Arrival Story:
It was a miserable, soggy December. During Christmas break, each morning when I went outside to pick up my newspaper from the porch I heard a cat meowing softly. Determined not to have a pet, I resisted -- for a day or two. But the next morning, the skies were dumping buckets of water, and when I picked up the paper, I called out "Kitty?" Immediately, a sweet, shy, wet gray cat came slinking up onto the porch. I checked around the neighborhood and asked at several vets' offices, but no owner claimed her, and besides, I had fallen in love with this waif.
Bio:
It took approximately 3 weeks to "discover" Emily's name. Waiting for some behavioral clue, I noticed that her most active moments consisted of impersonating a gray, furry doorstop/statue. She never did much of anything "cat-like" -- no scratching furniture, no hopping on the kitchen counter, no wild midnight running and romping through the house. It became overwhelmingly obvious that etiquette ("catiquette"?) is central to her personality -- thus, her name: Emily (Post).
