 2 cats and lived in a small Manhattan apartment near Wall Street. So she came to Brooklyn to join our family instead. Elphie was at home within five minutes and walked around the apartment like it was her own. I was lucky to find such a wonderful cat to adopt.

Bio: Elphie likes to randomly pee on things. We don't know why. She is a real goon sometimes.

Elphie is spending the Summer with my Aunt Ellen in South Jersey. I'm going to miss her so much. I already do. But if things work out she may be with my aunt to stay. They have a Summer schedule already. Get up at 5:30 to be fed. Make coffee, read paper together. Then retreat to the family room for Price is Right and the news, which includes sitting on Aunt Ellen's lap and being pet relentlessly. Not to mention the 3 bedroom + basement + sitting room + family room house Elphie now has to explore. She already returned to her favorite nap spot- the walk in closet. Along with her best viewing points- the window where she can spy on two dogs and the glass door where she watches squirrels and birds. Yeah, I think she'll have a good time. But I know we'll all miss her. Especially Mr. Tanukis.

Well, Elphie wasn't very happy at first that we adopted Tanuki but she seems to be doing a little better now. The first week was full of hissing, pouncings, and one scratch on the end of Tanuki's nose. Now they are able to eat side by side and the hissing has mostly subsided. Hopefully Elphie will come to love him and not get so angry at his kitten ways.
