My beloved Max is gone. He passed away on June 3 at about 2:15 p.m.
He had been hospitalized for a week, and I took him home on Wednesday. I knew that there was a chance he wouldn't make it, but I thought I had a lot more time with him.
He purred while I held him and then chose to lay down in the bathroom. I put a towel under him for comfort. Max would purr every time I walked into the bathroom.
But he didn't purr the next morning. I gave him his meds and rushed to work. I returned home and took care of the dogs first. When I checked him, I saw immediately that he was dead.
I will always miss this dear sweet boy who loved me more than anything.
He was 15 years old and I had him since he was a kitten ... so this is very hard. And now his older sister, Callie, is sick and is hiding. Since Max's vet bill is very high (and I still have to pay that off), I don't know how I can afford to take her to the vet.
To lose both of them so closely together will be so hard.

I've been kinda sick. I've gotten skinnier and skinner--and I'm the one Mom used to call her Big Fat Kitty.
Mommy had a lot on her hands. Here's I'm skinny and looking kinda lousy and then Parker, my golden retriever brother, decided to have lots of seizures and get hospitalized!
Anyway, Mom took Callie and me to the vet. Callie needs a dental and it turns out that I'm hyper-thyroid! So she's giving me transdermal meds and it's working. I've gained a least a pound!

For those of you asking for an update…. here it is! Truly, wow is all I can say! Thanks to all of you, so far 25 of the original 30 dogs from the “last chance” email sent on Jan. 4th have found permanent or foster homes. Thank you to everyone who has read, forwarded and responded by coming out to BARC to adopt or foster a homeless animal. You truly have saved lives! Kind of restores your faith in mankind, now doesn’t it?
Could we make it 100%? The 5 dogs remaining are Mojo, Dusty, Toto, Tawny and Ginger. In addition, there are 9 other dogs at the cut-off date, which did not make my original email due to my limited time and photography skills. This certainly was no fault of these dogs..... This email is their last and only chance. I’ve added their photos to this file. That makes 14 TOTAL dogs that need out by Monday, JAN 8th at 5pm. If you are interested in one of these dogs, but absolutely can’t make it on Monday to the shelter, BARC has allowed us to place holds on them until this FRIDAY, JAN. 12th. That is the absolute deadline for holds and it cannot be extended.
Can you help save one of these dogs???? Please double click on the photos and read the comments for a little more information. Don't hesitate to email or call us for more information.
As I said before, these dogs will require some extra love and attention. Being in a shelter for several months causes many dogs to become distrustful of humans and overprotective of food or toys. For those of you who have or will give these dogs a chance, remember this: "The basic period of adjustment can be anywhere from
six to twelve weeks. If you're committed you'll get there. Go into
this with your eyes open...and then stand back and marvel at the transformation. It will knock your socks off!" (from "Second Hand Dog", Carol Lee Benjamin)
For only $55 you can adopt one of these dogs. You also can provide foster care to prevent them from euthanasia. However, please do not take on a foster if you cannot commit to keeping the animal until a permanent home is found.
BARC is the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care
It is located at 3200 Carr St., Houston, TX 77026
The shelter is open Mon-Fri from 10-5:30 and Sat/Sun 12-4.
Thanks again for reading and forwarding. Together, we've made a difference to these lost souls.
Thank you,

