I was looking at the classified ads for cats and came across "WHITE CAT w/odd eyes, 2 yrs, shorthair, neutered, affectionate. $35 Animal Orphanage 871-8331" I had never heard of Animal Orphanage, but had always wanted an odd eyed white cat. I made the call and talked with Leveda who was the Executive Director of the organization. I made arrangements for my Husband and I to meet the cat. He was living at Leveda's house. I found out that Casper was one of a litter of kittens that had been found and surrendered to Animal Orphanage 2 years before. Casper was adopted by a young woman who kept him for 2 years and then returned him to the shelter because she was moving. Where might she be moving that she couldn't take her cat, Saudi Arabia? Nope, just to the other side of town to live with her boyfriend. I get it. The boyfriend didn't want her to have a cat. It never ceases to amaze me how many cats lose their homes because of some guy who must control everything and how many women let them get away with it. Oh well, her loss. If the truth were known, she might have been better off keeping the cat and dumping the man. We liked Casper, so I filled out an application to adopt him. She asked for references and told me she would check the references and get back to me. First time I'd ever had an animal shelter do that and I thought it was great. She called a few days later and said to come get my cat. Casper became part of our family on June 19, 1992.
Bio:
Update 3/20/08 Casper was put to sleep this morning following a short battle with liver disease. He lived a long healthy life. Though we will miss him, this makes his death more acceptable.
