Arrival Story:
A friend of mine had been feeding and neutering stray cats in her back yard. One of the cats she fed was pregnant and gave birth to a litter of 7. On a cold night, the babies were crying, and my friend found two of them near her door. She couldn't find the others, but she took the two into the house to keep them warm. The mother hadn't been feeding these two, so they were starving and malnourished, but she hung around to keep an eye on them. I happened to be over at my friend's house one day and she said to me, "Ooh I have something to show you!" She took me to her bedroom, where there were the two tiniest little wobbly bundles of cuteness you can imagine. She bullied me (she had to work soooo hard at it, too) into taking one home. I wasn't going to, because I've just moved and I have three kids already, but I just couldn't resist the little PooDooFace. She definitely chose me - my friend said she'd never seen her interact with anyone else the way she did with me. Sold! A few weeks later, the mother cat returned the rest of the litter to the yard and continued to feed the other babies.

Hera was about 4 weeks old when her mother gave her up for adoption. She was too young to be weaned to food, so I bottlefed her. She wasn't very good at suckling for some reason, so I ended up pouring formula into my hand til she graduated to a saucer. Because she was weaned so young from her mother, she truly thinks I am Mom. She loves to nurse on my fleecy sweaters. She is very bullheaded, persistent, determined, fearless and jealous - so her name is quite apt, I feel! This cat has a LOT to say! Especially if there are cats outside - she yowls and howls and whines. When she meows, she sort of sticks out her tongue, so every time she makes a noise it sends me into a fit of giggles. This wee little one wormed her way into my heart SO FAST, I can't even remember how life was before she chose me.