Picked this up from MB. Thank you for helping get the word out. We already have one interested Dogster pup, Wrangler, who needs help transporting dogs from Houston, TX to Greenbrier, AK. Contact Wrangler - Dogster ID # 375687.
If any of you are looking for a dog, or could possibly foster one, please check these guys out.
Link to Houston Dogs
The thirty dogs [mentioned] here are at the Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. They will be euthanized MONDAY JAN. 8 at 5 p.m. if they are not adopted or found foster homes before then. If you or someone you know can help, read on.
There currently are over 30 dogs at BARC in Houston who have been there for more than 3 months. The folks at BARC really want them to find homes....but simply cannot continue to house them. Not only is it inhumane for the dogs to be in small cages for months on end, these dogs are taking up space for other adoptable animals that come into BARC daily. BARC has given us until MONDAY, Jan. 8th at 5pm to find adopters or fosters for these dogs. Otherwise, they will be humanely euthanized. Can you help save a dog? As you can see by the photos, these are beautiful animals and each one has a story to tell.
Most of these dogs need some extra TLC, socialization and life in a home environment to learn rules and what its like to receive love and attention. Very few of them will be house trained, but can learn quickly.
In the title of each photo is the dog's BARC ID number. After clicking on each photo, you will find a brief description of the animal. On a few of them, I did not write down the sex but we can easily find out that info for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me, Barbara Sands or Julie Keeton (contact info below). One of our volunteers can assist you with locating the animal at the shelter and completing and all the necessary paperwork.
The adoption fee is only $55 (what a deal!!) All of these animals have been spayed or neutered and are current on all vaccinations.
You also can foster these animals to prevent them from being euthanized. You would need to house them until a new home is found. Please let me know if you are interested in doing this and again, we can help you through the process. We have lots of offsite adoption centers at Northwest Mall as well as 6 area Petsmarts where you can bring the animal on the weekend to meet
potential adopters. If you've never fostered before, some of our experienced fosters also can help you with behavioral issues and other needs.

Please forward to all of your dog-loving friends!! With your help, we save at least SOME of these wonderful dogs!

I just heard that the Huntington Beach Humane Society is closing its doors on the 8th. All dogs & cats not adopted by then will be killed on the 8th. PLEASE spread the word via email, pawmail, forums, groups, phone calls ... and open your heart and your home to one of these deserving animals.
It appears that you have to be an HB resident to adopt an animal. Why, I don't know. It is my opinion that this rule should be discarded during this crisis.
Orange County Humane Society
21632 Newland, Huntington Beach, CA
714-536-8480 - open 7 days 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
They are located one half block from the Pacific Ocean just behind the power plant.
Here's a website I found for them. No mention of this is on their site, however:
http://www.amrt.net/huntingtonbeach.htm
We heard that the cats aren't getting much attention - in fact, my mom is going down there tomorrow to take pictures of all of the cats, in an effort to help get them adopted.
Here's info about the dogs:
We just got another email from the head of the other rescue group who got it from another rescue group - and I just copied/pasted it:
Please be advised that Huntington Beach Humane Society (the 'humane' part is questionable) is closing down for good on January 8 and ALL DOGS AND CATS MUST BE ADOPTED OR THEY WILL BE EUTHANIZED. The shelter is not publicizing this very well (probably for fear of the bad publicity) so we need to spread the word. Please share this information with other animal lovers in the hopes that more animals will be adopted from there. The shelter is 'selling' the dogs (and cats?) for 50% off to move them out.
And this:
pls CROSS POST WIDELY
Pls look at their pix and bio's...they will all be killed on Jan 8th.

Wow, that Simba and all the Simba alter egos are so cool! They mentioned me in the first Simba's diary. Well, it's kinda confusing, so you better read her diary for yourself.
Thanks, Simba!

