Arrival Story:
I was volunteering at a feral cat spay/neuter clinic one weekend -we did about 50-70 surgeries a day. We had given the initial shot on anesthesia to Minerva to knock her out enough to pull her out of the humane trap. When we pulled her out, we saw her back right leg bone just hanging out of her leg, her foot & lower leg completely cut off. After talking to the person who was managing that colony, we learned it was next to a golf course and she was the second cat to show up with a leg partially cut off. Despite leg hold traps being illegal in VA, we're pretty sure that's what happend to those two cats. The other cat died from infection of his wounds before he could be trapped but Minerva seemed generally healthy other than her leg injury. We couldn't send her back to her feral colony in that condition so we spayed her and I took her home with me. My vets determined her leg bones were pretty badly damaged from the trap & she was missing a lot of the skin & muscle on her lower leg. The best bet for Minerva was an amputation on her back right leg. That was 4 years ago - she pogos around the house now, happy as can be.

Bio:
I had originally tried to adopt Minerva out but she was semi-feral. Any stranger coming over to look at her was greeted by "The Monster Under the Bed." Although she was friendly with me, it was a different story when an adopter came to visit her. Minerva would flee to the bedroom, scoot under the bed and commence with unearthly hissing & growling sounds until the potential adopter left. Funny, nobody wanted to adopt my little monster... I adopted her instead and the rest, as they say, is history.
