Hello everyone! Kara's mom here again. Kara has been a very happy kitty this past year since out last update. She's been right at home in our house. We are going to buy this house, so no more moving for Kara! She's very happy here, so that's a good thing. We got her window perch set up in one of the windows. Hopefully she'll start using it soon. Once she realizes it's there anyway. She used to use it at our old apartment. We just never got around to putting it up once we moved. We finally got it in a window for her to look out and be comfy. I still take her out on her harness and leash sometimes, when its a nice day out and the neighborhood is quiet. We have some new neighbors with dogs, so I take her out when the dogs aren't barking because the barking scares her. But they are quiet dogs so they don't bark a lot and they don't roam, they stay in their yard or house, so there is no danger of them coming over here and bothering Kara when I take her out. Our neighbors are nice. Kara has been a great nurse this past year. I was put on oxygen in December 2015 for my lung problems and I had to use it until August 2016. I wasn't able to go out much because I had to take an oxygen tank everywhere I went. So I spent a lot of time at home cuddling with Kara. She was so sweet to me. She's such a good kitty. She wakes me up every morning with head bonks and then I'll start petting her and she will purr so loud. Then we will have morning cuddle time before I get out of bed. I'm happy to be off the oxygen now, so I can go out more, but I still spend a lot of time with Kara. She's my angel. Today I went to Target to look at the Halloween stuff and I bought her some catnip pumpkins they had in the cat toy section. I figured she needed some new Halloween toys. And in the afternoons after her Daddy gets home from work he will lay across the bed and she will lay on his chest and give him kisses. It's so adorable. She is such a happy kitty. I just love her so much. We have a mouse in the house that she has been hunting. She can't get to it because it stays behind everything, but she will sit and stare at the stove, the refrigerator, the washing machine and the dryer and just watch sometimes. I know she smells it. I have only seen it once and it went behind the dryer and disappeared. I don't think she will ever catch it, and I'm afraid to put out traps because I wouldn't want her to get into them. But she looks for it.

Hi everyone! Kara's Mom here again! I can't believe it's been so long since we've updated! Me and Kara wanted to fix that, so here we are again! It's been a rough year, but things are finally looking up! I was in and out of the hospital again several times, but it was always Nurse Kara to the rescue with cuddles and head bonks, to help me feel better in no time! Kara is doing great. She has really settled into the house, and is totally at home here now. I try to take her on walks now on her harness and leash out in the yard. She is getting braver and braver and will now go to the tree in the side yard and away from the driveway a bit to explore. Noises scare her and she will run back to the carport though if she hears something she doesn't like. She's still pretty shy when we are out there. But that's ok. She is due for her annual exam at the vets, so we will try to get her in soon. She seems healthy, but it's good to get her checked out every year, just in case. She is also due for an annual vaccine, so we'll get that too. So that will be coming up very soon, as soon as we get the chance to make the appointment. I think she is getting a little pudgy, so the vet might lecture us about her weight. I try not to give her too may treats, but we may end up having to start measuring her food instead of letting her graze freely. Which she will hate if we have to start doing that. She's used to just eating when she wants. Which might be part of the problem. Poor kitty. She is still a very active cat, and does get good exercise, which helps. And she's still my love bug, and loves her daily cuddles, with both me and her Daddy. She's such a sweet girl. Now if I can just keep myself out of the hospital for loner periods of time so I can stay home with her, we'll be doing good.

Hi, Kara's Mom here again! It's been quite busy around here since last month! I've spent quite a bit of time away from home (boo!) here lately. I've so far had a total of 4 trips to the hospital so far this year with my health issues, and that's not good. We believe there is something here in the apartment, that we just aren't seeing, that is affecting my breathing and causing problems. We wanted to move anyway, this just seals the deal. In an attempt to prevent yet ANOTHER hospital trip, I tried staying out at my parents house for just over a week (from a Friday to the NEXT Saturday) to see if getting out of the place for a while would allow my breathing to stabilize enough to avoid the hospital. It didn't work. So I returned home that Saturday afternoon to a VERY happy Kara kitty! We missed each other SO much! I was greeted with lots of meows and purrs and excitement, and got lots of cuddles that night as we slept. By Wednesday I was off to the hospital, leaving behind a VERY disappointed Kara. "But you JUST got home Mom! DO you HAVE to go so soon!?" She begged and pleaded with meows and cried as I carried my bags out the door, and I said my goodbyes and off I went. It has been another week, now Wednesday again, and I have returned home. Over the last few weeks we have accumulated countless boxes to pack things in, much to Kara's enjoyment! She carefully inspects EACH one as it is brought inside, and gives it her seal of approval. We have found a 3 bedroom house that we are moving into soon. Our apartment lease expires at the end of this month, so we have until then to be out anyway. The sooner the better for my health though. I think Kara will enjoy the new place, once she gets used to the layout. MORE SPACE! From a 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house - I think she'll adapt well! We will also use the spare room to place her litterbox in. For the moment it is in our bedroom, and she scares me to death when she goes potty while I'm sleeping and the sound of her scratching wakes me up.... hahaha. She's just so LOUD about it! I think she has to let EVERYONE know that she is using the box! We still haven;t had the funds (with me being so sick and with working on moving expenses) to get her ears checked at the vet, but it's still on our to-do-asap list! My Mom is coming out on Monday to help me pack some thing away into boxes. I really think Kara will like our new home. It's near the end of a quiet, dead-end street. There will be more oppertunities for me to take her out on her harness and leash for her to play outside! And best part - no stairs, so I can do it more often! (The apartment is on the second floor - and I have trouble with stairs with my health, so I don't get to take her outside as often as I would like...)

