Arrival Story:
My Husband worked for the Gates Rubber Co. This cat lived at the old rubber factory. According to the employees, he had been there about 7 years. It was always believed that he was a feral cat because nobody could approach him. One of the carpenters on the evening shift always fed him. One day, he burned himself on a piece of machinery and all of a sudden, he wanted to be with his caretaker. He was actually a socialized cat. Nobody knows why he avoided people all of those years. The plant was closing and the craftsmen were being laid off one by one. When the man who fed Shorty lost his job, we brought Shorty home. Shorty was a completely tailless cat, not even a fragment of a tail. Sometimes he would defecate in his sleep and not be aware of it. I'm sure it had something to do with his lack of a tail and it was probably why he ended up homeless in the first place. It certainly wasn't a problem to us. He was with us until he died of liver disease on 7-31-05.