This was posted in one of my groups, and we felt it was important to pass on:
Please HELP!!! 7 missing dogs update - long, but worth it.
The updated post from Pamela caught my eye because of the added name of Claudia Graham and www.divinitymaltese.com
I am not in the maltese circuit but because of some of the websites that I have created, I have heard of this woman and EVERYONE has always spoken of her in such high regard of her, her dogs, and her lines.
This is what I have so far.
I have just gotten off the phone with Claudia Graham from www.divinitymaltese.com who is the sole owner of Maltese Peanut "Divinity Midnight Rendezvous" and the co owner of Geno (Sunny) Divinity Sundance.
She was very emotional as we spoke. She was shaking and tearing from what I could hear. We spoke for over an hour and she couldn't stop. SHE NEEDS HELP and I have no idea how to help her.
Here are the facts according to Claudia Graham:
Darlene Black breeds Poms and Maltese in GA and contacted Claudia about purchasing Sunny new name Geno as a breeder and show dog. Claudia agreed to this but Claudia was to be co owner. Then, Darlene wanted Rob (who is Darlene's handler and according to Darlene like a son) to be co owner as well. Claudia wasn't very comfortable with that (doing a 3 owner) but was convinced that Darlene was a wonderful caring women and thought she could trust her.
Darlene sent Rob to Claudia's home in TX to pick up the dog "Geno". When Rob saw "Peanut" he ooooooo'd and aaaaaaa'd over him and asked if she was going to show him. Claudia said yes but hadn't set it up yet. He wanted to show the dog with Geno. Guess what guys? No Contract. Trusting him she said, all right because she already had ties with him on the co ownership with Geno. And it looked like a lasting relationship with Darlene.
This was 4 months ago.
During those 4 months Rob really didn't answer her calls or her emails She would speak with Darlene begging to get Rob to call her about the boys. Then she said she just wanted peanut back because he hadn't even shown him yet. Rob had every excuse in the book. Now, he gets Peanut in a show and before he even shows, the dog is stolen along with the co-owned and the 5 others.
Here is the kicker:
Rob Storey and Darlene Black NEVER EVEN CALLED Claudia to let her know. Claudia heard SUNDAY NIGHT from a friend of hers that is also in the breeding world. NONE of the posters or pleas for help include the name of Divinity Maltese or Claudia Graham. Claudia is hurt and furious. She is sick to death at where this dog is.
Peanut is an "exceptional pedigree" that is so important to her because he is the last of the line that she has. This is why he is so important. His mom is spayed. I forgot what she said about his dad.
She has been on the phone with the police and had the sheriff go to Robs house and there are cages all over the place, all the blinds are down, there were some larger dogs in the back yard, and the barking coming out of the house from lots of dogs. Rob no where in site. No van in site.
She wanted to do a background check on Rob Storey and the police won't do it without just cause. Claudia finally got a hold of Darlene but the story is constantly changing. She has yet to speak with Rob.
What can be done for this woman??? Does anyone have any ideas-???
She is at the point that she would hire a private investigator if he were reputable and not take her for everything she owns. She is willing to offer a reward. I told her to post it all over her website.
Can anyone offer assistance as to where to go from here?
At this point the two others can't be trusted because of the variations to the story and the way things were handled.
She is hanging by a thread here.
Anyone can call her and email her if they have any doubts and want to speak to her.

Yes, it's true. Parker was lucky to find his forever home, but his sister Red still needs to find her forever home. She's such a great dog and we want her to be as happy as we are. She is being cared for by Critters in Need Pet Rescue; in fact, she's their Pet of the Week!
Meet Red this Saturday from 11-4 at
PetSmart
7600 Edinger Ave
Huntington Beach, CA 92647
714-842-5253
Call Critters in Need Pet Rescue at 949.831.4988 for more information.
You can see Red on the rescue site plus Mommy posted some photos of her on Parker's Dogster page, too! Here's some information on Red from the Critters Rescue website:
RED'S BACKGROUND:
* Red, German Shepherd/Dobie mix
* Healthy
* Spayed
* Current on all of her vaccinations
* Playful, loving, full of personality
* Good with people
* Good with kids, ages 9 or older
* Not tested with cats
* Housebroken
* Energy Level: 7 (on a scale from 1-10)
"I am a loving dog that wants to please my new owners. I am used to being an inside/outside dog and will be wanting to spend a lot of time with my family whether riding, exercising or watching TV. I am very regal looking. If you are looking for a very handsome girl, come meet me and I won't disappoint you. I'm very mellow, and have no trouble just hanging around and being your friend. I like to be the boss in a crowd but I'm not at all overbearing and get along with all my dog friends, both male and female," Red says, tail wagging.
If you are interested in meeting this good-looking girl, please email Critters Rescue or call 949-831-4988 and leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Critters Rescue recommends that all dogs go through a basic obedience class with members of the new family so that the pet's new life starts out on a positive note and everyone understands the same expectations.
If you are interested in getting more information, submitting an application to adopt Red, or if you want to see her during the week, please call (949) 831-4988 or send an email to crittersrescue@cox.net. She will be at the PetSmart in Huntington Beach on Saturdays.
