Arrival Story:
Jingle was not only one of the favorite cats of my childhood, he was one of the favorites of my lifetime. A little stray calico cat showed up at our house. She was pregnant. On May 10, 1954, she gave birth to two kittens in our basement. There was a yellow striped shorthair that we named Dizzy and a gray and white longhair that we called Jingle. My Mother took the little calico to the pound as soon as she weaned the kittens. Jingle and Dizzy were added to the ever growing list of my Mother's feline victims. Yes, I admit it. Though I'm a senior citizen myself, I still have issues with what Mother did with my pets. She believed that it was cruel to keep a cat in the house. Consequently, I lost a lot of pets. Dizzy didn't even see his 1st Birthday. Mom said someone poisoned him. In retrospect, I think he was poisoned by antifreeze in our garage where he was made to sleep. Heaven forbid that a cat should sleep in the house!! Jingle lived to be an adult. He was neutered and moved with us to a new home in 1955. He was the cutest cat. He had adorable markings. He looked like milk was dribbling from his chin. Jingle disappeared once and was gone for a couple of weeks. We thought he might have been shut in someone's garage while they were on vacation. I was in High School and Jingle was about 5 years old when he disappeared, never to be seen again. I was devastated. For years, every time I would catch a glimpse of a longhaired gray cat, I would think it was him. Finally, enough years passed that I knew he couldn't possibly be alive, but he'll always live in my heart. When I finally left my parents household, I swore I'd never let another pet cat go outdoors.