Kara's Mom here. Today Kara was greatly spoiled. I went to the pet store and bought her some new toys. I got her the Toys R' Us Pets brand of the tri-tunnel for her to play in. She loves it! She has played and sat in it off and on all afternoon/evening (until it was time to go nap). I also got her a new pink blanket to lay by her cat tree where she likes to nap. She has been laying on one of mine, so I decided to get her her own, so I could put mine away. It's the same soft material as the one she's been using, so I'm sure she'll love it. I have also been trying to introduce some wet food into her diet. I want to get more moisture into her diet, to help her skin and coat stay healthy. I tried wet food before, but she would refuse to eat it, no matter the flavor. I think she just didn't like the brand I had (Friskies). I've tried some other brands, and she seems to love them. So far I think the Iams wet food is her favorite. I buy her the Iams dry food, so I thought I'd give the wet food a try. I've also tried a can of Meow Mix and some Fancy Feast Mornings. But I still think she went after the Iams with the most enthusiasm. So I will likely stick with that brand. She will start getting one can of wet food a day, with dry food left out for her to snack on when she's hungry otherwise. I also have been adding some Omega 3's to her dry food when she eats. I bought some wild alaskan salmon oil made for pets from Amazon (I shop a lot on Amazon.com) and she loves the taste of it, and it seems to be helping her skin and coat. At her last vet visit (a routine check-up and annual shots) I discussed with her vet about Kara's dandruff issues. It's not too severe, but enough to notice when I scratch and pet her. So far it seems to be helping. I also bought from Amazon a shampoo and conditioner made just for cats. It's a tearless formula, and it seemed to get her nice and clean and get her coat looking nice after her bath. I've only used it once so far, but I really like it. The brand is called Le Salon. It's the "Soothe" shampoo that has colloidal oatmeal in it to help with dry, itchy skin. And I have the "Moisture Renew" conditioner with shea butter to help moisturize. The shampoo is also fragrance free, which I'm sure makes Kara happier. She is needing to go back to the vet again, so as soon as we have the money, we are making an appointment. She is having trouble with her ears again. She had to get ear drops once after I first got her, and I think she needs them again. She scratches at her ears a lot, and when she scratches her left one sometimes, it makes her cry. So I wonder if she has eat mites again somehow, or if something else is going on. So we will take her soon to have her ears checked out.

Tomorrow is my birthday! I'll be 3 years old! Mommy is throwing me a party. Friends will come over and pet and play with me. Mommy says she got me some new toys too. She gave me one early to play with, that I got the other day. I've really loved playing with it! It's one of those foil crinkly balls. A BIG one. I can't wait to see what else I get! Mommy has some decorations she will put up tomorrow, and she is even going to bake a kitty cake, like she did last year, and make the icing to look like my face. She uses a Hello Kitty cake pan for it. It should be lots of fun tomorrow!

Well, Daddy and Mommy bought me a harness and leash, so now I get to go outside and play sometimes! I still get nervous if there's a lot of noise out there, but I like it when it's quiet. I never stay out for long before I'm ready to go back inside, but it's fun while I'm out there. I get to sniff at the wind and explore the feel of the grass. I don't like the feel of the harness much, and try to roll out of it, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it off. Mommy says I'll get used to it as I realize that it means outside play time. Mommy has been away a lot lately because of the hospital again, but now that she's back home I give her lots of cuddles to make her feel better. I even decided to wake her up one morning with a poke in the eye with my paw..... she wasn't happy about that one though. I wake her every morning with meows and purrs, and she cuddles me before she gets out of bed, it's our morning routine. I'm a bit annoyed that my claws got clipped today, so I've been a bit fussy today, but I usually get over it pretty fast, cause I have to have my cuddles by bedtime. Well, time to go back to napping on top of the pizza box stack.

Important update: Mommy and Daddy got married! It's been very busy at our apartment lately getting things ready for their wedding. Lots of new people and things going in and out. Lots of new smells. But the people were nice and petted me,so it was ok. On Friday, April 5th, they finally got to have their wedding. I had to be home alone all day. *pout* But now things have settled down and I am back to my routine. My routine makes me happy. I have gotten used to Mommy's breathing treatment machines too. I climb all over her and the machines now in the middle of treatments to get attention. Back in December, Mommy even had a birthday party just for me! She invited some of my favorite people and even baked a kitty cake and made the icing look like my face! I got extra treats and toys and had lots of fun! Well, time to go, today is sunny and there is a sunbeam waiting just for me to lay in.

After spending some time with the Humane Society of Catawba County, I finally found my forever home! My new Mommy and Daddy seem to love me a lot, so I'm sure I will love it here. I'm still adjusting and getting settled in. My previous family gave me away while I was pregnant, but I've been spayed now, so no more kittens for me! There are toys everywhere that are just for me, and a neat window perch so I can lounge and soak up some sun while I look out the window and watch the birds in the trees. I've been making sure to show my new family lots of love, so that they know how happy I am to be here. The only thing I don't like so far is when Mommy does her breathing treatments, the machine make a funny noise. But she says I'll get used to it. I love my new home!
