Silver Tabby

Mischief loves to play. Play, play, play. And snuggle. Mostly play, though.

None so far, nothing seems to bother him!

Favorite Toy:
Whatever he's currently playing with. Sparkle ball, piece of paper, shoelace, the dog's tail, it's all good!

Favorite Nap Spot:
On top of the Basset Hound.

Favorite Food:
He's not picky!

Is being a bouncy ball disguised as a kitten a skill?

Mischief LOVES to play. He plays with the dogs, he plays with my boyfriend and I, he even plays with my pet rats through the bars of their cages, or by himself. He'll bounce around the house like a little silver whirlwind randomly chasing dust bunnies, shadows, or imaginary mice. He swings from the curtains, and gets behind the stove and needs to be pulled out when he can't figure out how to get back out. Then he somersaults across the couch chasing his tail. Just watching him can be exhausting! But then, he comes up to me and taps my foot, and sits there looking up, purring, to be held for a while, and I realize, even through all the silly hyperness, he's staying close by to where I am, and my heart melts.

Mischief is the healthiest kitten I've ever brought home. He's seven weeks old now, been here one week today, and not even having any new food tummy aches like every other kitten I've ever gotten. His ears are clean with no signs of the dreaded ear mites, and his eyes are bright and clear. He has a nice plump feel, not fat, but not skinny, good and solid like a well-fed kitten that was actually properly weaned and fed BEFORE being taken to the pet shop. (it's a little mom-and-pop place, most of their kittens are found under porches or in barns) He's also clearly been around people, dogs, and other cats, and I strongly suspect that his momma was a very healthy and well-loved girl!

It's been a LONG time since I've had a kitten, 11 years, to be precise. I'm taking a different approach to raising this one. I'm waiting an extra month before I start getting him shots, for one, as I think his natural immune system needs a chance to develop before being flooded with dead viruses. (My Dachshund is actually allergic to vaccines, I approach them with extreme caution now) He will, of course, GET his shots, as the last thing I want is for him to get sick with feline leukemia or some such thing. I just think, once he's a little bigger, he'll handle the shots better.

Also, I've previously been a fan of a dry-food only diet. Now I'm going to be combining wet and dry foods, after having done a lot of reading about what cause urinary problems like what my last cat had. (he also had kidney failure and strokes, another story though) As far as which food, that's a work in progress, for now he's on Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul (kitten formula) but as I do more research on the brands I can get locally that may change.

I want to give this already healthy and amazing kitten every opportunity to grow into an even healthier and more amazing cat. It's only been a week, but he's already claimed a big chunk of my heart!
