Arrival Story:
I lost my other kitty Noemi to cancer in 9/07, she was 12yrs old. I vowed to get no more cats. I had another cat in the household, but he is squarely my husband's cat. By the summer of 2008 I missed having a kitty and started my search. I knew it would be a stray as all of my prior kitties were strays. I have no preference for breeds or look, but she would have to just be sweet and speak to me spiritually. After months of searching, I visited the animal care and control center in Manhattan NY. I saw many kitties and one wanted my attention in the worst way! However, I was constantly drawn to one sitting away to the back of her cage quietly. I asked to see her and when I took her out she looked like a shaggy wet carpet. But she was sooo sweet and laid on me like we knew each other. She was found wandering in the Bronx the day before and had just moved from the Bronx 1 month before. I immediately made up my mind. I was not prepared to take home a kitty that day, so I told the staff I would be back in one day to get her. I purchased all necessary stuff, left work early and started my journey to get my new baby. Needless to say, I did not realize it was the annual Puerto Rican Day parade in new York City and all traffic was cut off to the area of the shelter. It was almost 100 degrees that day and I had a tons of bags and a carrier to log around. I walked for blocks knowing that they closed adoptions at 7pm. I arrived at 7pm (no kidding!), and they would not let me take her. I gave my best arguments (I'm an attorney), then resorted to appeals to their pity (I'm a cat lover). They eventually allowed to go get her. Then I was told she was gone. I almost cried. I pled to go back and look for myself and when I did, there she was in the back of her cage. Waiting for me... I finished the paper work, waited for my husband and we took her to her new home. Since then she has turned out to be the perfect addition to our family. She is submissive enough to get along with our dominant male kitty and maintains her absolute sweetness even when they "fight". Her colors have since come in quite nicely and she is fluffy and pretty. I love her so much already! I fought so hard for her that day, and she has repaid me with sweetness since then.

Bio:
I never thought about what her breed was until recently. Now I know from research she is a Maine Coon. She is already soooo huge. She has all the traits of a Coon. if she is mixed with something else (most likely), she is true to the Maine Coon breed. My main concern for her is that she is super nosy :). If I am looking for something, shes right there helping me look. Even to the point of falling into and off of things! She is extremely playful and has a fav toy that she can play with for hours at a time. She hates having a collar, and when we put it on her, she takes it off and hides it. Fortunately for us, she hides it in the same spot every time! She is not a "lap" cat, but is very affectionate. Noemi could lay in my arms for as long as I wanted, but kelty can only take so much... Shes too heavy anyway. Shes 1 year and already weighs over 8lbs. All in all, she is a wonderful companion!
