Arsonist on the loose

Some of you might remember that last summer there was an arsonist on the loose here and he was starting all kinds of fires RIGHT near my house and in my neighborhood in the middle of the night. Well he still wasn't caught and he's at it again. The other night, he burned down a playground, last night it was a fire in the alley of a restaurant that's literally a 1 minute drive from our house. This is furry scary stuff! He's always in the same darn area, why can't they catch him? We just hope he doesn't come to our street or house. Grammy and grampy are so old and slow it would take a miracle to get them out of here. Plus mom would have to shove me and Finney both in the same carrier really fast (good luck with that one) because she hasn't had a chance or the money to buy an extra one. Sigh. The have to catch this guy before someone gets hurt!

Some of you also might remember how last summer some new neighbors moved in with their kitty named Ivan! We call him Ivan the terrible because he walked up to my mom in our yard last summer and was all lovey dovey, she reached down to pet him and CHOMP! He took a good bite on her arm and it was DEEP. He actually hit bone on her wrist. She was bleeding when she went over to his house and told his owners. She made sure to have them show her proof he had his shots. That bite hurt her arm for 2 weeks. She said she should have went to the doctor anyways. Mom has never in her life had that happen before. Never been bitten by an animal at all. I guess this kitty's previous owner used to put on a leather glove and wrestle with him so he'd bite him. Stupid, stupid, stupid! These owners have had him for almost 6 years now and still can't break him of the habit. Which mom keeps thinking he's gonna bite a kid around here. This kitty is nuts now! He loved the taste of my mom's meat so much he won't leave her alone. He's in our yard all the time, follows her around like a dog, rubs up against her leg and tries to follow her into the house. She keeps telling him to get lost and refuses to pet him now. But he loves her! I'll bet he does. Mom says if he comes and rolls all over her veggies she's planting in her garden this year, she's not going to be happy!

BTW, speaking of brats, Finney has already wrecked mom's brand new curtains in the living room. Yup, several pulls and tears everywhere! He thinks it's fun to pull them down and hide behind them. Me, I don't do that. I destroy her bed and table, MOL!

Well Ivan keeps trying to get her to pet him again, he looks like he's sorry he did that. Mom is funny, he keeps laying down at her feet and rubbing all over her and she just looks at him and says "no way Ivan! Bite me once, shame on you, bite me twice, shame on me!" MOL

Oh I don't like this one bit Lacey! You stay safe from that arsonist. The police really need to catch that guy! You stay safe! If you're looking for a cheap, temporary carrier, you can get a cardboard one from Petsmart. It would do the trick in an emergency.

Anybody ever see those carriers at Walmart called Petcrate? They look pretty good but mom doesn't know if she should get one. They're only $25.00

Ivan the terrible indeed..Your Mama needs to carry a water gun to send him a is not his fault though..too bad your Mama cant find his 'owner' and smack him with that glove..
You can also find soft canvas carriers at Target and The dollar general under 20$..we have those for emergencies only..
Hope they catch that fire bug and soon!

We only have one carrier too. We are so out of the loop right know, I hope they get that firebug! Mom says it's probably teenagers.

Look about the neighbor kitty, he's probably starving for a petting. I don't blame your Mom one bit, but I would try to pet him again. Poor thing, it's not his fault he's the way he is.

Mom gets tempted to pet Ivan, she knows it's not his fault and he tries to be so cute around her now, like he's apologizing. But she said that bite was awful! Those puncture marks on her wrist never went away, you can still see them! That's how hard it was. She is thinking about bringing a water bottle outside though. She says she feels bad even thinking about it. But he's a pest!

Blizzard that would be so pawsome if you could come after that firebug! We don't understand why they like to set fires to people's businesses and houses so much. But one of these days someone is gonna get really hurt!

You talking about the firebug or Ivan?
Purred by: Lacey (Catster Member)

April 15th 2011 at 5:34 pm

I was talking about the firebug but Blizzard can certainly come after Ivan too if he wants to. That would help out my meowmy a lot. Then if he was here, my momma could give Blizzard a great big hug and kiss too! Maybe even I will, mmmmwwaaaaa!!!

That's got to be awfully tempting to pet him. Maybe the water bottle would work or catfather. Sorry she has to be mean, I know it breaks her heart.

MOL! You lub it catfather. You're a furry handsome big guy. I think I'll let Blizzard try first and then mom can see if she actually needs to squirt Ivan. Why did that darned previous owner of his have to go and do something so stupid? Even his owners now said he's very loving but you can't look at him the wrong way or he jumps you! Sheesh!

We dont have enough carriers either. The fire alarm went off one day and mom had to shove Me and Melody in the same one. Mom is looking into getting two BIG carriers that she can fit us in.

