Arrival Story:
I caught a cat! I had been wanting a kitty for a few years, but I kept putting it off because I am so allergic and because my apartment complex did not allow kittens under 1 year old. Due to my allergies I wanted 2 kittens that I could bath when they were young, so they would get used to it as part of a routine. I came home from a volleyball game late one evening and saw an orange kitty running across the parking lot. I started talking to it and it kept meowing back. It would come near me, meow, then run away...and then back again. I kept talking to it and it started walking down this gravel path, looking back at me...so I followed it of course! I spent a good hour and a half sitting on the path trying to coax the kitty to me. It would come over and let me pet it, but one wrong move and he would run off for a few minutes. We played this game for a while. He was so skinny that I could see his hip bones! My boyfriend came out looking for me with a flash light, knowing I should have been home a while back. I sent him back to the apartment for tuna, a box, and a sheet. In hopes of catching it, we set a trap! Unfortunately, the kitty was too quick and smart for us. After quite a few fire ant bites, we gave up, but left some tuna on a rock for the kitty. We went upstairs to the apartment and I went to take the box onto the balcony (which overlooks the parking lot and the path where we left the tuna). I shined the flash light at the kitty and saw the reflection of his eyes as he ate the tuna. I started talking to him from the balcony and he started meowing back! He made his way along the path, across the parking lot, and under my balcony. So, I went downstairs and the kitty met me at the bottom of the stairs. I got the rest of the tuna and baited him up the stairs and into the apartment. He made it into the apartment a couple times, but I couldn't get to the door to close him in in enough time. I finally gave up officially and went to bed around 1am. The next day, during my lunch break I went to the local pet store and bought the kitty essentials, suspecting the cat would be back that night knowing where it could get some food. That night I got home around 9:30pm and guess who was waiting at the bottom of the stairs! I baited him up the stairs once again with the cat food I bought. He came all the way into the apartment and SLAM, "I caught a cat!" That is what I announced to my boyfriend, who thought I didn't stand a chance in catching the cat. And that is how I caught 'Beans'!
