Arrival Story:
The Mommy had been nagging the Daddy for over four months to get a kitty, and finally he said yes. They first decided to go to a shelter, but before they got around to it Mommy happened to walk passed a pet shop near her work and saw they had kittens. When she saw me she liked my lovely colours and how energetic I was. So after a phone call to the Daddy, going back to work to think about it, then going back to the shop twice more she decided to get me. She had to wait a whole week before the people at the pet shop would let me go home though because I had to get my first lot of injections but that gave the Mommy and Daddy time to get everything just perfect for the arrival of the Baby, that's ME!

Bio:
So, EVERYONE asks me why it is that a GIRL kitten has a boy cat's name. Well here is the story. When the Mommy found me in the pet shop I was in before she adopted me the lady who showed her me said I was a BOY! The Mommy didn't have a chance to check for herself because she had to rush back to work. While she was deciding if she should get me she wondered what she could call me. The name 'Merlin' popped into her had and she says it was like fate, she just KNEW that she had to have me. It is funny but Mommy takes names rather seriously you see. So, as I mentioned she had to wait a week before she could take me home and that whole week long she was thinking of me as Merlin. When she finally picked me up she happened to check me and was pretty sure I looked like a girl, but thought she must be mistaken until she checked my vet card on the way home and, yep, it said I was a girl! Well, what could she do? She wasn't about to take me back, no, she couldn't do that! So she tried to find another name for me, but after a week of looking everywhere she couldn't find anything that 'fit' me as well as Merlin. So, Merlin I stayed. Besides, I like my name, it suites me. And, I know it was what helped to bring me together with my Mommy and Daddy. A Merlin I was meant to be!

Well, that is what The Mommy seems to think. She got a new camera and she's been taking so many photos of me as she tests it out. I am not always very cooperative though, it is way too interesting to explore the sit still to have my picture taken.

But she did manage to get some nice shots of me, and hopefully with practice she will get better.

My first tree climb, or, giving The Mommy a heart attack!

So, yesterday, because the Mommy stayed home, went outside for a while. She first put the harness thing on me for a bit, and then went she had changed and gotten her stuff together she put the lead on the harness and took me out the front door.

We went down the stairs and outside and then I started wriggling because I wanted to walk by myself. So I am just sniffing and looking around, I am not used to the front part of the complex because we usually go out the back door. So as we start going around the side of the house I hear this funny sound.

I look through the fence and see this funny little animal, all excited making that annoying yappy sound. So of course I have to go and investigate. I slowly go closer and this funny animal starts yapping louder and louder. I freeze and sniff and look at it curiously, why is it making so much noise anyway?

So, the Mommy decides to pick me up and take me away from the annoying animal and we go to the back yard where I usually play and walk and I run around and chase bugs and stuff for a while like I usually do.

Suddenly, I run towards the big, big, tree stump that is in the middle of the yard. It used to be a very big tree but they cut most of it down a few weeks ago. Now the stump stands about 2,3 meters high and I decided that I wanted to see what it was like on the top. So in less that three seconds I am on the top of the stump. My lead is very long, about 3 meters so I I still have time to move around on the top.

Now the Mommy is not sure what to do! Don't know what she is so worried about, it is FUN on top of the big tree stump, I can see everything. So walked along some of the cut branches. Mommy is busy gently pulling on the lead but I keep twisting and pulling away and she is worried that I will get out of it if she pulls to hard.

So as I am exploring my new play place I don't realize I am twisting the lead around some of the small branches and in the grooves of the branches. Suddenly I can't move much at all, and the Mommy can't untangle the lead! And I can't even move my legs anymore because they are tangled! Uh-oh.

So she decides to try and climb up after me. This is not a good idea, the Mommy is not good at climbing trees, she hasn't got claws like me. So as she goes to put her phone and keys and stuff down, I decide that I have had enough of the stupid harness and lead and use my super ninja kitten powers to get out of it. As she turns around I appear without my harness on.

Well you should have seen her face, she looked really shocked and scared. What was the big deal? So I need to get down now and am trying to decide which side to jump off of. So the Mommy starts to call me really softly and hold out her hands to me and for a second I wonder if I should go to her, but then I figure she looks kinda upset so I better go see why. I start climbing down and slip right into her arms.

She is really happy, buy, woah, she is holding me really tight, so I wriggle to say I am ready to go down, but she doesn't put me down, she just holds onto me tight and takes me straight back inside! What?!

She puts me in the living room and closes the door so I can't get out. A few minutes later she gets back with the harness and lead and the rest of her stuff. What in earth? That isn't fair! Just when I was starting to have fun.

*sighs*

I love my new toy!

'The Mommy' made me a new toy. She says it looks like one she saw on the internet. But since she couldn't get one of them around here she decided to make one.

She used a long stick and some very thin string and stuck some feathers together on the end. I kept trying to steal the feathers away, that was fun. She wrapped some leather around the end of the feathers attached to the string so that I won't get any glue in my mouth.

Then came the fun part, testing it. Whenever she flicks the stick the feathers make a swishhh sound and fly away. Well, what am I supposed to do? I can't just let feather's do that! I have to kill them!!

I love to chase those feathers all over the house, up and down and over the furniture. Sometimes I pretend to be tired and lay down, but The Mommy knows that I am faking because I can't keep my tail still when I am that excited. As soon as the feathers disappear around the corner I am right behind them!

I had my toy for two days and then, on Friday, when The Mommy wanted to play with me she couldn't find it. So she asked 'The Daddy' if he put it somewhere but he hadn't seen it. It was a mystery, where had the toy gone? I looked up at her very innocently. I didn't know, honest.

She looked and looked, and while she was doing that I happened to stumble on it in the room full of boxes and clothes, under the chair. I have no idea how it got there, maybe those pesky feathers tried to hide from me? *another innocent look*

Anyway, today only the Daddy left the house early and it looks like the Mommy is going to stay here with me. Usually they both go out during the day but sometimes one or both of them will stay home. I like those days because then I can watch and cuddle and play with them. I decided that I wanted to play with my toy, but the Mommy was playing with the black little lap box that I am not supposed to walk over. So I went and got the toy and dragged it all the way down the passage and around the corner to the couch and put the feathers down in front of her.

That gave her the message, and she stopped what she was doing and we started to play. I played until not even my tail wanted to move and now I am sleepy, so I am going to take a nap.

*yawn, purrrrs*
