We lost our precious Romeo to FIP on Dec. 23, 2008. We knew we wanted another kitten some day, but were too heartbroken to even consider it right away.
My darling neighbor Liz called me @ work about a month after we lost Romy. She said that a small kitten had crawled out of the bushes @ her Mom's house & she wondered if we wanted it.
We were so scared! We had just lost the perfect cat & didn't know if we were ready to love another quite so soon. Then Liz told me that the kitten appeared on Saturday, Jan 24...my birthday!
The wonderful people on the FIP forum told me that Romeo would send us another kitty to love when the time was right. Did he ever!!!! She is a tabby like him & she is everything we ever wanted in a cat.
When we first got her, she needed immediate surgery because she had been thrown out of a car & her lip was split & hanging off her face. She came through surgery like a trooper & you can't even tell that she had that trauma.
She is VERY affectionate, great w/ the dogs, smart, athletic & a fabulous addition to our family.
We are incredibly blessed...

On Friday, June 12 I gave birth to 5 darling babies. My Mom was going through Major Anxiety imagining all the things that could go wrong w/ labor & birthing. To spare her making a fool out of herself w/ all her surgical supplies, baby bottles, cup of coffee, lifeline to the vet & all, I decided to trick her.
She had read that I would stop eating when I was going to go into labor, but I didn't. I jumped up & ate right before she went to bed, then when I knew she was good & asleep, I pushed out all 5 kittens w/ in a two hr period.
I was cleaning my still wet babies when Nick (our big human brother) came in to check on me. He yelled upstairs for Mom & she & Dad came crashing down the stairs to see for themselves.
True enough, I had it handled. I had everyone snuggled up nursing contently & I was calm, cool & collected. Not Mom though...even though it was VERY late, she text messaged everyone, wouldn't stop talking to me, & got on the computer to see if I had done it right. She even let the neighbor come over gaze at us all.
I'm a young mommy so that's part of what worried my Mom, even the vet told her that I would be fine. My Mom doesn't always listen though. She was SURE I would need her to help pull out stuck babies, deliver the placenta, cut the cords, rub unresponsive babies etc. Sigh...she needs a hobby.
Although it was pretty cool that she was spoon feeding me while I was nursing my new babies. I really was tired & my Mom says every new mom deserves breakfast in bed.
I made her look pretty silly though by being so self-sufficient. I am a GREAT mommy! I am constantly feeding them (and boy does my figure show it!), I keep them super clean & I am patient when they all start screaming & fighting w/ each other for prime real estate on my tummy. Who knew that newborn kittens could be so vocal & violent?
Mom & Dad say that I'm going in for surgery in 3 more weeks & that the babies are staying w/ me until they are 10 weeks old.
I don't know how I'm going to handle them leaving, I'm certain my Mom will have done hours of research by then to see what to expect. There will probably be a post or two on the forums...I don't know why she has to embarrass me so much!
