Arrival Story:
Jed appeared in our yard in August of 2011, a few weeks after some neighbors moved out of state and left their cats behind. He was skin-and-bones but friendly. I put out food for him, and about a week later, he brought over an equally emaciated and badly injured female cat and her litter of very wild kittens. The mother cat appeared too weak and sick to care for her kittens, so Jed took over, washing and playing with the kittens. Eventually, I was able to win the trust of the momcat and bring her inside so I could care for her. I also managed to catch two of the kittens, tame them, and place them in loving homes. (The other two kittens are still feral, but I continue to put food out on the porch for them.) At one point, Jed disappeared for four days and I was very worried about him, so when he finally showed up again, I brought him inside the house (against my husband's wishes), giving the excuse that I didn't want him to run off before his neutering appointment. Seven weeks after I brought Jed to live indoors, my hubby seemed to notice for the first time that he was still here, and said, "What is that cat still doing in the house? Put him outside NOW!" I ignored my husband, and Jed is still here. Jed gets along well with our other cats, especially Curly, who usually doesn't like strange cats but took to Jed like a long-lost buddy. Jed is a sweet kitty with a very quiet purr, and he is very much loved.

SAD UPDATE: Jed passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 2, 2016. He had eaten a good breakfast that morning and was active and energetic, not acting sick at all. My husband found Jed on the floor of the family room that afternoon. We think he must have had a sudden heart attack. Jed will always be my hero for rescuing our cat Zeva and her kittens. He was a quiet, wise, and loving kitty who left us much too soon. Rest in peace, sweet Jed. I will remember you with love for all of my days.
