Mom is at work today and has a chance to write in my diary for me. We are currently without phone and internet at home because of a problem with our phone line. For a while, our service was on and off and now it is gone entirely. The repairman is coming on Saturday so hopefully we will be back .....but just in case......two things...maybe three...
They are finished working on the house. No more banging and it looks really nice and is toasty warm too.
Thank you for the gifts and comments yesterday when I was a diary pick. Mom was mad that she missed it.
In case we do not get back right away.... we send you all our best wishes for a very Merry Christmas!
Hope to talk to you all again soon....

Chickens! I live in a house full of chickens!
Everybody is hiding out this morning, except me. I want to know what is going on. The doorbell rang this morning and everybody scattered. It was the guys coming to do the insulation in the house. We are getting blown-in insulation and new siding on part of our house after we had the damage from the hurricane. The guys are drilling holes in the side of the house and Mom says it sounds like they are going to come right through the walls. I am keeping pace with them and moving to wherever they are drilling. I sit and stare at the wall. Rusty is just calming laying in his bed and taking it all in. The others are hiding upstairs under beds. Chickens!

Mom got to meet the new kit on the block today. The woman down the street from us who helps feed the ferals and takes them to be spayed is his Mommy. She had brought in a litter from a semi-feral cat (We believe that she is the sister to Ivan and Percy's Mom) She found homes for the kittens in the litter and took the Mom to be spayed. Well, one of the families decided that "they didn't really want a cat, they would rather a dog", so they gave him back. (I give them points for not just putting him out on the street). So our neighbor took him in. She never had a housecat before and she was very nervous, but she is doing great with him. She named him Simba and he loves to nap on her when he is not zooming around the house. He is 3 months old and has the furriest ears I have ever seen. He is orange and white and looks very similar to our Roni. She got to pet him. What a cutie pie.
Mom took over a fleece slumber ball that we have but never used and some toys. Even some kitten toys that we have outgrown. Although it was funny, Mom was digging in our toybox and was pulling stuff out and then we decided that we liked some of the things. Mom does rotate our toys, but obviously not often enough! MOL!
Mom cat went to the vet to be spayed and she is boarding her for right now, till the kitten gets adjusted to the house. It is her goal to bring the Mom-cat (Tangie) home to live with them too. She doesn't know if it will all work out but she is willing to try hard to make it work.
We purr that Tangie will stay inside and get along with her son.

Old Mama Cat Lady went to her cupboard
to fetch her poor kitties some squishies
And when she got there
The cupboard was bare
And so the poor kitties had none!
She went to the bakers
to buy us some breads
but when she came back
we stood on our heads
She went to the market
To buy us some fish
but when she got back
we had hidden our dish
She went to the seaport
To get us a whale
But when she came back
We were reading her mail
She went to the distributor
To get us some brews
When she came back
We were watching the news
Okay...you get the message. Today Mom went in our cupboard to get us breakfast and there were only two big cans left and a few small cans of Fancy Feast. We usually have an extra box that we keep big cans in and that was empty too. Things have been crazy busy and Mom didn't get to the grocery store last week. Tonight she has a meeting and then has to go for Grammy's groceries. On her way back, she promises to replenish our stock.
Does this ever happen at your house? Or is my mommy being derelict in her duties to us? Hmmmm She better shape up! MOL!

Well the results are in. We went to our polling place (the scratching pole, that is)
We had a mini election at our house and here are the results. Some are just as the analysts predicted and others were quite surprising.
King of the Castle (okay, so kings aren't elected, but still, stay with me here....) Rusty
Queen and Matriarch of the Cat House --- Mrs M
Speaker of the House --- Ivan (you should here him yammer in the background when Mom is on the phone)
Sheriff --- Skylar (in PA a sheriff is elected, not appointed)
Auditor General --- Maedia (She sees all and knows all and keeps us all in line!)
Attorney General--- Skittles (she can have an argument for everything)
Treasurer --- Roni non nonsense, frugal and can keep to a budget
Court Jester --- Percy he had the most humorous ads!
Secretary of the Exterior --- Daisy (for her running commentary on the nature outside of our kitchen window)