So scary about the fires. Moms biggest fear is for us to be in a fire. I sure hope they catch the guy soon. Someone could get hurt.

Lots of love,

That's scary about the fires. Could the neighborhood set up some kind of patrol along with the police department. You guys stay safe.

About Ivan - Mom looked at me and said "I'm so glad you don't do stuff like that, Charley." Humph, Mom doesn't taste that good, besides she's the one that opens the cat food cans. You don't bite the hand that does that!!

April 15th 2011 at 5:54 pm

Did you see the really nice carrier that Hunter's mom got him? Mom would love to get a couple of those but they're pretty expensive. Very nice and sturdy though! She's like to find a couple of them like that. The one she has now is big but it's super heavy! She has a hard time. She'd like a canvas one for Finney too but he's so gosh darned big and will probably get bigger! Most of those carriers only hold a kitty at 15 lbs. the most. That's what he is NOW!

It is scary Toby and that's what my mom fears too. Specially for us and for grammy and grampy. We have a ton of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in the house though and she always changes the batteries. Matter of fact she just replaced one of the alarms that was old and she wants to replace all of them. But if the fire is started somewhere like our garage, those won't help! Mom is usually up pretty late though and we have flood lights that go on in the yard if anything moves. Sometimes it goes off when a skunk comes in the yard, MOL. But mom always looks out the windows when that happens just in case.

Lacey, that's very scarey about the arsonist! Purring that no one gets hurt and they catch him SOON!

As for your neighbor's kitty, maybe he's starved for attention? Your mom can be nice and friendly to him and talk to him and coo over him and let him rub her and at the same time, be cautious about petting him again. :)

April 15th 2011 at 5:56 pm

MOL that's true Charley, we should never bite the hand that feeds us. There was supposed to be a neighborhood watch set up last year and a couple of signs were put up but we've never seen anybody doing patrols! Mom just said the same thing to grammy, like where is this stupid watch anyways? there's a darned police station right down the street! Are they all out eating donuts or what? Seems awfully stupid they can't catch this guy.
Purred by: Lacey (Catster Member)

April 15th 2011 at 5:59 pm

I don't know about that Kaci, we've seen him with his dad and he's got loads of lovin'! Plus he isn't starved for anything! When we first saw him we all thought he was a girl and was pregnant! MOL. He's lost some weight but still has a pooch hanging and bouncing around. Mom does talk to him. It's kind of funny to watch, he's in love with her now and she's like "I'm not petting you Ivan, quit it. I'm not touching you! Leave me alone. I don't taste that good!" MOL. You know mom's a big mush ball so it's tough for her to resist. Oh and I forgot to mention that he's a tuxie!!!

oh nose Lacey. We're going to keep our paws crossed and purr for you and Finney and your family that the bad arsonist is caught. We don't want anything to happen to any of you. Could you get one of those cheap cardboard carriers just so you have a second one on hand in case of emergencies? They don't hold up well for long term use but they are usually only like 5$ to get. Does cousin Midnight have a carrier too? If, God forbid, anything bad does happen we want everyone in your house to be safe.

Hi Moe Moe! Yup, Middy has her own carrier and luckily it's right downstairs in her room already with her so it wouldn't take much to put her in if needed. Gosh we really hate even thinking about this!

BTW Simone thank you for the Meezer purrs for cousin Midnight and for mommy! They worked wonderful! MRAT! MOL

We hate thinking about anything scary happening to you guys to, or any of our Catster friends. Like we said though, if God forbid, anything bad did happen we do want you all to make out safe and sound. Possessions can all be replaced no matter how heart breaking it is, mommies, grandparents, cousins, and Laceys and Finneys cannot be, and its very important to us that you all stay around with us for a long long time!

Agreed Moe Moe. It would stink to lose everything like pictures and stuff but in the long run, what good are those things if we're not here to enjoy them? Mom has hearing like a bat! So anytime she hears something unusual she checks.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble.... does anyone have a carrier big enough to fit granny and grampy? Eh, I mean, escape plans just in case?

Hope they get that arsonist soon. Those old carriers are really bulky and impossible to carry. We still have a kennel cab from the boys.

When Mom started to realize that I was going to end up going to the vet more often, she took the plunge and bought a Sherpa bag for us girls. She hadn't measured me yet, so she was purraying when she bought it. Her budget said "Small". She said no way and popped for "Medium". I just make it--no elbow room and no room to stand up either. Maybe I'll get "Large" someday....sigh. At least Mom can carry it. She never thought about carrying me and Samsara together.

Now as to Ivan the Terrbile--your poor Mom. That's got to be hard--one moment's inattention ... Can't the neighbors keep him indoors before someone really gets hurt?

