How to Name Your Cat

The problem with picking a name for your new cat is there are too many great names to choose from! Use some of these great tips to help you narrow down your selection process, and don’t be shy in asking your friend’s opinions.

  • Follow your passions. The world of geek-related names is vast, but nerds come in all types. Some are passionate about science, a TV show, or a game. Pinpoint your favorite interests as a starting point to finding an excellent name for your cat.
  • Say it out loud. Your cat companion will spend a lot of time with you, so you’ll say their name a lot. Long, wordy names can get tiresome over time, so it’s best to pick a simple and easy name. If you want a long name, consider the nickname potential.
  • Commit. Many people will try to tell you “when you know, you know” when finding the perfect name. However, that’s not always true. You may never feel like you’ve found “the one” when name searching. Pick a name you like and stick to it.

Final Thoughts

The good thing about naming a cat compared to a dog is that cats don’t care much for their name anyway! A dog needs a name to begin its house training; meanwhile, a cat may never respond to their name.

Take your time in picking out a great name for your new cat. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself for the “perfect” name. Your cat will be equally accepting whether their name is “stinky butt” or “cutie pie.”
