Toby's Diary

On a flea hunt..

My mum reckons she got bitten by something. She doesn't think we have fleas but she wanted to check.

I was very curious to know how she would find a tiny flea in my sleek dark fur so was happy to be the first cat to be checked. Mum got a special comb with narrow teeth and she combed me, especially at the back of my neck and the Toby end of my tail. Lots of fluff came off and she looked at it intently. And so did I and there was definitely no fleas there.

"You're done" she said. I didn't want to be done. I really liked the combing. "I think I do feel some. Comb me some more" so she did and I had a very happy purry time and we can be pretty sure no fleas are hiding anywhere.

Josie had to have a turn too. She says the comb makes her feel all peculier and she isn't sure if she likes it or not. It certainly makes her tail go big. There were no fleas in her fluff either. She was so sure her furr is good that she tried to eat it and Mum had to hide it.

So we are flea free of course so mum's bite wasn't our fault. I asked if maybe she has fleas and had to move very fast as she wasn't happy with me saying that!

Maybe it was Catster fleas! They are known to be around.

Good you and Josie are flea free. Zoey and I loved to be brushed too.

I have to be flea free I am allergic to them. If I get a flea on me I can get really really sick. Has your mum thought about putting you a regular flea treatment. I have a flea treatment call advantage once a month. You may not have flea now but prevention is better than cure.

I think your Mom needs to be combed too. Ka-zar is right, Toby. Since you go outside, you might want to think about something to keep the fleas away. We use Revolution.

I am happy that you and Josie are "Flea Free." I have nefur purrsonally had them myself, but I have been told they are furry hard to get rid of sometimes. If you or Josie were to bring them inside of the house, they could get down in your carpet and breed. They can breed in your furniture also. Since you and Josie go outside, your mum ought to think about Flea preventative. It's better to be safe than sorry my meowmy says. She uses Advantage on us.