April 16th 2011 at 8:13 am

MOL! That would be pretty funny to see grampy and grampy in a carrier. Where did your mom get the Sherpa bag Colette? I'll bet it was expensive. The kind that Hunter's mom got him was something called a Sturdi carrier or something like that but it actually comes in a giant size that can fit 2 kitties in it. How on earth could my mommy lift that? Finney alone weighs 15 lbs. and I'm 10 lbs. Mom is strong but come on! Not weight that's sloshing all over the place.

Mom asked him to keep Ivan inside when she first met him and he said they tried that but he claws at the windows constantly and yowls to go out. He's a roamer and loves to socialize! Sigh. I think she's gonna have to try the spray bottle which she just used on me last week! Grrrr. I have been tearing up the inside of her couch for some time now and I ripped a giant hole in the bottom. Plus I was eating the stuffing! That's what really concerned mom so she started squirting me. She felt really bad too. Big time. Now she's gonna have to use it on Finney cause he ripped her new curtains but the problem there is he likes it, MOL.

If you're thinking about popping for the carrier, if you can afford it, may as well go for one with wheels on it. Yeah, Lacey, the Sherpa bag is not cheap. That medium was $75 two years ago. The large was over $100. (No wheels.) We got our bag at Petco.

Now as to 25 pounds sloshing around, we're not too far away. I'm 11 lbs and Samsara just is under 10. Mom weighs in at about 100, give or take a couple of pounds. She used to be a lot stronger, but then again who wasn't? Even so, it's the moving weight that counts. Keshy used to throw herself around the bag and elbow Mom in the gut. Kind of turns a 5 lb kitty into 20 lbs anyway. Mom would always come home from carrying Keshy complaining that her shoulder hurt.

She was beside herself the day that she put Kesh and Samsara into the same bag to take them to the vet. There was elbow room and Samsara used it--she took her doggy sweater off. The whole bag was doing a dance on Mom's shoulder.

Now Lacey, l'il innocent you taking the sofa apart? I'm aghast...I don't believe it. And Finny the drapes? Must have been gremlins. You two would NEVER do such a thing! MOL!

(BTW--the squirt bottle has absolutely no effect on me either. It feels kind of know, like when the faucet in the bathtub drips and I get my little 'keppy' [yiddish diminutive for head] all nice and soggy.)

I think this is the one you mean right? WOWSA! Expensive is right.

There's another one it's not on wheels though but still looks good and less expensive: ca rrier2. Obviously the rolling one is better but YIKES!

Can you believe mommy? Sheesh! It's our perogative to tear up the house if we want to. Oh and we bite the sides of the furniture as well. Chew marks on the corners kitchen table, dress. Finney tried to chew on the sides of Alex's urn and mom had a FIT!!!

Your first link didn't take. Ours has a u-shaped top zip and a zip across the width of the bag that lets down the width-side wall. Mom finds it's easiest to get us in the bag using the top zip. She always found she had to stand the carrier on its width and dump us in when she used the kennel cab. (She thinks that's the hard way to do it.)

Ours has its outside pocket built into the opposite width-side wall. It has hand-carry straps and an adjustable shoulder strap.

The Target Bag looks good. It seems to have enough length on the shoulder straps, and we like the fact that there's less mesh on the bag than we have. (Less drafty in the the winter.)

What's nice about these bags is that they have a "sherpa" curled fleece panel inside the bag that's held in place by velcro so you can take it out and wash it.

Our first impression is that the $49.99 price is really, really good. If you have a store near you that carries the bag I would check it out before ordering. They say up to 20 pounds, but there are no measurements for either the shoulder strap (which isn't adjustable) or the length of the bag. We really are big cats, any way you slice and dice it.

I think they do the measurements from nose tip to the base of the tail. (I'm 15".) I'm about 13" from the top of my head to the floor when I'm standing. If we remember correctly, the medium bag accommodates up to 16" long. Like I said, I just made it.

No comments about prerogatives. Mom would have sent me to the taxidermist if I tried that stuff. (Only joking.) MOL!

Colette that's a really good idea to measure us, mom didn't think of that. Of course she still hasn't figured out how she can do that without us trying to play with the tape measure and moving! MOL.

Thanks Tilly, we still can't figure out why with the police station so close they can't catch this person. Keystone cops I guess!

Wow we just read about that scary fire bug. I sure hope they get (or got) him. Wow we purr he doesn't harm you and your fmaily. We got three huge dog carrier so we can fit two at a time in one.
I was kinda like Ivan even to mom when she first adopted me and she learned it was most likey cause of the abuse I received in my life before her. I wanted the luvin but something in my brain would "freak out" when I remembered humans hurt kitties. I finally leanred I would never get hurt again and I stopped but I was old when I calmed down.
