Arrival Story:
I was at the used book store in Milton, Ontario (Recycled Reading ) and this big cat came rubbing around my ankles. I fell in love with him at first hug. I came to find out that at the original house where he was raised, the people moved and left him outside to fend for himself. The people that moved in heard a noise in the night and found him at the back door, half starved with frostbitten paws. They took him in, but after a while it turned out the man was allergic and the woman became pregnant, so they decided they would try to get him a new home. A friend adopted him (after he was checked out at great expense by the vet) but he did not get along with her cats, and was given back. He was then taken to the vet's and the man talked to the owner of the used book store. She is quite well known for getting good homes for full grown cats and kittens. She took him in and a couple of weeks later, he found me. I went home and told my husband, who asked when I was bringing him home. The following Tuesday, he became a major part of our family. That was January 2004 and he is NOT spoiled, he is just very well loved.

It is with deep sadness that the human parents of Askem, the Wonder Cat, announce that he has passed to the Rainbow Bridge this date, Feb. 5/15. He will be greatly missed by us and his extended family, but could not be let to suffer.

Last Saturday, July 1, was Canada Day and were there ever some loud noises on Saturday night. I was laying peacefully, half asleep, on my kitty couch when these loud bangs started. They scared me and made me jump. Mom held me and said that I was safe they were only firecrackers and not to worry. Finally they stopped and I could resume my relaxation. At least when I'm on my kitty couch nothing can hurt me.

I want to wish all my friends and fellow kitties in the USA happy Independence Day on July 4th. Hope you all have a great 4th of July and a safe one.

Busy Month

Well, April has sure been a busy month for me. I had to spend 5 whole days without my dad because he had to go to the human vet for surgery. Mom told me every day that dad missed me and I would give her kitty kisses to take to him when she went to see him every night. I was so restless and wandered around the house all the time he was gone, I just could not get settled. Then, when he came home, I knew right away there was something wrong with him. He could not bend over and pet me or pick me up. I jumped up on the coffee table so he would not have to bend to pet me and he smiled when he heard me purr. Mom told me lots of times that he will be alright, it will just take a while to heal. He sure looked weird too. He had a long row of shiny things in his front. Mom held me and let me sniff them and she said they were staples and that he had 43 of them, then when they came out she let me sniff again. Dad can pet me when I'm on the counter, but sometimes I forget how sore he is and I headbut him in the chest, but he doesn't get angry because he knows I don't mean to hurt him.
Then today, wonder of all wonders, Dad picked me up and took me to show Mom what he did. Because I'm kinda heavy, he had to take me and put me back on the counter, but he was so proud to be able to hold me, even for a little while. I didn't want to get down, but I knew I had to. While he was holding me, I was kneading my front paws on his arm and I gave him kitty kisses.
Mom told me that when she is out gardening, she's going to put the harness on me and I can go out with her in the backyard. I don't like the harness so I'm either going to have to learn to like it, or stay inside. Hmmmmmm, I wonder just how much I hate that thing.
Mom's best friend from British Columbia is going to visit me while she is in Ontario. She has never met me, has just seen pictures so she said she will come for a visit for a little while. Another human woman who will lose her heart to me. I LOVE IT, conceited feline that I am. I can hardly wait for her visit.
We received an Easter card from the people I lived with before I adopted my forever parents. The card included my name on it. YAHOO!!
Then, in May dad's cousin from Northern Ireland is coming for a visit and she said she will stay with us for a few days. She really makes a fuss over me too.
I'll do another diary if I have any strength left after all these visits to me. Good thing Mom can keep my social calendar straight. MOL
