Favorite Food: High quality frozen and thawed feeder mice
Skills: She picks up things sitting down with her paws like a racoon and fetches balls. Also will sit and shake paws (working on more tricks).
Arrival Story: Toki was adopted at 6 weeks old; story to follow. She was advertised on craigslist as a "Hemmingway kitten" because she is polydactyl. When I visited the home she was born in (she had just turned one month old) I fell in love with Toki instantly. She obviously wasn't ready to be adopted and the woman promised me Toki when she became 12 weeks old. On the day she turned 6 weeks I got a text message from the owner saying she had gotten calls from other people wanting Toki and offering $50.00 and she would graciously give me Toki that day for $40.00 "since I seemed to care so much". I was taken aback by such a rude proposition, providing her own listing that said they were free. The money wasn't an issue but when she started saying how the mother's milk had completely had dried up and they were eating solid food (crappy meow mix) I realized that these people wanted nothing more than a few dollars as quickly as possible. That sent off alarm bells in my head and I quickly rushed over there, money in hand to rescue this kitten.
Bio: Toki's cat parents were the owners two house cats. Toki's mother was an obvious Maine Coon (grey and beige tabby color). Not only did she display prominent ear tufts she was the one with the polydactyl gene (only on the back feet). She was also very large for a house-cat, larger than the father (who was large himself).
Her father was a beautiful short haired solid black cat with a very thin but long frame all around. He had longer than average legs, tail and body length.
Only 3 out of the 10 kittens in the litter were polydactyl. Toki was the only solid black and only polydactyl-on-all-four feet kitten. She was also the runt and according to the owner had to be separated from the rest of the kittens to nurse (and bottle-fed) because she was so tiny.
Go on youtube or google "Toki sings to his cat" and you'll understand why I named her Toki. I am avid fan of Metalocalypse and Toki is my favorite character!
Toki has 2 extra thumbs on her left paw, one extra on the right making 13 claws just on the front. Both back feet have an extra thumb! 23 in total!
Toki eats a diet of high quality frozen feeder mice, chicks, various chicken meats, organs and bones.
She learned her name very quickly and took to trick training like a champion!
She is very needy because she was adopted so young and will suckle and knead on any person's clothes until they have a large wet spot. She will suckle on her blanket if she is not allowed on a person.
