Arrival Story: Mischa was sent to live with us by Oliver, our little angel at the Bridge, because he knew that we were lonely and that his brother, Marty, needed a playmate.
We adopted her from Homeward Trails Animal Rescue in Arlington, VA during an adoption fair at PetMac in Arlington. Mischa came to Homeward Trails from a shelter and she was fostered by a really sweet woman who changed her name from "Cubbie" to Mischa (yay!).
We recognized her immediately - we bent down to look at a cage with four little kitties in it and Mischa reached through the cage and grabbed my hand and squeaked at me. We took her out and spent some time alone with her and she crawled onto my shoulder and started purring like a little Motorboat. We knew she was meant to come home with us. There was a little concern about sending her to a home without a kitten, since she is VERY energetic, but we knew that her pep would invigorate Marty and that once he got used to her, he'd be able to keep up with her.
Her first day in our home was Thursday, August 2, 2008. Her lucky popsy got to work from home on Friday to take care of her, while poor mumsy had to go into work.
Bio: Mischa has an obsession with paper products and she is ridiculously strong. One day we woke up and discovered that all the toilet paper in both bathrooms had been pulled off the roll and shredded. Little bits of paper towel and Kleenex mysteriously appear all over the floor every morning. After she was spayed and ostensibly groggy from the surgery, she grabbed a roll of paper towels horizontally in her mouth like a dog carrying a bone and walked across the house with it in her mouth! Recently she has taken to leaving us "gifts" of balled up, shredded toilet paper and Kleenex on the bed and in front of doors.
Mischa & Marty's Meeting: When she first came home, she was not at all scared, but Marty was terrified of her! We kept them separate and set up a fort for her in the office with all the necessary accoutrements and lots of fun toys. They quickly started sniffing each other under the door, with Marty doing a lot of hissing! Pretty soon though, Marty became more curious then scared and started breaking into her room! Once that happened, we knew they were going to be buddies. - Aug. 2007
Mischa's Weird Affection Issues: Mischa loves to be petted - but only in certain locations. These being - her cat fort in the office closet, the bathroom, and the office, particularly on top of the cat tree. In most other places, she will generally run from us if we try to pet her. She also likes to be moving constantly when you pet her - she will circle us, begging for more. - Jan. 2008
Mumsy is a little late in posting 'bout my first Christmas...she apologizes.
It was great - there was paper everywhere and me and Marty got so many toys! The best of which is a set of cubes that link together to make tunnels! TUNNELS! Love it! I've been spending so much time sleeping in the tunnels, playing with Marty - jumping on top of the tunnels, running through them, chasing the little strings inside of the cubes.... The best is when Mumsy puts the ball-in-the-track toy right outside one of the cube openings and then I can stalk that ball with total freedom! It never sees me coming! Heh, heh, sneaky girl....
We also got a new camera from the grandpawrents that I have not met - Marty broke the old one somehow, so mumsy couldn't take pictures (Marty hates the paparazzi!), but now we are back in business and mumsy will be posting more pictures of us soon. And pictures of the awesome tube cube, so the pawrents of other kitties can start getting ideas!
I had another trip to the vet for a check-up on my incision from spaying. Mumsy took me all by herself, which was a big deal b/c she hates to drive! We did all right, me and mumsy. I am looking good, but I have another week's worth of antibiotic, just in case!
I am on medicine that tastes like bananas. I am doing ok, but at my recheck from the vet they said that I had a little discharge from my incision, so I am on antibiotics for a few days just to make sure that I will be ok.
I HATE IT! I don't trust mumsy and popsy anymore - at certain hours of the day, I just know that they are going to come after me with the bananas and I run and hide. But they always find me and I always have to eat banana medicine in the end, no matter how much I struggle.