Things were going pretty well last night. Our lights flickered a few times and we shut down the computer and started to get ready for bed. And then Bingo...the lights went out. We got out our flashlights and battery candles and got ready for bed. But who could sleep? The wind was howling, the house was shaking? We could hear sirens at times in the distance. Mom was on the bed with me, Rusty, Ivan and Skittles, sometimes she would start to doze and a gust of wind would wake her up.
Around 1:30 this morning, there was a huge banging noise. It was pouring rain and the wind was gusting. Mom thought it was the porch chairs. They are very heavy and protected by the porch so Mom had not brought them in. The Moms got up and dressed and went to bring the chairs into the back porch. But they found that it was not the chairs. It was aluminum siding being stripped away from our house and blown towards our neighbors house and our back yard. Big 8- 10 foot sections, just peeling away. It was frightening. Mom was able to gather most of the siding that had already fallen. She was afraid it would be picked up by the wind and smash a window on our house or the neighbors. Other Mom was holding the flashlight and watching that no loose pieces were going to break free and hit Mom. Mom also realized that the wind had ripped the siding from the house where we have an outdoor electrical outlet. There was the outlet and the siding dangling from the house. Our power was out so it wasn't an issue, but Mom was worried what would happen when the power was turned back on. When she came in, she went down the basement and turned off our main. She was hoping to disconnect the outlet in the morning and just cap the loose wires and pull them back into the house till we could get it repaired.
The power was still not on this morning. Alot of our city was without, except the block right next to us. They must be on another line. Mom heard repair trucks around 11AM and she waved the one man over. He looked at our outlet and said to leave it connected. There are no bare wires and the assembly is waterproof. It should not cause a problem.
Our power came back on and now we have light and heat. It was getting very chilly in our house. It is only 41 outside today and still rainy and windy (but not as strong as last night)
Mom was terrified during the night and can't imagine what it was like for those even closer to the storm. We saw the images today on the news and are so saddened at the tremendous losses that people have realized. We purr for all who have been impacted by Sandy.
Has anyone heard from Kaci, Orange Ruffy or Toki? We hope they are ok.

The results are in........
We have come to many conclusions.....
First, the blood test results are in. Dr. B called on Tuesday night and said that my blood work is perfect. He worries about my hemoglobin count, but it was in the normal range again. So all is good.
Second, the results of who broke the glass in the kitchen today. This is a tie. It may have been Daisy or Roni and maybe, just maybe, it was me. But you have to understand. Mom had apples on the counter and there were fruit flies. Whoever, and I am not admitting to anything, whoever broke the glass was only trying to help Mom get rid of the pesky fruit flies. Mom checked all of our paws and we are fine. No cuts.
Third the results are in......and it is u-nan-i-mouse! We want the heat on. It sure is chilly at night.
Fourth the results are in....Mom got a postcard from our local vet that it is time for check-ups and shots. We took a vote and Skittles and Murphy are going!
That's it for now. See you soon. Hugs,

Well, yesterday was my big day out. We got up early, had breakfast and were in the car by 9AM. We stopped at the bank and then we were on our way. I stayed in my carrier for the first half hour and then banged on the door to get out. Don't they realize, you can't see anything from down there. I sat on Mom-Mom's lap and watched everything. We saw farms and pretty trees and firetrucks and a train. The train was cool, whizzing by on the tracks.
When we got to the vet, i went back in my carrier and we went in for my appointment. The doctor wasn't ready yet but they let us wait in an exam room instead of in the waiting room which was nice because there were some really big dogs there.
Doc B came in to see and give me a bit of an exam and then they took me for bloodwork and ultrasound. They couldn't clean my teeth, but Doc B is very confident that they can safely do it here. He even talked with an anesthesiologist to see what they would recommend. He will be talking with my vet and giving her the dosages and meds. The Moms went to the diner right down the street and I was ready before they were back. Doc B brought me back down to the room and I was happy to see them. Doc was real nice and thought I looked very handsome in my bowtie! He loved it! He was very pleased with my ultrasound and said that everything looks good. He will have my bloodwork results on Monday and will give Mom a call to go over them. I don't have to go back for long time, or if I start having problems.
We went back to the car and I sat in my carrier for a while. We stopped at a dairy on the way back for ice cream. I waited patiently in the car for my vanilla cone (but it never came). Mom did give me some bacon from the diner though! (Don't tell my cardiologist!) We were home by 4:30 and I had something to eat, took a good pee and went to sleep in my carrier!
I'll let you all know how my blood results are when we here anything.

Mom took Rusty and I to the church parking lot to receive our blessing from the priest. There was only one other cat there besides us, and there were lots and lots of dogs.
Today is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi. He is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment. He is also thought to have created the first manger scene (which of course included animals)!
Here is the Franciscan Blessing of Animals
Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures.
You inspired St. Francis to call all animals his brothers and sisters.
We ask you to bless this animal.
By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan.
May we praise you for all beauty in creation.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen
No matter who guides your spirit, perhaps today, be thankful that some higher power was so gracious to grant us our furry (and not so furry) brothers and sisters, our babies and our best friends! Someone sure knew what they were doing, making such magnificent creatures to walk the earth beside us.
