A Little Bit of History....
The lyrics to this beautiful song were written by Katharine Lee Bates (1859-1929) an instructor at Wellesley College, Massachusetts, after an inspiring trip to the top of Pikes Peak, Colorado, in 1893. Her poem, America the Beautiful first appeared in print in The Congregationalist, a weekly journal, on July 4, 1895. Ms. Bates revised the lyrics in 1904 and again in 1913. In addition to those changes in the words, it is notable that the poem was not always sung to the tune presented on this website ("Materna," composed by Samuel A. Ward in 1882, nearly a decade before the poem was written). In fact, for two years after it was written it was sung to just about any popular or folk tune that would fit with the lyrics, with "Auld Lang Syne" being the most notable of those. The words were not published together with "Materna" until 1910, and even after that time, the tune to be used was challenged to some degree. For example, in 1926 the National Federation of Music Clubs held a contest to put the poem to new, reportedly "less somber," music, but no other entry was determined to be more acceptable. Before her death in 1929, Ms. Bates never indicated publicly which music she liked best, but it now appears likely that America the Beautiful will forever be associated with "Materna."

Mini Me!?!?...

OMWhiskers!
Mommy saw an elderly lady pull up across the street earlier to chat with some other ladies whom lived there. The lady whom pulle dup was holding a tiny kittien in her arms, that looked like me!
Well, mommy came back into the house, and to her surprise , she heard a kitten MEOWing it`s little head off. She looked out the window, and there was the little kitten, all by itself! The lady had driven off & LEFT it there!!!!
Now our road we live on is quite busy for a side street, and not too many people there are allowed to have pets. So dad told mom to go get it! they were gonna try to find a home for it, but no one wants it...
it is so lovable! they fed it, groomed it (bathed ALL of us, including the kitten)...it was full of fleas.
it is playful too!
freddie & the kitten growled & hissed at each other. Spitty was too humiliated from his bath to come look at it. ME? It looks like me when i was a baby! I LIKE IT! til it shook water off onto me, mol...

Three kitties sharing the same Birthday, mol, WOW!!! Also it is father`s day & the first Day of Summer! (the longest day of teh year!!!)!!!

Zealies Mystery Solved!!!...

Spitty played a game in the Friends of the Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary yesterday! Mom received an email sayin he was 1 of 3 lucky winners of 10 zealies!
I highly recommend all furs to join this group, and support all the furs whom aren`t as fortunate as we are to have eyesight...they can see more than we think...

WHO DONE IT?

mol, I was chatting with a furiend today, and we were talking about zealies...
I just finished tellin her that we had ZERO left in our account until March 2nd, when all of a sudden , on my account page, 10 zealies magically appeared! hehehehe!
I asked my furiend if her mom transfurred them to us, but her mom said "No"...
so....now the big question is: Who is the sweet kitty "WHO DONE IT?"...heheheee!!!!
If no one fesses up, we may be forced to hire Ace Ventura, mol....

Valentine`s Dance...

last night was my 2nd date with my handsome Jackson...
It was so romantic! It was the Valentine`s Dance at Club Spin! Efurrything was so PURRfect! I had to leave at 10 pm tho because mom was tired & had to get up early again today...

My First Date!

My very first date ever was tonight! I went dancing with my Valentine Jackson! We had so much fun!
He walked me home afterwards!!!!! ...*giggles*

That didn`t take long , mol...
I just got a pmail from a handsome kitty named Jackson!
He neede a Valentine to so I accepted! I am so excited! he`s a cutie-pie!...*giggles*
Mom is gonna put a pic of him on my page too! I`m so thrilled! *teehee!

Hmmmm...

Today I received a "Lips" rosette from an anonymous kitty...
I wonder whom it could be? I really don`t get around much, like Freddie & Spitty do...
Guess I`ll just have to wait & see...hopefully it`s my prince charming! *purrs*...*sigh*

My New Car!!!!

I just LOVE my new car!!!! I took Freddie & Spitfire for a ride in it, MOL!!!!!! You can see their reactions in the pic! MOL!!!!!!!!!!!

I`ve Been Tagged!

I`ve been "Tagged" by my furriend Wyatt James! I think that is a cool name for such a beautiful angel (ya just gotta see his pic!) & read his diary....bless you Wyatt! May you Rest in Peace...

1. I was my mom`s first kitty when she moved to her present residence.
2. My favorite toy is a simple plastic milk jug ring. Nothin` fancy for me. They are easily disposable & you can find them just about any store!
3. I love sleeping with my human brother at night. Mostly down by his feet.
4. I love it when Freddie & Spitfire are asleep... me & my mom can spend "quality" time together!
5. I "Squeak" instead of "meow"...mol...it almost sounds as if I`m saying "Eat!".
6. I love my food & water fresh! (Especially after Freddie & Spitfire have had their noses in it, MOL!)!
7. I LOVE CATNIP! (and getting my picture taken!)...

Wondurrful Day!

Well, as usual, Spitfire & Freddie played ALL morning. They finally fell asleep afturr lunch and I was able to spend quality time with mom. Pawlling around with her, acting cute, talking with her. She even gave me a couple exturra POUNCE treats!
I saw hurr come up furrom the basement carrier the cat carriurr...
She looked at me and said, "It`s okay Purrscilla, it`s Spitfire`s turrn to go to the vet!"
(Of course I knew that already).
So I went ovurr and sniffed the carriurr, watched mom clean it...I can`t wait to see Spitfire in it! hehehehehe......to be continued.....

New Furriends...

Wow! I have made so many new furriends today! My mom has said a lot of nice things about me, and I am so cute! So...I gotta be on my best behavior! Maybe mom will take some more cute pix of me to post for the site...

The Phone Call...

hehehe! I know why Mom is makin that phone call to the vet on Monday! Spitfire has to get his shots, then more appointments to get...uhhmmm..."fixed" and declawed! Just like Freddie & myself! teehee! I`m just gonna sit back and watch...and wait! "It`s good to be the Queen!"...to be continued...
