Park Life

On Sunday, my mum & dad took be for a walk in the park. They didn’t want to let me out on my own because they don’t have a garden and there are a lot of ‘lost cat’ posters stuck on trees in the area, but they also wanted me to enjoy the great outdoors.

They live about 7 minutes walk from a park, so they took me there in my cat box, found a nice, quiet spot shaded by trees, took me out and put me on a lead (one of those extendable fabric ones). I loved it! I explored the long grass, sniffed around the hollows of trees (tried to climb them too, although mum and dad didn’t let me climb all the way up). A few dogs went past, but none of them bothered me. They’re going to try and take me to the park at least three times a week now.

Grumpy Cat

My dad took me to the vet to get my shots done yesterday. This was the first time I was being taken out in my carrier, so he was worried that I’d throw a strop or poo in transit, but everything was fine….at first.

I was quite happy travelling on the bus in my carrier. The vet’s waiting room was full of dogs, but that didn’t bother me either. The vet had a look at me, gave me a cat treat….then stuck a really sharp needle in me. When it came time for the next shot, she tried to distract me with a cat treat again, but I wasn’t going to let her fool me a second time. I arched my back, hissed, scratched and struggled. “My,” said the vet “you’re a grumpy little cat today, aren’t you?” Eventually, she got my dad to hold me still and put a towel over my head before she could give me the second shot.

When I got home, I curled up in my basket and sulked all afternoon.

Meow!

Meow, my name’s Jinx.

I moved in with my mum and dad at the beginning of March 2008. A friend of my dad knew someone whose cat had had kittens and wanted to find good homes for them. He surprised mum when she came home from work (he knew she wanted a cat). They both fell in love with me straight away, even though I hadn’t been litter-trained (I did a poo behind the sofa on the second day), but it didn’t take long for me to learn. First time they showed me the litter tray I thought it was some kind of sandpit and started rolling around in it.

I love to play and see everything and everyone as a toy – including my parents. I like to use them as climbing frames, though they don’t like it much, because of my sharp claws. For the first couple of months, my mum had scratches all over her arms from me, so much so that she had to convince her work colleagues that she wasn’t a self-harmer (the fact that she’s a bit goth-looking didn’t help – still, at least it doesn’t show when I shed black hairs on her clothes). I love my mum though – I even follow her when she goes to the loo. When she has a bath I perch on the side – I’ve already fallen in twice. I didn’t like that much, though my fur was really shiny once it had dried off.
