Violet was a neighbor's cat who really didn't care whether they had him or not. He spent a lot of time at our house because he liked our bird feeder. I didn't like seeing him outside in the winter, so he became an inside cat in the winter. I've tried to make Violet an inside cat entirely, but he still loves to go out just for a few minutes each day if the weather is nice. He has never gone back to his original home, and they have never inquired about him. That was several years ago, so he is officially our cat now!
Due to failing kidneys and possibly some type of stomach cancer, Violet made his journey to the bridge on June 25, 2012, in the loving arms of his Mawmee and Daddy.
When I realized where Violet lived, I called and asked why the cat was named Violet if he was a male. The previous owners didn't know when they got the cat that she was a he - and named her Violet. Violet is a very vocal cat. Different cries mean different things. The cry for "I want to go outside" is hilarious - long, drawn out, and so pitiful! If he doesn't get his way, he heads straight for one particular chair to show Mawmee that the claws need sharpening. That is about all it takes for him to go outside. Violet is also a very affectionate cat. He loves to have his face stroked, and likes to knead on your lap. Unlike his sister, Samoa, Violet is loud and walks down the stairs like a herd of elephants! He also likes to play with and groom Calvin. They are so funny to watch. It doesn't take long for a grooming session to turn into a wrestling match!

It took a week for my earthly body's remains to be returned to Mawmee and Daddy. Before I left for the bridge, the vet office had me pawtograph some white spongey stuff. It was a momento to be left with my family. My two pawprints are in a nice leather case and together with my ashes will all be put in a pretty box of some kind like all the other angels in our family.
I've been so busy since I got to the bridge. A lot of our pals have joined me recently, and we had to hurry and get ready for all the festivities yesterday.
It was my first birthday since arriving at the bridge. I became a teenager, and you wouldn't believe the party! The place was painted purple - all the rainbows turned purple for me, there were flags everywhere, and then the big fireworks display!
Those fireworks you all see on earth are started by us cats up here at the bridge. This year the 4th of July committee said I could light the first fuse that started it all.
Thank you to so many cats for all the love you've shown me and my family. While Mawmee and Daddy were so sad that I made my journey, they know that they didn't wait too late or send me too early, and for that reason, they feel at peace with their decision.
I noticed from the bridge a couple of days ago that Samoa got on the counter and licked some lettuce. I'm glad someone is going to take over my bad habits!
Thanks to my many angel and earth friends for making my birthday so special. Let's keep the party going all weekend long!

I'm sorry to have to tell you that I'm going to be riding the purple arch of the rainbow this afternoon. I've fought a good fight, but my body has given out. I decided yesterday that I no longer wanted to eat. All you angel cats know how hard it is to leave our families, but Mawmee and Daddy said that things will only get worse, and they want to spare me from any more pain.
I've had a good life with my family and friends. Who knew that a cat who lived in the woods chasing squirrels and birds would end up in a garage, and then in a house! Who knew that an outdoor cat would finally decide that living indoors was pretty pawsome! Who knew that I would meet the bestest friends in the whole wide world on Catster! Who knew that I would be the inspiration for The Cat in the Clover! I used to love running through the clover when Mawmee would work outside. Who knew that I would move across the country and become a cowboy cat!
I know they are going to miss me around here because I'm the talker of the family. I'm also the alarm clock for breakfast, so I'll have to tell Newman a few tricks to use.
I'll be making my journey at 3:00 this afternoon, so if you could remember me around that time, and say a few purrs that my journey is peaceful, I would appreciate it. I know Calvin will be right there with his Welcome sign, and I'll bet it will be purple! My BFFITWWW will be right next to him holding my heart basket. I can't wait to see her! Mawmee said when I make my journey, I'm going to be wrapped in the purple blanket that Rocky Ann gave me. I also know that I won't be alone because Spunky, Sugar, Rocky, and Autumn will be there to greet me too.
I wish I could stay long enough to celebrate my 13th birthday on July 4th, but you can bet I'll be having a big party with my angel pals, and when you see the fireworks that night, you can think of me.
Thank you for the fun, friendship, and laughter we have shared over the years. I will miss you all. And soon I'll be wearing bright purple wings . . . . . . .

After getting my bloodwork results back on Saturday, the vet lady and Mawmee decided I should have another Convenia shot since my white blood cell count is still elevated.
So, I went back to the vet today. The vet lady I saw on Friday wasn't there today, and the vet lady I saw a couple of weeks ago is on vacation, so I saw another vet lady today.
This vet lady isn't our favorite because she is the one we saw when we first moved here who told Mawmee that because Gleek has FIV, he shouldn't be around other cats.
Mawmee decided that while I was there, she would let them give me fluids because they could get more fluids in me than I will tolerate at home. So, I got my shot, and my fluids.
This vet lady asked if I was eating any special kidney food. The first vet lady said it was more important for me to eat anything. But this vet lady said the kidney food would help my kidneys not to have to work so hard.
They gave us a couple of cans of Royal Canin kidney food, and I really like it! So far, I've eaten two meals of it. We'll see how long that lasts!
This vet lady also said I should get my blood checked in a week, but Mawmee said we aren't made of money, and she is going to wait two weeks because that is how long the Convenia shot lasts. What is the point of doing the bloodwork again in one week? She wants to give the shot a chance to do its thing, and then we'll get it checked again.
It's interesting to see that all these vet ladies have different opinions on kidney issues!
