Arrival Story: July 4th, 2000.
Caroline, my favorite person, was grilling for the family - her "Chicken Ceasar Tenders", when she heard all sorts of plaintitive meowing coming from the bushes between her family home and the neighbors. After trying to see who it was for almost an hour, she finally caught a glimpse of something black, (ME!) before I disappeared with speed that was amazing. But within a few minutes, she heard me crying again. She had a discussion with my soon to be grandparents on whether or not they were going to keep me (as if there really was a question!!), as at the time they already had 4 cats as well as the dogs Clyde and Tillie. They knew full well that once they fed me, I would be staying unless someone came to claim me. Having made the decision, they took a full can of friskie's cat food to put out on the driveway and walked back to the patio. After about 15 minutes of indecision by this black furry creature - aka - Me - I finally made it to the food, which I gobbled in less than 30 seconds and then disappeared again. I was STARVING!! Thankfully they put out a second helping of food. Again, it took some time, but evenutally when I got to it, it was also gone in less than 30 seconds. (You have to understand, I was also terrified of people - I didn't have the best experience with them before.) They decided to not overwhelm my tummy, so I had to wait until the next day to get some more food. It went on like that for 2 weeks, until I finally allowed them to get close enough to pet me. With time, I realized that they were good people and have become a full member of the family - and I'm fantastically affectionate. Although, even 6 years after I found them, I am still completely terrified of plastic bags. They think I may have been stuffed in one when I was apparently dumped in the park down the street. I still do not like strangers coming up to me, unless one of them is protecting/holding me. The vet thought that I was less than a year old. They notified the police and the humane society to find out if anyone was missing a georgous black cat, but no-one contacted them, thank goodness. So, they are mine! I love all of them, but Caroline is my personal human. Then again, she's the one to go to in order to be completely spoiled. :D
Bio: I loved Clyde and Tillie. Miss them very much! Would wind my way through their legs, letting them sniff me all over, butting my nose to theirs. When my humans would take them for their evening walk, I would often tag along, demanding to be carried part of the way, of course. The other cats, however, are still not very fond of me - granted, I do tackle them sometimes when no one will let me outside. Since my arrival, 2 of the other cats, Benjamin and Seraphim (ages 22 and 19 respectively) have gone on to heaven, and Fritzie and Harriet (both aged 14) still think of me as a pest. But Harry and I have been known to share Caroline's bed from time to time.
This new creature that Grandmummy got - a pipsqueak named Oliver is very very cute. A little hyper for my taste, but I'm trying to be good. I let him sniff me, I'll even lay down and stretch and let him play with my tail. But I draw the line at having his nose in my face! But I'm very gentle with scolding him - afterall, I do have all my claws, but I keep them retracted when I smack him on his little head. It is really weird to think that this creature, which weighs about 1/7th of my weight is actually a dog! LOL But it is nice that he goes on short walks - so I get to go on my walks with my humans too. :)
