Arrival Story: My daughter, Becca, worked at the Oregon Humane Society and I would go in on weekends and help clean the cattery. One morning when I arrived she was all excited and hurried me into the backroom where new cats where kept. She showed me a dilute tortie laying in the back of the kennel. It looked like a hundred other torties so I said, "Yeah, she's cute, what about her?" I'm thinking, "She's pretty but what's all the excitement about?" Becca turns to me and says, "It's not a she. " I looked at her and my mouth fell open. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. I have been a cat lover all my life and never thought I'd see a tri-color male. I had heard how rare they were. In fact many people think they don't exsist because a true full tri-color male kitten is usually stillborn or doesn't live more than a few hours after birth.
Before me , stretched out comfortably in the kennel was a healthy, living, one year old dilute tortie male. This was amazing! Even more amazing, someone had brought him into the Oregon Humane Society because they had too many cats. Needless to say, I inquired about adoption immediately. I waited for hours at the Humane Society for a first hold to decide if they wanted him. Finally Beau was mine. Five years later, as I write this amazing story I am still filled with wonder and love for this amazing cat. I adopted him because of his physical appearance, but very quickly loved him for his wonderful personality. He is extremely social and affectionate. He loves people and loves to show off his thumbs and beautiful girly coat!

Bio: Beau is a genetic miracle. He is a dilute tortie, but also has some full orange and black. He was a full functioning, sperm producing male (before he was neutered) with no female parts except his girlish coloring (shown by cat-scan ). Most tri-color males have some female parts and cannot produce sperm. He also has a 6th toe on each front paw. The dewclaw moved down into the place of a thumb and he seems to be able to use them as opposable thumbs.

Lives Remaining: 6 of 9
