Arrival Story:
When Lil' Bear was a tiny kitten he belonged to a young girl, age unknown. One day her father brought him to the shelter to drop him off, saying that it was his daughters kitten and they no longer wanted him. He was told that the shelter had no more room, so even though the kitten was healthy they would have to put him to sleep if he was left. The man didn't care and left anyway. One of the animal control officers named Ryan, who Crystal was seeing at the time, stepped in and saved the kittens life; taking him home to foster him until a home could be found. Crystal decided to name the kitten Lil' Bear after a bear in one of her favorite bedtime stories from when she was a child, because she thought he looked like a small fuzzy bear cub. While trying to find a home for Lil' Bear, Crystal's mom fell in love with him and decided to adopt him. Bear then had a brand new family. He had his Mommy and Daddy, came to know Crystal as his "Sissy", and even had Carl as "Brother." He also had the dog Sassy as a sibling, and Sissy's cat Luna as his niece. After being so close to losing his life, being rescued and moving around, Lil' Bear was finally home.

Lil' Bear got his Angel wings and crossed the Rainbow bridge on Saturday, March 1st, 2008. He was 5 years old. Over the weeks prior to that day, Bear began showing signs of being sick. We assumed he had something like a stomach bug because he slowly stopped eating his food and treats. He lost weight fast - a total of 6 pounds. The vet did some tests and discovered that Bears' kidneys were starting to fail. This took place on February 25th......Bears' 5th birthday. After several days of treatment in hospital care Bear's blood levels seemed to be improving. However, by Saturday the treatments had stopped working. Since there was no longer any chance at recovery the family decided it was best to let him be put to sleep, to keep him from suffering since no treatment or cure was possible. With the love and comfort of his family next to him, he slipped peacefully into sleep that morning. We will always miss and love him. Rest Well Baby Bear. Your in our hearts forever.
